You know...after sleeping on it for a few days I was starting to accept the line up, but then Kanye came up on the Grammys and just made me unhappy again. If I could just block him out of my head Bonnaroo will look oh so great again!
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
I'm a big fan of Kanye's albums. I've never seen him live and I've heard good and bad reviews. I prefer my live hip-hop in more intimate settings (small clubs, Bonnaroo tents), but I'm excited he's on the bill and will definitely see him if I make it to Roo.
One thing that hasn't come up in this discussion: Am I the only person who hears a lot of insecurity and vulnerability in Kanye's lyrics? He has the egomaniacal persona but one of the things I find most interesting about his albums/lyrics is the ways he undercuts it sometimes and reveals the uncertainty behind his persona. Sometimes he certainly seems to be taking himself (and things like the Grammys) too seriously, but other time he seems to be extremely aware of the irony and absurdity of his persona, his role in culture, etc. Along with his humor, that tension is one of my favorite things about his music. Personally I think the guy is a sophisticated, relevant, talented artist. I still don't know if I'll dig his live show but I want to find out. I also think he's way more interesting than the other two hip-hop acts on the bill, who aren't nearly as daring or original as Kanye in my book.

I talked about this early in page 11 and throughout page 12. You hit it right on the head in a very articulate way.

and am I the only person that has no idea what this dior clothing is? It sounds like a fückin' cologne.
Well, that's because there IS Dior Cologne. Christian Dior is the brand. Not all Dior is that expensive (or that stylish IMO).
Whoa, Dior is NOT a brand, its a designer! Kanye's performance was pretty sweet at the grammys, i really liked the spoken part of the 'momma' song, and the singing wasn't unbearable. I would dislike Kanye more if i didn't think he busts his ass for what he gets. Just because you don't grow up in poverty doesn't mean you don't earn the things you get. I genuinely believe Kanye is one of the hardest working people in his scene, and if he wants to be cocky, i think hes probably earned it. How many of you have achieved what Kanye has?

well, in my opinion, you don't ever EARN the right to alienate people or be a dbag. and a lot of us may not be making millions selling records, but i think you'd find plenty of people here who have achieved some amazing things.
ok, i'm bothered by kanye's off-stage persona as much as the next guy but i can't deny the fact that there is talent there. that "hey mama" song caught me completely off guard and was personally very touching. yes, behind the scenes he can be an a** but his grammy performance kind of changed my mind about checking out his show at roo, i guess what i'm trying to say is that i'm intrigued

saw Kanye close Lolla Saturday night in '06.......he not only had one technical problem, but several, with the mikes cutting out at the beginning of two songs, and his DJ cut into a track that wasnt supposed to be played untill later in the set. Kanye even said on stage " some shit is going to change tommorrow". Next day, i heard that he fired a few of his sound guys. With that said and through all of the problem, it was still one of the most entertaining shows of that year....Ween was there, RHCP closed it....Kanye beat them all...well,maybe not Ween...but anyways.....if he can keep the tech probs to a minimum, it will be onr of the most entertaining shows of this year's roo....trust me...dont like him, good....looks like ill have plenty of room to move around during him and Metallica.....This year will be one for the books....
