i know this is pretty much like ever other post that has been started in the past 2 days, but this is a general grouping of your thoughts on the lineup so far and bands you would like to see added. What do you think is going to be happening differently now that we own the farm?
I'm happy. It's going to have a hard time beating out last year's lineup, that's for damn sure, but i think it will build momentum.
i'd like to see The Mars Volta, My Morning Jacket, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Arcade Fire, and the Shins if they're up for it.

we really need a reggae addition with toots and public property , a hip hop addtion with cut chemist, wax tailor, the roots, and lyrics born....
and the necessities like Les,Trey,Umphreys, MMJ, Disco Biscuits, moe.
there's enough indi/alt rock for my liking already....i want some more diversity

i've heard rumor of the roots playing this year, i've always wanted to see them. it would also be cool to see del the funkee homosapien play, or cut chemist again.

Roomer schmoomer. The Roots are on the list.
And yes I am impressed with the initial lineup. So much so that I'm thinking of starting the Official I Love the Lineup and Ignore All the Other Petitions Petition.

I'm wondering if there is any credibility to the Wu-Tang rumors... I think they would be a great addition and definitely would add diversity. They put on a h*ll of a live show.
if wu tang showed up my mind would explode...but wu tang would have to be late night at or late evening or basically at night..and there are soo many bands that could do night as it is....

i really like the lineup. i mean there is bound to be several more awesome bands added and the lineup now is certainly not lacking. Bonnaroo here i come
The lineup's awesome, without a doubt. I don't think it's as diverse as last year's, but then it has a totally different feel to it. So far it's pretty much a jamband/hard rock festival which I'd like to see change a bit. They need more reggae, hip-hop and world beat. More jazz would help too, and a legitimately strong top end country act would help too (not Toby Keith or Tim McGraw, more like Willie Nelson or Steve Earle).
As for diversity, it's really hard to top last year's list. I saw Amadou & Mariam (Senegal), Seu Jorge (Brazil), Refugee All Stars (Sierra Leonne), The Streets (British Grime), Radiohead, Buddy Guy, Electric Eel Shock (Japan), Tom Petty, Devandra Banhardt, Dr. John & Night Tripper (albiet, hazily), Beck, Death Cab for Cutie and on and on and on...
I don't think this year's lineup quite has that expanse last year's lineup did. However, what it lacks in diversity, it makes up in sheer amount of guitar godness so far.
I know it is opinion and yes there needs to be some more additions but honestly I love this initial lineup. Last year we named all the bands we wanted to come next year (this year) and all of them are there: Widespread, Galctic, Ben Harper, NMA, Cheese...I mean the list continues. We are all stoked from this intial lineup.

I'm going to have to disagree with your statement in the first paragraph about it being a jamband/hard rock festival, there is quite a bit of country/bluegrass and electronica too, so I'd say they're doing a pretty good job of keeping the eclectic influence in the lineup too.

ya id have to agree too. its pretty weak on jam. seems like they just cut and pasted 1/4th of wakarusas lineup in with a couple of 10klf acts. looks like jam is more of an afterhthought this year. imho.
I am not very impressed with the initial line up. The Police is nice. It isn't nearly as special as a One-Shot reunion like Rage Against the Machine at Coachella. I think Tool is a poor choice as a headliner, their music doesn't fit, and they don't attract attention like a group like Radiohead. People can say what they want about Tool, but I have seen them live, and it was a disappointment to me. I hope there are some serious additions, or I probably will save my cash and just go see a bunch of local shows this summer.
while i wasn't disappointed, it definitely caught me off guard at first. after i let it marinate in my brain for a while and really dissected it (imagining days & set times for artists etc) it grew on me rapidly. now im firmly convinced that with a few key additions i could be even more excited than last year (possible?)
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

I loved last year. Great lineup, and particularly excellent headliners. With that said, I think the shear breadth of quality this year makes this the best lineup yet. There are so many bands I want to see I don't know where to start.
The Police Tool White Stripes Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals Wilco Flaming Lips Franz Ferdinand Bob Weir and Rat Dog Ween Ziggy Marley The Decemberists Kings of Leon The Black Keys DJ Shadow Gillian Welch Sasha and John Digweed STS9 Old Crow Medicine Show The Hold Steady Hot Chip Aesop Rock Tortoise Cold War Kids Brazilian Girls Girl Talk Tea Leaf Green The National
and that's not even counting comedians...
Last year I was interested in the following bands
Radiohead Tom Petty Phil and Friends Beck Elvis Costello Death Cab for Cutie Bright Eyes Bela Fleck Ben Folds Common Robert Randolph Dr. John My Morning Jacket Cat Power MMW Atmosphere Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks Clap Your Hands say Yeah Rusted Root Sasha Blackalicious Magic Numbers The Streets Dungen Andrew Bird dios (malos)
There are already 27 bands in the initial lineup this year that I want to see, compared with 26 overall last year. So I guess this year has the potential with a few additions to surpass 2006 handily in its eclectic nature.

i hear what your sayign and i agree. i'd love some jam that you can't get anywhere else. maybe in the additions
I love the initial line up and would be happy to go even if there were no additions. With that said, I will be more than happy to see what crazy surprises wait around the corner of the next 4 months.
I won't lie - I'm not familar with at least half the bands listed. I'm sure they will be good, but there is something to knowing the music. Yes, I will do my best to check out the more interesting bands...but I don't have that "OMG" feeling I had with last year's lineup.
The Police - okay, that's pretty cool, but I only know the really popular songs that were on the radio years ago.
The thing is, I still want to go, since I know I'll have a good time. But now I really want to check out other festivals...
you know, i'm not going to complain its just that i was so blown away by last year's line up that i think i got a little spoiled. my favorite band (radiohead) whom i had never seen live, plopped in the middle of a field 30 minutes from where i live. another guy that was in my cd player for a solid two months (beck) was there. and who doesn't get excited for tom petty?
this year i'm doing more research on lesser known bands and i'm still going to enjoy myself.

While last year was stellar, the only headliner I was excited about was Radiohead. Petty is a sing along good time I guess, but I have seen him 3 times before, and he always plays a greatest hits. His songs are fun, but that's it.
Comparing this year to last, I am 50 times more excited this year.
The Police are much much better/more exiting to me than Petty. TOOL while not on par with Radiohead, is still a damn awesome band. I hated Joan last year with Phil. She took over the show too much. I know for a fact that I will like the WSP show ten times better than Phil's.
So overall on just headliners, I am much more excited.
To make this year hands down, I will need to get two stellar late nights again like last year (MMJ and Superjam). With bands like:
The Flaming Lips (Party!) Wilco Superjam (something that is a one off would be better than last years predetermined band thing) Gov't Mule (Warren and Friends would rock!) and the artist additions to come. At least a few of the band I would love to see late night will be added (The Mars Volta, MMJ, Modest Mouse, Sigur Ros, Arcade Fire, etc.)
I know the late nights will not dissapoint this year.
