I don't doubt it was great but what made MMJ's set in 06 so good?
It was an epic performance. Three hours of flat out amazing rock and roll. Andrew Bird joined them on quite a few songs. Some really fun covers..I don't know, I think you just had to be there to experience it, really. I remember at the end of "Dondante" looking around at the crowd and everyone in that tent just had an expression of awe and joy on their faces. The greatest live performance I've seen, hands down. I really questioned whether I'd ever witness something that spectacular again - and so far I haven't...but this year I feel like they'll top it. Should be amazing!

the only thing that really compares is radiohead the next night. two absolute juggernaut performances in back to back nights. two of the top 5 i have ever been apart of.

Haven't yet gotten into MMJ so my immediate reaction is to go to Sigur Ros. Over the next few months I plan to digest a bunch of music, MMJ included. It may become a pretty tough choice from what I've heard.

That MMJ show is my favorite ever, with Radiohead from that year, The Lips from last year, a Daft Punk show, and a Roger Waters show rounding out my top 5 shows ever.
I think Sigur Ros will be epic, but so will MMJ. Which is why this decision would be so hard.
Dear Superfly,
Please let MMJ play Friday night, so I don't have to make this horrible choice.
I really want MMJ to play Friday after Metallica. It'd be perfect! I'd be able to get up close for Pearl Jam and not feel like I have to leave early to get a spot for MMJ, and during Metallica's set, I could just camp out in a spot for MMJ's show.
There's no way I will leave Pearl Jam's show early, and I want to be in the front 'pit' area for it, so I am also hoping for MMJ to play Friday. I they play Saturday after PJ, I'll end up much farther back for MMJ than I would like. I'm going VIP, so I could hope for a seat in the bleachers, but those will probably get filled pretty fast.
Honestly I'd almost cry. Those two are by far the two biggest names on the lineup for me.
Please let MMJ be Friday night!!!!!!!!
Here, here. I can't add much to that, man. Sigur Ros is my headliner this year. And I think a late night Roo crowd will be perfect. Last time I saw MMJ on a Friday was Roo '06. This year could just be like a 4 hour encore!

I with these guys.
MMJ was vicious, beast-rock. My face hurt. And the first, maybe, 2,000 people left Petty early for a good spot. The atmosphere pre-show was absolute magic.
Radiohead the next evening.... I'm not yet able to put into words.

agreed! MMJ's set was the first really memorable one of my first roo and radiohead the next night was absolute magic. the best part is that i'd never listened to either of them before but the vibe in the crowd was just so great that i felt in the groove the whole time... ahh bonnaroooooooooooooooo

I have a solution to my problem!
I'm going to buy scalped tickets to MMJ's Radio City show. That way if they and Sigur Ros conflict, it won't kill me to pick Sigur Ros. And if they don't conflict, I get to see two disgusting shows from MMJ. Both I'm sure will have there share of guest spots.
At roo i will see MMJ if their is a conflict with sigur ros, b/c i am hopefully going to rock werchter for 1 day in belgium this summer, while visitng europe. On July 5th sigur ros, radiohead, ben harper and the innocent criminals, kings of leon, and galactic will perform. More artist on july 5th but these are my fav...
I don't doubt it was great but what made MMJ's set in 06 so good?
Because, as some pointed out already, they are the greatest rock band on the planet. That said I doin't know what I'm going to do if Sigur Ros play at the same time this year. I don't even want to think about it.

Its kind of funny. If you had asked me last week who I would choose, I would have said Sigur Ros hands down. I've wanted to see them for years. However, now, one week later, it is neck and neck. I have fallen in love with MMJ this week. Z, It Still Moves, and Okonokos have been playing nonstop. I can't get enough of it. I just went out and bought the Okonokos DVD this afternoon. Amazing.
Here's what I'm hoping for, let me know if this makes sense.
Friday Late night (12-3am) My Morning Jacket- Which Stage Disco Biscuits This Tent
Saturday Late night Phil Lesh- Which Stage Sigur Ros- This Tent
I've never been to Roo before so I'm not totally sure whether this scenario could work. Let me know because I'm really hoping I dont have to pick between Sigur Ros and MMJ

That would suck. Those are like the 4 bands I want to see the most.

i kind of hope sigur ros gets the which stage. their sound is almost too big for a tent. they need to be like the flaming lips were last year. funny story: when we walked up to get closer for the lips last year there was this guy passed out leaning against the beer stand with a full beer in hand and a puddle in his lap from some of the beer that had spilled when he decided to take a nap. only at bonnaroo. if that guy is reading this i want to thank you for making me laugh so hard.
anyway i am pretty sure they wont play the same night. it would be tragic and superfly has to know this
Certain people I know are going to flip, with these two acts back to back nights. I'm glad I'll finally get to see MMJ, as I was going to see Sigur Ros if it came down to one of the two.
I tell ya... people are underestimating this festival. It's going to be amazing.

Absolutely. Metallica will be OK. I'm not the biggest fan, but they should be a decent time. Admittedly I will be ducking out a little early to get a prime spot for MMJ.
And Jack Johnson will try to pull off something big for sure. He's HEADLINING BONNAROO. He isn't just gonna go out there and put on his normal show. I honestly am expecting something big from him. (Dave Matthews, Ben Harper?)
Pearl Jam is going to rock the shit out of the crowd on Saturday night.
Beyond the headliners, the festival is stacked:
Kanye West Chris Rock Robert Plant and Alison Krauss featuring T Bone Burnett Phil Lesh & Friends My Morning Jacket The Allman Brothers Band The Raconteurs Willie Nelson Death Cab for Cutie B.B. King Sigur Ros Levon Helm and the Ramble on the Road Ben Folds Iron & Wine Zappa Plays Zappa Talib Kweli Gogol Bordello Broken Social Scene Lupe Fiasco Drive-By Truckers MSTRKRFT !!! The Avett Brothers Ladytron Ghostland Observatory Battles Vampire Weekend Chromeo MGMT
