I was there in '05 when Widespread had a parade of guests through their sets. Warren Haynes, Herbie Hancock, Luther and Cody Dickenson, Bob Weir, and more. So what happened this year? I loved their set. I just expected to see some cross-pollination (like that Mule show) and was surprised that didn't materialize.

I liked the 05 a lot better, but I am not a huge Panic fan, so the special guests made the show a lot more interesting for me. I also was way more tired and beat this year by Sunday evening than in 05, I am sure that made a difference.

^^^I'd say I agree but that's probably unfair because we didn't actually attend WSP this year, although we heard it from our camp. Their Sunday show in '05 was very strong, and I must say that Herbie really stole the show with his guest spot. It was wild to hear these very respectable rock musicians take solos, then have a masterful jazz cat come on and have something TRULY significant to say; it kinda put it all in perspective, at least for me.

WSP didn't need guests obviously....they rocked hard and every man in the band held his own. After seeing that band, i don't see how any fan of music or sound for that matter couldn't understand or enjoy watching others enjoy WSP. They rocked, and I'm a fan for ever. 05 was a good show, but this show just flowed...melted, and ran wild through the veins of all the die hard roo fans! Great way to end it!
I knew this would never happen, but I was hoping to god that trey would come out and tear it up for the most epic fucking closer in music history. Especially since he has no other shows this summer and has much history with the festival, it didn't seem completely out of the question. That is, if they would let him out of rehab for it....Actually now that I think about it, Bonnaroo would probably not be a good place for trey right now.

Who cares! They were awesome! They played Talking Heads' Heaven (which i have never heard anybody play live) and and a really faithful sludgy cover of Sabbath's Faires Wear Boots....it was fricking great!

Jimmy Herring is the greatest thing to ever happen to WSP. I wasn't at 'roo this year, but I was at Waka the week before. They absolutely killed Waka with a 3 hour set (taking 5 minutes for a break before the encore).
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
I think WSP validated their spot as a headliner Sunday. The addition of Mr. Herring make this band much hotter! I also was hoping for one more JP Jones appearances but was not dissapointed.

are we all talking about the same widespread panic here? because that doesnt make sense.
this year's show was great and all, but I was definitely disappointed in them. This is Panic, and they closed for Bonnaroo. CLOSING BONNAROO. You'd better put on one hell of a show, and they just didn't. Now Jimmy tore it up all night long, but like others have said, there were ZERO guests, and they played 1 long set. Fairies Wear Boots and Protein>Sewing was unique, but STILL. I just felt like it could have been a much better show.

if it was the widespread panic that closed the festival on sunday night then yes
this drummer?
i thought they did a great job, and i'm not even a huge WSP fan ... i did think they would have had guests, but thought the show was awesome nonetheless..
edit - and playing "Crippled Inside" was one of the highlights - after hearing Zeppelin covers all weekend (which was awesome) it was great to hear a Lennon cover ;D

WSP was great this year, but they didnt rip the roof off! Vegoose closing show last year was sooo much better!! its not the fact they didnt have any guests(any panic fan could care less). i loved the dicso>travelin light. disco always a great opener! the covers were awesome!
I am not a Panic fan, but I finally could hear what all their fans have been talking about last Sunday. It was the first time I've really enjoyed them as a band. Sure, the guests were good in years past, but this time I felt they really didn't need a single guest, the show was just great on its own.

The show was the perfect way to end the weekend. Todd does his job and sets the boys up perfectly. They sounded as good as they have in a long time. Jimmy blows George out of the water... but I miss Mikey.

of course.... I obviously know who WSP is or I wouldn't be talking about them . I'm just saying I enjoyed old panic a lot better than new panic. =\
