It has come to my attention that according to schedule-ology predictions and the days bands are schedule to play, there could be some potentially heartbreaking bonflicts between mind-blowing bands playing simultaneously. Has this been a big problem in the past? If so, any coping strategies? ways of choosing? Please comfort me.

there are alot of threads regarding this but yes, its always like this, and they do it so the crowds are spread out...and all i can say is choose which half you want to see first and which 2nd.... or just go where the winds takes theeeeeee
The Mule and Lips conflict tears at me. I'm banking on Mules set being much longer than Lips and I can at least catch the last hour of it near the end.

If they start at the same time you can probably still catch 2 hours of mule after The Flips^. This is a good way to cope if the conflict is between a short and long act.
conflicts are pretty much the only bad thing about bonnaroo and they have existed since the festival's inception. The bigger name acts are all scheduled later in the day, so without fail, friday, saturday and sunday always have massive conflicts pre-headliner. The Late night shows generally go much much longer than a normal daytime set, so conflicts are more manageable, due to the fact that splitting time becomes easier.

well put. i also never really took in the consideration of bonflicts in the fact that they spread out the croud. so it's comforting knowing there's some good coming out of it. plus also being most sets are a good 2 hrs with one of the bands ending before the other's last hour, it's nice to know its possible to see both bands final mind-blow of their remaining hour. it comforts me that i won't be crying myself to sleep over any of this.

Right now, Girl Talk vs The Flaming Lips is tearing at me, and it looks like it will definiely happen. On one side, my favorite mashup artist. On the other, one of my fave bands. Both put on great shows. Hard decision.
it's funny, on other boards I hear people use the conflicts as an excuse why the aren't going to bonnaroo. As if having too many good bands in one place is somehow a bad thing.
I have mentioned this in another thread but the Xavier Rudd and O.C.M.S conflict is just as bad as Ben Harper/Keller/Ween conflict IMO. I really hope that either of these does not take place.
Old Crow takes center stage for me this year. I've tried to see them five times over the last twelve months, but for one reason or another it always falls through. No matter who they're playing against, I'll be there front row center.

Both (potential) conflicts are terrible. Unfortunatly, the ween/Keller conflict seems pretty definate, from their respective official websites. also worried about Manu Chao/Tortoise/Richard Thompson/JB Ulmer (Fri is such a clusterfuck!) and White Stripes/NMiss All*s.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Do ya'll think the lineup has already been etched in stone by SF? I am sure the headliners are set, but how about the other 97? Can SF be influenced by the mighty Inforoo? We need to petition the powers that be to end the Mule/Lips conflict (if there is one).
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

nothing is set in stone until it's posted on the Roo website. Remember that all posts here are purely speculation. any potential conflict at this point is just that, potential. As for influencing superfly, I imagine they work hard to put out a quality schedule without deference to the people on the internet. IE if they responded to the wants and needs of everyone who wanted the schedule to be worked out just like they want it, they'd have to put out 80,000 schedules.

keller/ween/ben harper overlapping makes me want to cry. 3 of the top 5 reasons im decided to go this year. they all have similar if not the same fanbase and you would think a large music festival would know this. wow this is a hard decision but ween wins, hopefully there a little bit spread out so i can catch some of each. why bonnaroo why

A contraction of the words Bonnaroo and Conflict. I thought it was funny.
Technically, it is a portmanteau, not a contraction. Regardless, I liked it.
No., technically it is just a blend not a portmanteau, but i like it too ("portmanteau" is now generally resevred for blends that serve double meanings as well)

String Cheese V. Black Keys (going with Black Keys)
Flaming Lips V. Govt Mule (going with Mule)
SuperJam V. White Stripes (got to go with SuperJam espicially since ?uestLove will probably drum for it)
Ween V. Keller Williams (No doubt in mind, Ween)
Like Mobileroo says though, look at what you will get to see, when I take that into account, who cares about what I miss, I'll get to see so much more.

My only real concern is with DJ Shadow and STS9 playing at the same time. I'm a long-time Shadow fan but, have yet to see him live! I just discovered STS9 but, REALLY dig them! I'm horribly torn! I keep weighing the pros & cons but, can't seem to make a decision! What really blows, is that my list of "must see"s is very short this year....and they're BOTH on it! Damn you, SuperFly!
Post by sweetvirginia on May 2, 2007 10:29:43 GMT -5
^^I wouldn't sweat that. STS9 is always on tour and you can see them in a million settings (and they will play forever that night.). Shadow plays how much and I'm putting money on El-P playing that set with Aesop. Then off to Sound Tribe and the festivites there... Now if Tortise is late night too.... F it. I won't go to anything. You saw where STS9 is doing re:generation in Asheville, right Oatmeal. That could take that conflict out for you.
