I'm pretty sure that's a Mother Love Bone songs originally, but PJ covers it. It'd still be cool to hear.
Yeah, it was a Mother Love Bone song. The bassist and guitarist for MLB are now in Pearl Jam, however, so they cover it from time to time. From what I've seen, they play it at big shows and for special occasions (10th anniversary, MSG, Chicago, Gorge, Lolla, Reading).
There is a video from Reading last year. I've only seen it once - I have the mp3s from the Gorge & MSG though, and I get chills everytime I hear it. Easily one of my favorite PJ songs.
They played it the one and only time I have ever seen them. I am really looking forward to seeing them again. This is a link to the setlist of the show I got to see.
Does anyone know the rare track, "Alone"? I believe it was an outake from either Ten or VS. It is one of my favorites, and I don't know if they have played it live more than once or twice.
It was released as a b-side to "Go" -- I had it forever ago on a "Ten"-era cassette bootleg but I don't know if I have heard it live since.

Nope they've played Alone quite a bit on their recent tours! And actually, Elderly Woman is hardly a rarity. However, when it comes to Pearl Jam there is NO predicting sets. They could easily play a hits set at bonnaroo or none at all. they WILL play evenflow haha.
I've been lucky enough to see them play Crown of Thorns 3 of the 12 times they've ever played it. Similar luck with Around the Bend and I'm Open, which they've played only a handful of times.
I was also in Philly when they brought "Breath" back in 2000 and 2003.
And I've been lucky enough to see one of the three times they've covered "Little Sister" and "Mother."
Now- all of that and I've only seen them 6 times. I've just been incredibly lucky.... so maybe my luck will help Roo be even better and rarer...

Pearl Jam loves Philly. They play great show there.
I was lucky enough to be at the legendary MSG shows in 03, the one they made a dvd out of. Still probably the best concert i've ever seen (although radiohead and tool at roo the last 2 years have come close.)

That's awesome... That MSG show is truly amazing.
I've seen them in Philly 4 times over the years (including the near-legendary rarities show of 05 in the Wachovia) and the two 2006 nights in Chicago.

I think I was at that 05 Wachovia show. Was that the one where every thing got fucked up during Crazy Mary?
Don't forget it's an election year, maybe: American in Me (Live at Easy Street) Patriot (I hope) Also Jack Johnson is there, what about : Goodbye (A Brokedown Melody Sountrack)

This is a great thread by the way! For me to hear something "rare" by them nowadays is hard because they play almost all their songs live. My friend and I have to hear State of Love and Trust. I would love to hear Dirty Frank (perfect Roo tune, can't believe it hasn't been mentioned), 25 Minutes To Go, Daughter -> It's Okay (how amazing would that be hearing 80,000 people chanting that?), Rival (one of my favs that never gets played), and Fuckin' Up and I Got Shit (with special appearance by Neil Young).
I am kinda PJ fanatic and have very big hopes for Bonnaroo! =)

I saw Pearl Jam back in '02, and it completely blew me away. Is it true that they rarely play Black? Because they did when I saw them. It's probably my favorite PJ song...looking forward to hearing it on the farm

Their website keeps up with the setlists. You can click on individual songs and see number of times played and all that jazz. Looks like it was played at around half the '07 shows but it seemed pretty standard in '06. I would be surprised if they didn't play it on the farm.

That is the song I most want to hear Pearl Jam play. Though I have heard many rarities in the shows I've been to, this is the song that keeps eluding me.
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."
as far as rare songs I want to see "Undone" "All night" "NO WAY" "mankind" "Dirty Frank" "Tremor Christ" "Fatal" "Ghost" "Help Help" and I know this one isnt too rare but they havent played it since 2003 I think "Nothing as it seems" I love how they play that one live!!!
I'm listening to their Albany 2006 concert right now. They got Rats, Red Mosquito, Off He Goes, Satan's Bed and a solo Ed version of You've Got To Hide Your Love Away. I'd love to hear any of those.
