Can we have an Official "I'm not going to Bonnaroo 08" so that we don't just have everyone starting a thread to tell other that they aren't attending?
Or you know... you could just state your opinion of the line up in one of the line up threads and let viewers use context clues to determine if you'll be there or not.
am I being cranky this morning?? I apologize if I am... I don't mean to be. This is actually a serious, kind-hearted suggestion that I think would just make things easier maybe?
im not going because for me personally there is no act on there that warrants spending the money since the bands i want to see, ie. BSS, MGMT, phil,M.I.A iv all seen before and even if i hadnt seen them it still wouldnt be worth it

I did pick up on a small hint of sarcasm after rereading the post, but the abundance of threads entitled "I'm not going" or something similar made me think of presenting an idea.
STS9 is electronica, Disco Bisuits are the same, MMW are more Jazz Fussion, YMSB is more less bluegrass. All this is just my opinion.
I say that to ask what really are Jam Bands. I mean Pearl Jam can jam. Heck I saw Sting rock out to a 27 minute version of "Roxanne". I just don't know that there are any real jam bands that are in the main stream.
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.
^i feel like its yusually the drunk people yelling "WOO" at the quiet moment, the pharmied up kids usually pass out and need to be carried out and ruin the quiet beautiful moments

Hah. I was being generous so that I myself didn't get smitten, but I'll see if I can't round up 15 that I consider excellent. I am going to limit this to bands that are currently touring.

^maybe as bonnaroo vets we hold a place in our hearts for this festival
as a bonnaroo vet, I hold a place in my heart for this festival to stay fresh, and to constantly evolve. I want them to never get stuck in that rut they started getting into in 2005 with repeat headliners. This satisfies that desire for me. As person who is rooted in jam music, I *LOVE* this lineup.
I would much rather see a diverse, eccentric, FRESH lineup like this at Bonnaroo, than a rehashing of something they've already done, and done better than anyone else who is currently copying their "jamband festival" idea.
The "jamband" festival is for smaller time fests now. Those who wish to draw max of 40K. I'm sorry it just is. to Draw 80K in 2008 in a world where jambands have trouble selling out theaters, they have to move outside of the realm of being a "jamband" festival.

You're missing Railroad Earth on that list too. They do some of the best improvisation I've heard.
I'm not going to Bonnaroo this year, (which I'm kinda bummed about) not because I think the lineup is bad, because it's not. That's a very solid lineup. I don't really care for the headliners, but the mid-tier acts are very good. (plus, I'm sure we'll see some amazing additions too)
I'm not going because I'm already taking too many trips and my girl and I just bought VIP tickets to 10,000 lakes, which, by the way, is an amazing festival. I only paid 400 for my VIP tickets. That's only double the "early bird" price for Bonnaroo.
One thing I am afraid about is the alarmingly high rate of rising the price does year to year. That sucks.
yea, it's gone up $25 this year. Generally, it's been $15 every year. It Won't be long and it will be $300. With an act like Led Zeppelin, $300 is probably close to what most people would be paying, and it would be a ticket clusterfuck.
