bruce and e- street would be an amazing roo headliner one of these years. even if you don't like the boss that much, the e street band is easily one of the most talented "back up" bands ever. clarence clemons is a saxophone god, and the guest possibilities would be endless. i think bruce would be just right.

I'm seeing them Thursday and it's gonna be a killer show.
i get that people sincerely like it. but it's like one of the 3D paintings. i just don't see it. it's ultimately forgettable bland stuff you hear at state fairs and downtown block parties.

i dont even get why u2 and springtseen are famous. madonna either.
Springsteen is one of the great living American songwriters, period. End of story. If you don't believe me, listen to "Atlantic City," because I think The Band would tend to agree.
U2 wrote some of the most meaningful and heartfelt songs to come out of the 80's and their great work continued on well into the 90's. I don't really care for their stuff over the last 10 years, but if you can't get moved by "One", then there may be no hope for you.
Madonna, I don't know. Maybe some of the ladies can answer this for me as well.
I'll agree, before the dissenters arrive! I've seen U2 twice and i would easily put them both in my top 5 live concerts of all time (out of around 200-250 concerts, so far)
I asked the U2 haters on another thread one time if any had actually seen them and none had. I've never known anyone to not enjoy a U2 show.
Yeah well...everyone makes mistakes....that'd be one of yours.
I just don't see the appeal in a band who doesn't have any great (or even marginally impressive) musicians, has generally poor songwriting and is genuinely famous for being "rock stars" rather than "musicians".
I'm just not impressed by them at all, and they honestly haven't produced a single song that I like.
Since the band formed in 1976, they have won 23 Grammys for everything from album of the year, song of the year, best rock group, and best rock album. they have won 7 BRIT awards(five of them for best international artist), 14 meteor awards, an AMA, 4 Video music awards, 10 Q awards, 2 Juno Awards, 3 NME awards, and a Golden Globe Award. U2 was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2005. They have played with such artists as B.B. King, Mary J. Blige, The Corrs, Ect. They have had Massive world tours since the 80's with such opening bands as Bush, No Doubt, INXS, Kings of Leon, Damien Marley, and Kanye West(thats right one of your HEADLINERS, was an opening act). Those world tours probably have something to do with the enourmous amount of number one singles they have had. or maybe its due to the fact that they are involved and helped start some of the biggest charities in the world (Darfur, (Red), One Campain, Band Aid, And several others). Not to mention the fact that they are the first people EVER to have there own live action 3D film. So the fact that you can call bono "a total Douche" just further clarifys my point that many people are extremely ignorant and would rather judge a band without knowing anything about them, rather than giving them a chance. So is U2 too big for bonnaroo? hmm well when Bono was blessed by the pope i believe he said the same thing the queen of England said when she met with him. Yes, Bono you alone are too big for bonnaroo. Not to even mention your entire band. The people of bonnaroo dont deserve to even be in the presence of such greatness.
Yeah...I'd say u2 is too big for Bonnaroo. Come on you have Metallica as a headliner why would you even think Bonnaroo could get somebody like U2 or zeppelin.
the police was a one time deal, and they are not even in the same league as the stones, zep, or U2. Just in case you don't already know, compared to all the other festivals in the world. Bonnaroo is a nothing festival. I wouldnt be suprised if some of these bands dont even know what the hell bonnaroo is!!

I'm not the biggest U2 fan, but they put on one hell of a show. Bono is an arrogant bum, but he sure can sing and The Edge is so awesome. As for that rhythm section........
The short answer is no. Metallica and The Police sell out the biggest venues and both are playing Bonnaroo. I think the festival could easily handle most any band given the right circumstances but there are a few exceptions that come to mind at the moment:
Led Zeppelin reunion without a tour Pink Floyd reunion without a tour Phish reunion without a tour Hannah Montana in any circumstance

Dude get another favorite band. You give U2 fans a bad rep. I'd smite but you're not worth it.

I completely agree with you dudezer.....the only way a show would be too big for Bonnaroo is if those really big bands played a festival only but didn't tour.
U2....NOT too big for Bonnaroo.
I've wanted to see them for a long time. They do not come to Nashville, so I guess that won't be happening.
But yeah, at the expense of feeding the trolls, this.....
"Yes, Bono you alone are too big for bonnaroo. Not to even mention your entire band. The people of bonnaroo dont deserve to even be in the presence of such greatness."
...is one of the funniest things I have read on the forum. And you get Karma for making me laugh.
Really, hop down from the high horse and join the rest of us in music-loving land.
Or better yet, keep up the flag waving and take it to the U2 forum.

Maybe Abba.
Abba has been offered 1 billion dollars to tour and have turned it down. Abba was the biggest band in the world for several years, they brought more money into Sweden than Volvo.

i dont think its a size thing either. its about how much money a headliner is gonna want, and whether or not they can do better playing solo shows. roo pays so many acts to play that, at some point, they just can't spend that much on a single performer. some ppl just aren't very feasible as festival shows anymore because of this. not many, but certainly a few. i just don't see how a group that could basically name their price for a sellout at any US venue (floyd, zep for sure) would play for a fraction of a $250 ticket, especially when there have to be at least 3 or 4 other big acts that draw some pretty big cash as well on the lineup.
i think you are very wrong to be honest. There are very limited amount of places in the country that can without strain hold a concert for 80k+ this is obviously a factored a lot when you are trying to come up with the most epic concert. Bonnaroo makes a gigantic profit each year, proof of this is the fest is annual, year after year bigger acts are announced, more people hear about it and the powers that be have recently have bought the farm almost lifting all limits of how big this fest can be. Bonnaroo is not struggling, and I think they could easily pay any band their asking price without breaking the bank or skimping too much on the rest of the lineup, even if it is Zep or Floyd (both and you wouldnt even need an undercard) And tickets are by no means the only way Superfly/AC gets their income. Vendors have to pay out the ass to get permission to sell stuff there, and there is a shitton of Bonnaroo merchandise. Also dont forget, ticket prices are by no means set in stone and people will pay A LOT to visit the farm regardless of whos playing.

i would not want to see U2 or the stones at roo. i saw the bigger bang tour, and i was personally impressed with their performance, but roo just isn't their type of show. they need/want a stage to themselves.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
