i got hung up somewhere and missed him friday here ... so should i check him out at the roo ?? cr****
The album is great, but like many hip-hop acts, I believe the live show might be questionable. And I am not saying that all hip-hop sucks live, because I have seen plenty of good hip-hop shows, but hip-hop shows are very hit or miss..... But sometimes if there is too much going on in a hip-hop show then it brings down the quality of the show. (i.e. too many people on the stage yelling along with the songs)
Yeah man, I missed out at the first Rock the Bells show in New York.. It sucked but I dealt with it by knowing that most hip hop live is pretty horrible with some exceptions (the Roots don't count they're a jazz band that plays hip hop) I got tickets to the second show because a bunch of my friends are going so that ended well.
I've seen some horrible hip hop shows.. I've also seen some great ones at the same show. Saw the GZA and Cannibal Ox together.. GZA was awesome as he and his DJ were the only one on stage and he played his greatest parts from every song he's famous for. Can Ox wasn't so good because theyre a duo and they constantly talked/rapped over each other.
I'm hoping El-P will be good live because I've been listening to him since Funcrusher Plus and half of his talent are the beats which can't be ruined.
I'm confident that he will be good live because I saw his performance at the PLUG awards doing the "The Overly Dramatic Truth" and somehow it got me even more excited for the album. I'm listening to the performance right now and IMO it's better than the album version.. I dunno what it is, theres more emotion when he's live (maybe its the live brass musicians he has).. like in rock shows. I'm freakin stoked and I may be there alone cuz my friends aren't into him.... w/e their loss.
