Here's something strange. I was on Bonnaroo's website hoping to come across a page with the 2008 lineup on it. Of course I didn't find anything. But I just thought this was strange. Most likely it means nothing but I was just adding artist names after the / that follows the .com For example, I searched www.bonnaroo.com/led-zeppelin, you get the idea. Of course past artists who have played Bonnaroo come up because they have played Bonnaroo and already have a page and/or profile. So I searched bands who haven't played and some bands brought up different pages. Here's what I mean:
1.AT&T BLUE ROOM VEGOOSE WEBCAST - THIS WAS THE FIRST ARTICLE UNDER THE NEWS SECTION
LED ZEPPELIN METALLICA PEARL JAM
2.FREE SHIPPING OFFER IN THE BONNAROO STORE - FIRST ARTICLE UNDER NEW SECTION
PAT GREEN
3.BONNAROO 2008 DATES ANNOUNCED - FIRST ARTICLE UNDER NEWS SECTION
DAFT PUNK BB KING
For the record, I know nothing about html, website building or any of that stuff, so while it most likely means nothing, it just seemed kind of odd to me. So does anyone know why different bands might bring up different pages?

to further clear this up, the bands listed didn't come up, those were the bands I searched, and those were the pages that came up when I searched those bands. know what i mean?

in a gloomy haze, I heard the word, OYSTERHEAD.
i was just watching my oysteread dvd from 06 and that was 2 of the best hours of music i have ever seen. i hope that's not the last time we see them play
I guess I'll take a blind stab based on hopes and dreams (I haven't really checked any tour schedules or anything)
Zeppelin The Kinks Tom Waits The Mars Volta STS9 (another late night smasher...please!!!) Team Sleep (you cant deny it would be great) Keller Williams Umphrey's Drive-by Truckers The Whigs (playing a bigger stage this year...please!) Jurassic 5 Minus the Bear Snowden LTJ Bukem Mastodon (I know it sounds weird for Roo...but I think they would go over pretty well) Circa Survive
blah blah blah I know half of this would never come true...but its fun to think about!

i just thought of something. for those of you that use myspace, bonnaroo has last year's artists as their friends. and if you have a myspace account, you know that adding friends isn't exactly a quick process. so i was thinking i'd look at those listed as bonnaroo's friends, seeing if there are any bands on there that haven't played in the past. but then i saw they have over 1200 pages of friends, and by the time i searched through all those pages, the lineup will probably be out. i may check a handful of pages, but i just thought i'd mention it, what does everyone think?
Post by BrokenLight on Jan 16, 2008 1:40:18 GMT -5
ok, getting back to my myspace idea. i did some searching. found some interesting things. of course i saw many bands on there that have played before, so i basically ignored them because i don't really think that means anything. but i found a handful of bands that have never played, one of these bands even has headliner potential, but most seemed to be much smaller acts. now, i have a myspace account, so i know how adding friends works. i have people who send me messages everyday asking to be friends. i have a musician profile, and most of these people looking to become friends are musicians themselves. anyways, i'm sure everyone gets the picture. and although you should take my little experiment with a grain of salt, it just seems kind of odd that some of these bands are on bonnaroo's list of friends. anyways, on with the list:
metallica - i know they have denied that they're playing, not exactly sure on their tourdates - i thought they might be in europe, but led zeppelin and metallica being inaccurate could very well mean that we could be getting robert plant/alison krauss and metallica. that's still not the same as zeppelin and metallica.
mix master mike - after seeing the beastie boys on festival lineups last year and this year, i have thought all along that they will be at bonnaroo this year. i'm sticking with that thought, and possibly a late night set with mix master mike. seems like there is always a latenight show with dj's/rapper's etc. he could be in one of those tents this year.
big and rich - i think they are listed as unlikely on the not at bonnaroo thread because of surgery? so while it may be unlikely, and whether you like country music or not, i hate most of it, you have to admit that country music stars are a very big part of the biggest tours every summer. i hate it, but thats what its coming too.
lucinda williams - i'm fine with someone like her playing bonnaroo, i probably won't see it, but it wouldn't upset me, as big and rich probably would. i think she is also playing some other festivals this year - wakarusa maybe, most likely she is touring, i think she also had a cd that did very well on the charts last year. i saw her open for tom petty several years ago.
bobby bare jr - i think he's also playing wakarusa, and again, not my cup of tea, but he would be okay by me, i probably wouldn't see him.
some other bands i found that i'm not really gonna say anything about:
keane sister hazel hot hot heat chicago afrobeat project candlebox danielson diet audio the loft buddahead scarecrow collection oval opus kate voegele seepeoples the iry trifecta funk the bridge
Post by BrokenLight on Jan 16, 2008 1:43:49 GMT -5
and if anyone wants to try my experiment for themselves, i searched bonnaroo's first 250 pages of friends. it took a little over an hour, and i was watching seinfeld rerun's and listening to band of horses while doing this

brokenlight: Lucinda Williams, Buddahead and Mix Master Mike all played in '03. Also I think Bobby Bare, Jr., was an '06 cafe act. Otherwise, good idea and nice work. Also, I'd love to see Danielson at Bonnaroo!

these are certainly interesting points and are not random. If you look at the continuity of what pages come up... it give an indication of when they were signed to play(if they were signed to play). Here's the deal. IF these webpages were created and they are waiting to release them, they took a copy of all the code for the front page and put it up under those addresses... bonnaroo.com/led-zeppelin, etc...
That being said, IF they have created those website, they can simply put the REAL source code/information that would tell about the band in a kind of a "side note" dealio that wouldn't be visible until it is added to the main code stream. IF/WHEN they announce the lineup and open those addresses, they would delete that main page code and add the artist information code.
Honestly this is a really really cool find... I hope your sleuthing proves to be right, because in an IT guys mind, this makes complete sense. As soon as they signed the band, they created the web page for them and left it alone.
As far as the bonnaroo.com/rebecca thing goes... there are things called aliases. they can program it so that if you type in that one web address, it will re-route itself to another/correct web page. (ex) you want to go to www.bonnaroo.com/led-zeppelin ... but you don't know how to spell led zeppelin(like me adding the G to it every time ;D) . If i misspell it and put ... .com/led-zeppeling, and that is a proper alias that has been programmed in, it will re-route it. I was going to make a point that maybe there was an artist named Rebecca and the alias sent you to that point in time, but i just tested it, anyone's name that would not likely be there as an artist, it just brings up the standard homepage.
the point i was going to
This... is... fantastic... Thanks for allowing me to bring my nerdom to fruition and put it to good use!
^you mean you are just typing like bonnaroo.com/willie-nelson into your address bar? I tried that with a bunch of bands and it just refreshes back to the original bonnaroo page... maybe im doing it wrong? I don't see any "news"

no you aren't doing it wrong, you just aren't understanding fully...
it DOES go back to the "home page"... but if our line of thought is correct, it is just a copy of the home page. If you type Led-Zeppelin... and you look at the news in the middle of the page... look what happens... it is no longer an updated homepage... instead the latest news is back from November "AT&T blue room Vegoose Webcast".
you catch our drift now? Therefore i believe that when the band was signed the created a webpage www.bonnaroo.com/led-zeppelin and copied the home content from the webpage AT THAT TIME... soon if they are headlining, that info will be replaced by actual artist info like www.bonnaroo.com/radiohead has.
