Bring a bigger bag then you need, and toss it all back in there at the end of the weekend, if you can fit the bigger bag in the car. Thats a perk of driving solo, get to throw all my shit in the back seat.

there are so many beautiful people at bonnaroo
if you don't know how or have never been compelled to dance at concerts or public gatherings, bonnaroo is a wonderful place to let loose your self-consciousness and try it out
oh, yes, and clear, spray-on sunscreen is a great blessing.
oh i LOVE that stuff, came in very handy and i was able to spray some friends as well
oh, yes, and clear, spray-on sunscreen is a great blessing.
Yes, it is. Especially since w00ks tend to not bring essentials, when they ask for sunscreen, with spray-on, you don't even have to touch them. Big plus.

Wait you get to drive alone no fair... control of the radio, climate, car and camp site all to yourself... I take that back it would be lonely... So ok for a first time rooer... how many is too many for a carpool and for a caravan how many is too many cars as far as the logistics go... I think so far we have tentatively four in the car and three cars in the caravan

haha soooo true trix! but, luckily, hairy ol' w00ks shouldn't have much bare skin as it is
i'm going where the sun keeps shining, thru' the pouring rain, going where the weather suits my clothes. backing off of the north east wind, sailing on summer breeze, and skipping over the ocean like a stone.

this is especially true if you wear sandals/any kind of open footwear. as you walk around, your feet will probably become the dirtiest part of you. if you are exposing your feet, you absolutely want to make sure they are thoroughly sunscreened, and there's nothing worse then trying to rub the sunscreen lotion on dirty feet...all that happens is you end up smearing the dirt around more and your hands get nasty on top of it. you definitely want the spray-on sunscreen for feet/lower leg application.

it really depends on how well everyone is able to execute. with the exception of 1 person in my group, all of us (about 12) were first timers to 'roo last year, and we came in a caravan of 5 cars with very few problems. i will say this much: unless you are bringing very large vehicles, you definitely don't want to pack too many people per car unless everyone is capable of bringing only bare necessities. if you try and bring everything that everyone on inforoo recommends you're going to end up with enough gear to overfill the most massive SUV. everyone does festivals differently so think hard about how you want to live for a few days and don't bring too much sh-t!
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
*A comment on this. Doubles: Two pairs of really good shoes Two hats(Max sun protection but very breathable.. I have short hair and my head can get HOT with a hat on) Two pairs of sunglasses(I bring my expensive pair and 2 cheap pairs.. I don't plan on losing the expensive pair, and I usually give 1 cheap pair away to someone who looks like they need it) Two shirts for each day(As someone said, if you plan to buy shirts don't pack a whole lot) Two lighters(I bring an entire PACK of lighters.. your lighter WILL get ganked and it will probably be an accident.. don't get worked up just pull out another and be prepared to lose it!) Two camera memory cards(I like disposables!) Twice as many batteries as you think you will use If you smoke cigs, bring twice as many cigs as you usually smoke in a weekend party setting(Bring a carton and give some away ) Two sets of car keys(Leave one tied up in a platic bag and tie the bag to something in your tent, don't plan on opening this bag until you are packing up)
Another comment, this worked really well for me at a festie I just got back from.. My dome tent has 4 "loops" on the inside about 3/4 of the way up for a gear loft.. instead of a gear loft I just tied supermarket plastic bags to each corner. They make it easy to organise stuff you will need often and will be difficult to find in the dark.
WHITE glowsticks are amazingly nice, I'm talking about the big kind. They can provide light in dark places and you'll avoid shining a bright flashlight in someones eyes.
*Note, I haven't been to 'roo, but from general festie experience this is what I do.
Since you'll be bringing a ton of bottled water, consider freezing it all entirely before you leave. All the melt will be self-contained and won't sog up your food. Then each day, choose an assortment of varying degrees of melteds for your backpack. The fully frozen ones will stay that way for much of the day, keeping your stashed centeroo beers chilled. The fully melted ones will be prime for early day chugging. And the half melted ones are great to sip from throughout the day as they melt.
Also, bring plenty to share. Offering a neighbor who has just set up his or her tent after travelling all night a piece of chilled fruit is a great way to kick things off right. Burn extra copies of some of your favorite shows so when you get in a conversation with a stranger about a mutually adored band, you can go "here is one of my favorite shows of theirs". Trade will bring out commodities that laugh at cash.

Oh yeah, and for the first-timers, make sure you grab your tent space! Me and my first time friend went last year, and when we got out of the car everyone was just setting stuff up left and right. We managed to get enough space for our little one-person tents as we could...he actually had never set a tent up before.
Basically, don't skimp on the tent, get out of the car and set up without shame (there's always enough space anyway), and they're not joking about it being cold on Thursday night in '06.
Put down the tarp, talk to EVERYONE around you, just to make sure you're not with some jerks who wanna steal stuff halfway through. In a small car, 4 was waaay too many people for us. This year, more people (like 7-12) are coming, and everyone is going 2 to a car. It should work out fine... just make sure your driving buddy has a license so you can take turns driving home (it's really really hard to do.)
Speaking of barter commodities, what are some other suggestions besides glowsticks? I have candy bracelets and glow bracelets already to bring for "throws" as we call 'em from our Mardi Gras days. Anything else good?

I know that a group of 23 cars made it thru the gate without being broken up, they taped signs to the windshield so that the parking attendants would know they were a group.

I vote to have this thread sticky, whos with me on this one. I for real have had more answers for my questions on this one thread than I have had studying these forums the last few weeks. Karma to everyone if I could do that.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

a lot of these threads are getting redundant. i guess its inevitable as we get closer and closer to 'roo that as more and more people join inforoo and start posting that many of the same threads are going to be re-created, and the same discussions be re-had but i guarantee you that all these things being said have been said already, just spread out more in other threads.
i chuckle to myself as i go back page by page in each forum and see the same conversations, sometimes by different people and sometimes by the same ones even. oh well, i guess its more efficient than expecting the mods or others to constantly search out existing threads and post links to 'em.

*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

This kind of combines the advise from several people above: The first thing I do when I get out of my car is pull out the tarp/canopy and start talking to my neighbors. It tends not to be a fight for space if you're already getting along with them. After you're set up, offer to help others around you. Again, starting off on the right foot with the neighbors should be one of the first things on your mind.
