Now that I'm back from 'Roo... and back into the workforce. I'm eagerly trying to figure out what my next big trip (aka: what I'm working to earn money for) is going to be... I'd really like to see Pearl Jam and Daft Punk at Lollapalooza, but I'm not sure what the vibe is there... anyone have any info?
And also, was wondering what any of y'alls post Roo plans might be!
Going to John Bultler Trio tonight, Xavier Rudd on Tuesday (nice to see them both play a full set and in the AC!), Les Claypool on Thursday. Also can't wait for Rock the Bells in August!!

I'll be at Lolla, but besides PJ I'm not really looking forward to it as much as I was Roo. Shorter sets, and I'm sure the vibe won't nearly be as good.
Guess the thing I'm looking forward to the most is being able to go to an air conditioned hotel when I'm dying from the heat in the middle of the afternoon ; )
The Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago in July. Ween at Stubb's in Austin in August. ACL Festival in September (aftershows?) Wall of Sound Festival in Fort Worth the weekend after ACL (http://www.wallofsoundfestival.com/)
I went to Lolla last year, and while the vibe wasn't bad by any means, it's nothing compared to Roo. I don't think I could go back to Lolla after experiencing the Bonnaworld. All shows had to end by 11 last year, no big jams, everyone has to stick very tightly to their scheduled slot. On top of that, you really don't get that community feeling like you do at Roo. That being said, Lolla still has a pretty nice lineup and I'm sure a good time will be had by all who attend -- after all, Chicago weather (temp-wise) is near perfect in August, a nice contrast to the sweaty meltdown of Roo.
If you are looking for the Roo vibe with the diversity of acts, on a scaled back level, the obvious choice is Vegoose. Great Fest. Very Roo-like in nature and execution.

ACL, Buddy Guy (best live blues act alive) and Muddy Waters Band at Billy Bob's in August, maybe Gwar and Hank williams 3, I missed the Black Keys and Dinosaur Jr. yesterday which sucked. I didn't even know about the wall of sound festival and its in my hometown. No reason to miss that, although the lineup isnt anything spectacular.

I got three Dylan shows coming up next week, then a couple Stripes shows in a month. Throw in some Randy Newman, Buddy Guy, and Weird Al and it's looking to be a good summer.

Black Keys in Detroit - June 26th Dispatch @ Madison Square Garden - July 14th Xavier Rudd in Detroit - July 20th Hoxeyville Music Festival - July 27-29 Modest Mouse in Cleveland - August 16th
And who knows what else, I am open for suggestions...
I'd agree that the lollapalooza lineup is stellar, however...
How do you swing a weekend music festival with no camping? Where does everyone go? It has to be a traffic madhouse, and hotels have to be expensive. I feel like the atmosphere would be really different. I appreciate being able to crash nearby in my own tent at 'roo. Just my feelings.
I'll be seeing Gogol Bordello in July in Cleveland, and spend a weekend at Nelson Ledges, probably not on a concert weekend though.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this

Public transportation. It's in the middle of downtown Chicago, along Lake Michigan and the beautiful skyline-- so of course the atmosphere is different, it's not anything like roo.

Lolla is fun, but it's like going to the grocery store and getting a "taster" of every band you like. Hour long sets are just not quite enough for me, and there are rarely guests or jamming or any of that. Mind you, I still enjoy 3 days of great music, but it's no Roo.
I will be doing late nights this year, and to make up for the lack of per se jamming, I think I'm going to see Soulive and STS9. I'm still hoping moe. adds a late night on Saturday.

I think I'm going to go see moe. and Old Crow Medicine Show in the coming weeks, but my big hangup about Lollapalooza is the corporate feel to it. I'd imagine being in a park, there'd also be a big police presence that would put a damper on things. I spent a little time on the lollapalooza message board, and let me tell ya... it ain't no inforoo...
But if I end up not going to Lolla, I'm probably going to go up to Montreal and see Daft Punk up there.

You mean Lets-spend-lots-of-money-palooza? The lineup is pretty much perfect, but it's in downtown chicago. Stay in hotel rooms, potentially take cabs to the shows every day. Sounds really nice, but also expensive. Not for me. I'm looking at AllGood and Floydfest, personally.

lolla is great but way way to much money and sucks to get a hotel if your under 21 cause there are probly 3 in the city that allow you to stay other then that it isnt bad at all no search good people. no long sets tho 2 hours for the headliners at the most. worth it to see daft punk wish i lived in michigan again
I'll be at Lolla. It is way different than Bonnaroo, but I enjoyed it almost as much last year. We stayed in Beverly with my friend's grandparents who have an insanely awesome old-time diner style basement (with 2 plasma tv's). Only cost us a few train rides to and from Grant Park. I'm really excited for it this year.

This will be my third Lolla (all of the Chi-Town years) and I love it. Comparing lolla to roo is like apples to oranges, they are both cool for different reasons. Granted the sets are shorter and the vibe not as "hippie", it's awesome becaues you are in the middle of freakin chicago! Always have a great time and meet awesome people. Besides lolla I'm going to 10K here in minnesota (sneaking in again this year...crafty locals) and ACL in sept.
My husband and I were first-time roo-ers this year and we miss it already. Grateful to live in Chicago so Gogol Bordello next month, free Decemberists show after that, and Lolla after that - really for Pearl Jam as much as anything else. The Old Town School of Folk Music has their Roots & Folk festival at the same time as Pitchfork, so I'll be seeing Uncle Earl and Bettye LaVette there instead.

I desperately wanted to go to Bonnaroo this year...especially since I dislike the Lollapalooza line-up. At least Summerfest is in a few weeks! I still think Bonnaroo's line-up was by far the best of all the festivals this year.

Layin' low for July. Then in aug. it's off to Austin for two nights of Ween at Stubbs. After that I'm pretty much tapped since I have to attend a friends wedding in Nov. Good thing there's some good shows coming to Tucson in a few Months: Zappa Plays Zappa, Animal Collective and Rodrigo Y Gabriela jump to mind.
