I just wanted to say hello to everyone....I lurk, usually this time of year when I am getting ready for Roo. The girly fashion thread is one of my favs! I owe you all so much. Without this thread I never would have thought to wear bike shorts under my skirts. Thanks to you all!

Haha, hi krispiemae! Welcome!
Girls, it just occurred to me that I don't think I actually mentioned the good news in this thread...I'M GOING TO ROO! I finally worked up the nerve to ask for time off and the people in charge apparently had no problem with it. In fact my boss really, really wants to come so he might be joining me if he can take time off too...he's taking another week off later in the summer so he's not sure.
I'm so psyched to know that I can definitely go! And now I'm sort of panicked because it's less than a month away and I feel like I have a lot to do. I really need to keep myself from buying clothes because I really don't need more dresses and I really shouldn't spend money on such things. I may need shoes though...last year in the mud I ended up having to wear my Tevas all weekend and that was really not fun so I might have to try to get something else. Sort of tempted to just buy some Nomadic State sandals at Roo if it rains.
i am a long-time lurker to inforoo--and more specifically this thread. bonnaroo 2010 will be my first bonnaroo, and i am so excited! i've bought one dress and i have a few others i'm going to bring.
i was wondering what kind of sunscreen everyone uses. i'm indian so i have dark skin and don't burn too badly, but i do want to take care of myself! any recommendations? i already use an SPF 15 moisturizer for my face, but i think i'm gonna need something a lil bit stronger!
also, i was wondering what you ladies thought about wearing gladiator sandals to the roo! i have a few pairs which are all really comfortable, but i feel like that comfort might wear off. i don't like to wear crocs or tevas because of the texture. i'm wondering what other options i have!
Do know there is like NO shade in Centeroo, no hills, no buildings to block the sun. You will be in full southern sun for hours at a time. I am not one to burn but I slather myself in SPF 30 while there and I still leave with a dark tan. I love the Coppertone Sport mist spray because you don't have to rub it in. Your hands will be dirty, your skin dusty, rubbing in suntan lotion is grody.
As for shoes, I have worn boots (similar to Frye Harness, with a nice added insole for cushiness) and Crocs only in Centeroo, and Reef flops at camp. I personally preferred the boots to the Crocs because I didn't get my feet all dirty. They are lined in that sherpa stuff so it keeps you from getting hot and sweaty. I put waterproofing on them and they held up at '08 like champs. Also I love the look of rugged boots with sundresses!
^I adore shoes like that and Tevas but they don't love me. I must have an unusually short pair of pinky toes - they always end up peeking out of the straps or running under one and end up being miserable. Le sigh. This is why I end up with ugly Crocs. They are baby pinky toe friendly.
I was just wondering what you girls think of these Sanuk tubeflops. Cute or ridiculous? I think they'd be really cute for night time.
Edit: Not necessarily this color. They have several different colors to choose from.
not gonna lie. i love these. a lot. like, a lot a lot. i dont really know how you would clean them??? like - obviously the socks would occasionally need to be washed i guess? that'd be the only thing id check into before wearing to Roo... look great for nighttime wear! but you KNOW you'd have to clean those suckers when you got home

I had the Neutrogena cooling spray sunblock last year too and I'd definitely recommend it. I can tell you from experience in 2007 - you do NOT want the normal lotion sort of sunblock that you have to rub in. Ick, SO GROSS. The spray stuff is great. And Target makes a store brand that's pretty much exactly the same - it'll be in the same place on the shelf and you can tell by looking that it's meant to be a direct alternative to the Neutrogena stuff - so if you want to save a couple bucks Target might be a good place to go.
And I too think those shoesockthings are cute, but having them be connected seems unnecessary and troublesome. Like mayo said idk how you'd keep them clean. I tend to bring footless tights so that I can pull them on under a skirt (or...tutu ;D) and wear them with flipflops. The knee sock thing is super cute but I think I'd be more tempted to try to make 'em myself...like buy normal knee socks and cut half of the foot off so they'd be wearable with any flipflops. The only issue would be finding a way to hem off the cut edge that would look okay and be comfortable.

My second year, I would start off the day (after my trough-shower) with lotion and then reapply in Centeroo with spray. Really saved the amount of spray I would go through - it's so expensive!
But yeah, cannot emphasize enough how you don't want to have to rub lotion with your dirty hands onto your dirty body. It's impossible to stay clean once you're inside Centeroo.
omg that dress is so cute! the best part is that if you got it there.....there wont likely be a million of them just like that one. i agree about the maxi dress. im short and they make me look like a gnome.
i also agree on bringing more than one pair of shoes. your best friend shoes can punk you at roo. i took some GREAT shoes to lolla one year and they about killed me. i was happy that i brought another pair.
as for the stocking sandals....the sock doesnt look like it goes under the foot so i dont think it would be as bad as you think. i wear the footless tights under boots and then wear a sock on my foot. the cotton sock is much more breathable than the tight. the tights last much longer and i can just rinse them out at night since they dont go under my foot. if that is made my sanuk my guess is that they dry really fast. sanuk is really big on things that can be rinsed and which dry fast.
i have some sanuk suede thong sandals. omg they are sooooo comfortable. i wore them only in the house because ithought that they would be "done" when i had to wash them ....but i found that they were easy to hand wash and then they dried fast. the suede looks fine on them. i wont take them to roo because i dont think they would survive the mud but they hold up much better than i thought they would.
and welcome new people including the dude. we need a dude opinion and we have some guys who offer great tips on here.
as for sunscreen....its funny because i like to wear mascara and some lip tint but i dont mind walking around with visible sun lotion on my face. hahahahaha. i use banana boat for faces only. i actually use it year round under my makeup. at roo i slather it on. if you use it sparingly it will go undermakeup but at roo i dont care and i put it on thick and leave it on. last year i did take some tinted sunscreen made by wet and wild. it was like 2.99 and it had a high sun block. my thinking was that i would see when it came off since it was tinted. this didnt work however because there are no mirrors at roo. hahahahahah so i ended up just using the banana boat. if you have a problem with sunscreen getting in your eyes then i would advise you to get sunscreen for babies. it might not be matte like the banana boat is that i wear under my makeup but it wont melt and get into your eyes.
once again...not for roo but for summer. if you have not tried the new adjustable foundation from wet and wild please try it for summer. it goes on white and adjusts to your skin. its cheap and you literally cannot see it setting on your skin. i switched to it from bare minerals because it covers better right now and looks more natural in summer sun. you guys might want to try it.
also.....i bought some mens white tshirts the other day (not for roo) and they came with some new speed stick that wont yellow your white shirts. im excited to try it because i wear a lot of white tops. ill post back and let you know if it works.

There is a whole thread on sunscreen somewhere on here. My friends and I have used a bunch of them, and the best by far for Roo, is the Neutrogena Cooling Mist Spray. I use SPF 15 moisturizer on my face and usually wear a hat.
fifimcfae I have olive skin and tan very easily, and don't really burn easily, but you will need at least SPF 30, if not 45 in the Bonnaroo sun. I have managed to get some degree of burn every year.......

Hello ladies, I'm new here and this is my 1st 'roo. I love the ideas so far. Like some of the other ladies here I have a large chest(34F) so it hard to find cute dresses. But I deff like the idea of getting some cute bras and not worrying about them showing.
Say hey johnny boy, the battle call United we stand, divided we fall Together we are what we can't be alone We came to this country you made it our home

Hey girls (and guys?). I'm new here too, but I've been lurking these boards since I bought my ticket a couple months ago. First Roo, beyond excited! I ordered these Sanuks awhile back: www.6pm.com/sanuk-mosaic-pink And they're very, very comfortable and cute too for $17! 6pm.com is pretty awesome, I've found a lot of good deals on there. I also got a very light weight, dip dyed looking dress at Walmart for $10 the other day, pretty cute on and for $10 I don't care if it gets ruined. Gotta love Walmart and Target for cheap dresses!
I have big boobs and it is a PITA to find cute sundresses but this year I am sort of letting things hang loose. Yeah, not going to wear a stretchy jersey spaghetti strap dress or one of those smocked-elastic top strapless numbers, but I have two lightweight cotton maxi dresses that have criss-cross adjustable straps, and empire waistband and a seamed/shaped bust area so the gals aren't hanging out all over, but honestly aren't as supported if I was wearing a proper bra. Eh, my husband says I look hot but not too boobalicious. I wore one to see MMJ a couple weeks ago - it was a very hot sweaty night and I was in GA and I was super comfortable in it. If I could find 2 more dresses in this concept (shaped bust area, empire waist to properly separate boobs from rest of torso, cotton instead of jersey, adjustable straps) I would be completely set for Bonnaroo!
Today I hope to get over to Ross to see if I can find some goodies. Though really I have work to do today and hanging on Inforoo and dreaming of Bonnaroo is not getting the work done any faster.

Wow katbur. That dress is gorgeous! And it looks really comfortable. I think I'm going to order a couple now. Hopefully I'll get them in time for Roo! Thanks for the link! :-)

Just got back from a trip to Target...somehow I managed to keep myself from buying too much stuff, even though there was one dress that I really wanted. Couldn't resist a tank for $4 though! But anyway wanted to mention that they have those tubes of glowsticks in the dollar section again...$1 for 15 glowsticks and 15 connectors. And they're assorted colors too! My glowsticks last year were the same ones but they were one color per pack so I had a tube of green and a tube of orange I think...so I'm excited to have more different colors this year.

Nope, I barely got out of the clothing department! And my job's going really well! I love it so much. Although sadly my boss decided he can't take time off so he can't come with me to Roo.

You are so welcome and getting them in time should be no problem. I ordered mine on a Sunday and they were at my house on Wednesday. I ordered another dress from Overstock and it still hasn't arrived.
holy crap they have great prices and i didnt know that sanuk made boots. im totally buying some boots for next season!
Me too! They're so cute.
Also wanted to mention that Target.com has bikini tops on clearance right now. Probably at the store too, but I haven't had a chance to stop in there. I so wish I could pull off those tiny triangle tops, but my boobies just won't allow it. But for you small girls, they have cute ones for $5. I think I'm going to order this one: www.target.com/Merona-Black-White-Athltic-racrbk/dp/B001MSUKCM/ref=huc_ic_1_pn It's pretty blah looking and reminds me of a sports bra I already have, but I figure it won't dig into my neck plus it will dry faster than the sports bra. I'm sort of at a loss about what to wear for a bra at roo. I want to be comfortable...
