Rodrigo y Gabriela were freaking awesome. The tent was rocking and everybody was really into it. Everyone should definitely check them out if they already haven't.
Ok, I don't know how many of you stayed after Panic on Sunday night, but I kept hearing some great sounds coming from somewhere, and I went walking to try and figure out what it was.
Eventually over in the RV area, I found a little stage attached to a cafe food-vending area that was all powered by some solar panels on top of the set-up. What an incredible party! It went all night and the band only stopped playing when the sun came up.
Oh yeah, the band was Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, and they played some of the most awesome smooth kick ass reggaeish music I've ever heard. Definitely my best musical surprise of the fest.
That was a fun show! I was camped in camping only right down the street and had passed out after Panic. I woke up a few hours later and was walking to the port-a-pottys when I heard them. I stayed for maybe 20 minutes, but I was literally about to fall asleep standing up I was so exhausted. A great surprise for me, every year but this one I end up being the only one of my freinds up late night Sunday. I'm glad you knew their name, I'll have to check them out again soon.
So that's what that was. I was having a really good wander because of a lot extra "energy" and was drawn to that beat like a moth to a flame. I wandered past and stayed within earshot for most of my stroll. It was a great mellow groove.

...they kicked my ass. I had no idea who they were and hadn't planned on seeing them. A friend dragged me over to the show and I'm so glad he did. They were phenomenal.
Gogol Bordello, Tea leaf green and the white stripes. I had previously been indifferent about the white stripes but after seeing them live im now a fan!!!
Man I wish I had gone to the JBT set. I have Sunrise Over Sea and Grand National. But I was too tired from the sun to walk from What Stage to The Other Tent, so I opted for the Arcade Tent and played Gears Of War for a couple of hours and caught the last part of Mavis Staples and then stayed at The Other Tent for the rest of the day.
But my new discovery? Stanton Moore Trio, definetly. Read the bio of them on Bonnaroo.com and I had to see them. The fact that Robert Walter was the organ player instead of their original one made it even better.

I heard the tea leaf green show was PHENOMENAL!!! I wish I had gotten to see them, but I guess one awsome thursday discovery was good enough
The Slip and Langhorne Slim. Had heard of both, but were fantastic live. I ended up catching the Slip twice because I was so impressed.
It's great to see so many folks getting into Gogol Bordello! Do yourself a favor and catch one of their headlining shows. You will not be disappointed!

Most of the shows I caught throughout the weekend I was already into but Friday....I believe.... I stumbled to a smaller stage.... The Sonic Stage, maybe? Anyway, was under the influence of some potent unmentionables and came upon Uncle Earl.... Was quite a good show. Very cool bluegrass/folk mix. And although I've been an Xavier Rudd fan for a while his show was phenomenal, danced my a$$ off ;D
i would have to say String Cheese, i know they've been around but i had never seen them before and their show friday night just opened me up.
other than that...
Dj Shadow TOOL & The Black Keys also blew me away!!!! i couldnt hear after that set, the energy was insane. all with just guitar and drums, i didnt know what to think.
Mute Math for sure. They were amazing, and I had never even heard of them before. I saw their name on the schedule and thought to myself, "that sounds like the name of a band I should like."
I was far from disappointed. I got their CD later though, and it wasn't nearly as impressive as they are live. If they can get that kind of energy into their later recordings, they'll have a great career. I'm also glad to hear they live in Tennessee now!
Also, not that they're by any means a new discovery, I had never listened to much Flaming Lips before, and their performance was great.
