Please, everyone...stop worrying about Moshing. TOOL ISNT A METAL BAND. Tool just isnt like that. Ive never seen any moshing at a Tool show. I think if someone tried to start moshing at a Tool show, the Tool fans would break some face. Tool is much more of a cerebral experience than what many of you are giving them credit for. Yes the crowd will have energy...but the "good" type of energy. Its not the kind of energy that makes its viewers want to smash against another, its the kind of energy that makes the viewer want to embrace the person next to them for being a part of such a great experience.
Really, the moshing thing....stop worrying about it. All Ive heard about is moshing with regard to Tool....I never heard anything about moshing with Clutch lol....and clutch has much more of the right kind of energy for mosing. Tool....not so much.
There was actually only one post in this thread inquiring about moshing, hardly classifies as "everyone." Plus, as someone who has only heard parts of their CDs and never seen them live or they don't know anything about the band, it would be a valid concern.
Also, isn't

a bit, i dunno... oxymoronic? Tool fans don't jump into each other and push and shove, but if someone does then they'll all beat the hell out of them. Seems kind of like... a mosh pit, maybe?
I realize there won't be moshing at Tool, I just felt like throwing my 2 cents in.
Ok. This is probably my biggest conflict for the weekend. I am not a Tool fan but i'm sure it will be an awesome show. On the other hand, I am a HUGE Zeppelin fan, and John Paul Jones at the Superjam (along with Ben Harper and ?uestlove!) makes me want to show up 4 hours early to stake out a spot. I want to be front row and center for JPJ.
Am I underestimating how awesome the Tool concert will be? Or am I overestimating how epic the Superjam will be?
i haven't read every post on this. but as a huge tool fan and a give-my-left-one-for-Zeppelin-fan, i am fo sho going to see JPJ. for me, my concert life will be complete. i saw plant solo, page n plant on no quarter tour twice, and this will be JPJ. even if tool pulls something special out their ass, it won't be John Paul Jones out of it. my opinion of course. smite me if you must, but if God was a band, LED ZEPPELIN BE THY NAME!

a) wasnt just talking about this thread
b) learn more about moshing before you stay shit like that. Moshing isnt just a beatdown. Its much more dancing than fighting. People can't just look at it as that though. They have to assume theres so much violence in it.
c)And what I meant was more of a metaphor. Not literally "break face", but definitely keep the random mosher in check.
I think one of the reasons TOOL and their fans frown upon moshing at their shows is that TOOL is a full-on sensory experience. If you're not watching the stage, you're missing a large part of the show! Much like Phish, the lights/props are very elaborate and worth paying attention to.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
