i feel like the next few, at least that i know relatively well, should be Hamilton, Federer, Ruth, because they all inarguably have multiple competitors within their own sport (and in the case of Ruth and Federer, have both been surpassed)

Ruth shouldn’t go out early imo. Being GOAT has an icon element in addition to actually being good. Like you can argue that Barry Bonds was better but no one gives a fuck about him like they do Babe Ruth and that matters. (Babe Ruth was also really fucking good)
Some of these athletes are in specialized sports that a lot of developing countries don't have access to train in. I can't really take Michael Phelps and Simone Biles seriously amongst some of these other names.

Those swimmers and gymnasts can do things that these other athletes could never do.
Not trying to change your vote as I do not know much about Lewis Hamilton, but you should check out some of the science behind modern driving. The demands on their body and the reaction times needed are insane.

Being good at golf at Tiger's level requires a certain amount of athletic prowess that regular old rich white guys that play for fun just don't have. But generally agreed that Tiger probably shouldn't crack the top 10.
