Very tough , so I’m listing more :
1. Pretty Lights ( Thursday) - Made it the best Thursday I’ve ever had on the Farm in 13 turns.
2. IDLES - One of the best and most energetic late nights in my Roo history. If you were there, then you know.
3. Whyte Fang - Alison is the Queen, and this set proved it. Again, if you were there, then you know. Absolutely incredible.
4. Khruangbin- Made it into the pit with the whole crew for this one and it was very special.
5. Fred Again…… - Say what you will, but I thought he was the perfect closer. That sing a long at the end got the crew a little emotional. I will say, this would have hit better and different on Saturday night and let the Peppers close with that slog that they did.
6. Roisin Murphy- In all my Roo’s , one of my biggest surprises ever. Simply amazing.
7. Infinity Song- Add this to the surprise list. Really really good!
8. Knock2- brought the energy needed after that Whyte Fang set.
9. Mars Volta - Incredible energy. Great late night set.
10. Jon Bastie - Wow
Honorable Mention:
11. Pretty Lights Sunrise
12. Mdou Moctar
13. Shy FX
One of the best years of all my years.
Least amount of music I’ve ever seen, but saw a TON of quality stuff.
Great weekend! Only complaint is the poop smell on the What during the headliners but thats whatever. Sound volume was off for a few shows but luckily it wasnt for any of the bands I saw.
1. Jon Batiste - food for the soul. If he had been a late night set instead I think it woulda been an all-timer for me.
2. Fred Again.. - he gets talked about enough but like, this is why. This is now my fifth time seeing him and its still special every time. Only complaint is like finchdaddy said, the fact that he was the closer to the fest. That positive energy would been great heading into LN Sat. / Sun
3. Pretty Lights (sunrise > thurs) - The main stage first round was my favorite of the weekend, but the sunrise set ended so perfectly and warmly that I was kinda mesmorized.
4. Chappell Roan - Enough said. Whole crowd was jumping.
5. Khruangbin - First time seeing them and just thought the whole show was tight and the grooves were groovin. The tracer ai visuals gave it a really psychedelic vibe that I thought was cool.
6. Parcels - dance party of the weekend for sure.
7. Durand Bernarr - Group therapy.
8. Four Tet (the 38 minutes we got at least) - I have a video of his last 2 minutes before he got kicked off and its sadly comical how amped up the crowd was getting for that rain before the plug was pulled. Gonna have to catch him at lolla no because that was sweet
9. Japanese House - she actually sounded much better than I thought she would based on live videos ive watched on youtube. great setlist too
10. Ethel Cain - She def scratches that lana del rey itch a bit.

Top 10 is always hard but I'll give it a shot.
1. Pretty Lights Thursday I gotta give his live set the love it deserves. Made it the best Thursday for many people as was showing in the crowd. Did pit for the whole show. Saw Teddy, Todd, Esteban, Snowman and probably some others in the pit which was easily accessible despite a sizeable what stage crowd.
2. Pretty Lights Sunrise This dude is just amazing, there nothing else like it in my mind. Wasn't planning to be up close and smack in the middle of a sea of people beforehand but ended up spending the whole show there. Sun came up way too fucking early.
3. JRAD Man oh man, did I dance my ass off. Some shows just demand you to be silly and this one gave me all the freedom to do just that. BONNAROO HAS TO BOOK MORE JAM!
4. Parcels Went into this show still unsure if I should've been at Idles. That doubt went away quickly. A bunch of jetlagged Australians were definitely in the mood to play for this crowd which was the 2nd craziest I've seen this year.
5. Jon Batiste Again a What show where I was easily able to go pit thanks to Ambassador of Fun's recommendation. I didn't stay for the whole show since I wanted to see Sean Paul as well but this man can sing. Not sure what the weird antenna headphones were for but I'm all for it.
6. Shy FX Such a great set yet such a small crowd. Was it too hot, was everyone at Key Glock or TV Girl? I don't know but they all missed some good dnb.
7. Aeon Mode Haven't seen them mentioned much but for a WITW set, scheduled on Wednesday I was impressed. Shoutout to whoever designs that stage.
8. Frayne Vibez at Galactic Giddy Up Felt like I had to put him in my top 10. It wasn't necessarily his music but more of the vibes. I was chilling in the grove, still buzzing from the PL sunrise set and suddenly this groovy music started playing which got me into the right mindset for 1 more day which felt rough at that time.
9. Fred Again.. Feel a little bad for placing him this low. Maybe one of the more talented musicians on the farm this year. Music and show was amazing. I was just tired at that point. Please don't book EDM anymore on Sunday.
10. No one Too many artists I could put here that were still amazing and don't deserve last placement. Brittany Howard, Roisin Murphy, Cage, Khrunaghting, and many more.
All in all, had a blast yet maybe my least favorite time on the farm from the four times I've been. Maybe I'm just getting older, maybe I should VIP or RV, maybe it was too hot, who know. Bonnaroo always sets the bar high, this lineup wasn't the best yet it blew away my expectations musically which just I should trust what they book.

Pretty Lights Thursday JRAD TMV Key Glock Neal Francis Comes Alive Mdou Moctar Khruangbin (wish I could have stayed longer, but going to JRAD was worth it) Parcels - when it was good it was great. felt like a few stumbles but overall really solid set Pretty Lights sunrise Say She She
HM: Cage the Elephant - probably one of the biggest surprises for me. went to kill time and it was way, way better than I thought it would be
feel like there were moments of other things that were really good, but I was just popping in to check it out for a few songs. Other moments that because of heat or just exhaustion I was struggling and not really there mentally (Irreversible Entanglements, BBNG, Jon Batiste) and stuff I just missed because I decided to leave early Sunday (GSBG, Isbell - seen both plenty of times, and would have been great, but between rain delay and facing a solo drive home decided to call it).

1. Fred again.. - have been waiting a couple years to see him and was blown away. Was a perfect Sunday closer for me this year
2. Pretty lights Thursday - great choice to be the first one on what stage for a Thursday. Incredible set was my first time seeing him (other than watching streams always)
3. Cage the elephant - huge fan, they always put on a great show in my opinion. One of only three shows are whole 23 person croo was at as well which made it even more special (Fred again, cage, and khruangbin were the others)
4. Khruangbin - didn't know what to expect here and was completely mind fucked
5. Shyfx - what a fucking legend
6. Parcels - was tough knowing I was going to miss idles but man did this show ever make up for it. What a dance party
7. The beaches - something about good early morning sunday sets always stick with me. I tend to go very hard and see as many shows as I can the last day and these girls were rocking out. Also seen them tons (local to me) and was so happy to see them at the farm
8. Eggy - awesome start to the festival for me
9. Sean Paul - thought this would be mainly backing track and nothing too special but he brought the heat!!
10. The Mars Volta - fuck they shred, set was way to under attended in my opinion.
Hm: half moon run, geese (galactic giddy up), post Malone, chase and status, Greensky bluegrass, Neal Frances
1. Pretty Lights (Set 1 Thursday night) - So I was only planning on watching the first 30 minutes of this show before getting a spot for BigXthaPlug. Just wanted to see the spectacle of the first Thursday headliner on the What Stage. Heard Teddy Flair got rail in the pit and we decided we'd try to see if we could walk right in too. We ended up getting right behind him and I knew this would be a hard set to walk away from. I decided that Pretty Lights > Geese > Militarie Gun > GWAR > Roisin Murphy would be a ridiculously good and diverse run of music. I just want to say that this ended up being a GOATED Thursday. Pretty Lights has really stepped it up since the last time I saw them in 2014. I remember thinking "I remember Pretty Lights being good, but I don't remember them being THIS good". Hearing Hot Like Sauce and the Nirvana/Radiohead/NIN mashup brought back some core memories.
2. The Garden - Certain shows just bring out this primal energy in me and this was one of those shows. Any show where I can mosh, dance, and generally be a goofball is a great show for me. Felt reunited with "my people" and was able to ride the energy of this show into the last 20 minutes of Knock2 with Jake Jortles getting down to some nasty dubstep beats. Something about high-energy punk shows is where I find myself and my confidence to take on the rest of the night.
3. Fred Again - I did not realize that Fred could go this hard. This show was like a concert movie where literally every single person in the audience is dancing their ass off with a big smile on their face. I was constantly in awe at how incredible the vibes were. Some people were skeptical at an EDM artist closing out the festival but I think it was perfect to end the weekend with a big dance party. I'm over the "old dudes with guitars have to close out the weekend" mindset. If RHCP closed out Sunday with that mid booty cheeks show they did on Saturday that would've been depressing as hell. I couldn't think of a more perfect song to end Bonnaroo with than Billie (Loving Arms).
4. Interpol - Got second row for the first half of this show and ended up getting rail because the person in front of me left. Apparently I made it onto the live stream a bunch of times. Hearing Antics in its entirety was very special. Wish we got Roland (like we did at Shaky Knees) or Stella Was a Diver but you can't win them all. There was a really cute camera girl that was obviously a huge fan and her job was basically to just film the guitar player. She was dancing along to every song and waving to the band members. You could tell this was a dream come true for her so that was also really cool to see.
5. Parcels - Was only planning on watching 30 minutes of this show before heading to Idles but the vibes were just too immaculate. When he said "this is one of only two US shows we're playing this year" I knew I had to stay. Bonnaroo went out of their way to get a unique late night show so I felt it was more important to stay for this than to leave and see a band I've already seen before.
6. The Mars Volta - This band is just so fucking incredible. Only filled up half the tent but sometimes that just makes the show feel more special. I was feeling a little bit down but when this show started I was brought back to life.
*7. Yves Tumor - Another show where I was reunited with my stinky people. I love Sunday because we're all so dirty and disgusting but we're all on the same page at this point. Everyone is comfortable with each other. The difference between the vibes during the day on Friday and Sunday is so different. Yves had a small but very enthusiastic crowd. They're a bit of a diva but the show didn't go completely off the rails. At one point they didn't like how the cameraman missed a good shot so they asked the audience who wanted to come on stage and work the camera. A few people rushed the barricade and the show could've ended right there. Needless to say, Bonnaroo didn't actually let an audience member work the camera, and they actually stopped filming all together after this incident. I've heard Yves lip syncs but they were clearly singing most of the time. There was backtrack in some of the bigger sing-along choruses but it's not like they were trying to keep that a secret to the audience.
8. Taking Back Sunday - Okay so was this a GREAT show? No it wasn't. Adam is not a good singer and they put way too much mid in between their bangers. HOWEVER, their bangers are such a core part of who I am. There was a guy who desperately wanted to get the pit open but the pacing of the show was too weird for the energy to be right. But once Error Operator came on I was like "okay now let's go!" and was literally directing people to come to the pit. At one point the guy I opened the pit with was like "we can't get old and soft!". I feel ya brother. At one point Adam was rambling for such a long time and I looked to the people around me and was like "I just need him to play a banger". Well then they played Cute Without the E and a big dude picked me up and crowd-surfed me against my will. I was like "no I don't want to crowd surf it's okay!" but the next thing I knew I was in the air, so I just went with it and I'm very happy I did.
9. GWAR - This show was just so ridiculously intense both on stage and in the pit. Very satisfying seeing Netanyahu getting torn apart. Going from this to the last 30 minutes of Roisin Murphy was a very "Bonnaroo moment" and the kind of diversity I want to see at this festival.
10. Geese - I fucking love this band. Before Pretty Lights and this show, I honestly thought maybe the magic of Bonnaroo had worn off for me. But once I was here and was able to mosh to a couple of their moshable songs it occurred to me "man I'm at a really cool festival with some really cool music".
Special shout out to Four Tet. This show would have been in my top ten if it hadn't been cut off. I'm so pissed Bonnaroo didn't let him go on stage again after the "extreme weather incident". They could have easily pushed Fred Again back since the main stage can go until 12am. We were about to have a very special moment in the rain but I guess we just weren't allowed to have that. However, the 30-40 minutes that he could play was ridiculously fun even in the heat.
Also shout out to: Mdou Moctar Shy FX Brittany Howard Armand Hammer Irreversible Entanglements Militarie Gun Dan Spencer what I could stay awake for Pretty Lights sunrise Roisin Murphy Kasablanca what I could catch of the emo superjam (It was very funny looking around and not seeing a single person under 30 at this show)
Edit: well after reading this post I should probably put Yves out of my top 3. I still had fun but this is shitty https://www.reddit.com/r/bonnaroo/comments/1djmkyo/am_i_alone_in_being_upset_about_yves_tumor/
Last Edit: Jun 20, 2024 15:31:06 GMT -5 by Tony - Back to Top
1. Jon Batiste 2. JRAD 3. The Mars Volta 4. Infinity Song 5. Pretty Lights (Thurs, fell asleep an hour before sunrise set) 6. Superjam (went on a whim, had a ton of fun since the crowd knew and loved every song, huge singalong even if not my favorite genre) 7. The Beaches 8. Mdou Moctar 9. Cigarettes After Sex (missed the first two songs and a half of the third exiting the Superjam during the last song and walking to the Which pit, would be higher had I seen the full set) 10. Houseplant
HM: Grouplove - I missed 2/3 of this show because a friend of mine had finally made it to Bonnaroo after having to miss Thursday for a funeral so I left to meet her at Jamktrak, show her our camp in base camp, and head back in with her. What we saw was lots of fun. The Maine - I saw them from the What Pit only because it’s the place with the most shade in Centeroo and I didn’t want to head back to camp right after walking in for Infinity Song. They put on a great show even if I wouldn’t listen to them outside of that setting. Eggy Galactic Giddy Up - I was really looking forward to them Thursday but after setting up camp at 1 it took me a few hours to get motivated to walk to Centeroo. Saw the last 30 minutes of the campground set as a consolation.
We also left Sunday during Chappell Roan after watching the first two songs from the back because two of the group had to work Monday and the two of us who were staying another night decided AC sounded great by Sunday morning.
1. Jon Batiste 2. Chappell Roan 3. Maggie Rogers 4. Neal Francis’ Francis Comes Alive 5. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit 6. Cage the Elephant 7. Carly Rae Jepsen 8. Brittany Howard 9. Gary Clark Jr. 10. The Heavy Heavy
This largely looks like my top 10 most anticipated list with the exception of The Heavy Heavy. I liked what I’d heard from them prior to Roo, but they were really great live. They jammed more than I expected.
Yeah. You repped for that Batiste set and I think Nasti did too. I planned to split it but I couldn’t leave after it got going. Nice little b2b with he and Brittany sets.
Yeah Tony I didn’t think Fred could go that hard either. Any time I watched streams it was okay but on the pop side and relatively soft. I was out of my skull by then but the core memory I have was thinking okay this is pretty damn hard. Bass is hitting and it’s kinda good. I didn’t rank Fred because of mental acuity issues from that time. But I’d welcome the chance to see him again if I knew he was going to do what he did at Bonnaroo.
I did a lot of discussion each day in the lineup thread, so I will just list here my top 10 (and the next 10):
Several sets in my second 10 might’ve made the top 10 if I had been able to see the whole thing (noted below when it wasn’t complete). Also, I’m loving the Jon Batiste appreciation from everyone!
Overall top 10:
1. Idles 2. Chappell Roan 3. Jon Batiste 4. Mars Volta 5. Jason Isbell 6. RHCP 7. TV Girl 8. Interpol 9. Geese 10. Yves Tumor
Next 10: 11. Say She She 12. Fred Again.. (missed 1st 20 min for Isbell) 13. Brittany Howard (left 10 min early for Batiste) 14. Faye Webster 15. Neal Francis 16. Mdou Moctar 17. Roisin Murphy (1/2 set) 18. Baby Queen 19. Nation of Language (1/2 set) 20. Pretty lights (Thurs) - 75 min total
Where we stand not using official method. Arch will be the final word, so this is just a freehand update. I assigned 1 point for #10, 2 for #9 so on to 10 for #1.
1. PL Thursday (114) 2. Fred. Again (54) Tie Batiste (54) 4. Parcels (51) 5. Khruangbin (49) 6. Chappell Roan (40) 7. Idles (39) 8. Joe Russo's Almost Dead (36) 9. Cage (34) Tie The Mars Volta (34) 11 - PL Sunday (30) 12 - Roisin (26)
1. Fred Again.. -what a vibe 2. The Mars Volta - absolutely ripped 3. Parcels - a party time 4. Ethel Cain - blissful 5. Nation of Language - so good 6. Pretty Lights Thursday - crushed it! 7. Faye Webster - so chill 8. Irreversible Entanglements - wonky yet wonderful 9. Interpol - played the hits at the end 10. Carly Rae Jepsen/Pretty Lights sunrise - CRJ would have been higher but that bunk weather stoppage. I like that he said it was going to get experimental. HM: Ashnikko - had it bumping for a bit

LOVE that PL Thur / Fred / Khruangbin / IDLES !!!! and Roisin are all getting love , because they were hands down my favs of the weekend, BUT.....
the lack of Whyte Fang love baffles me. That was hands down the best EDM set of the weekend ( besides Fred).
I barely saw any EDM. Wed chase & status. Svdden was okay while I was waiting for the next show. Same for Knock2 . I thought Pl Derek and then Derek and Menert in the middle of sunrise set was the best EDM I saw. WF was during Cage which I think many more people who ranked so far were at based on the love Cage is getting.
Yeah I had every intention of starting at Cage and moving to Whyte Fang when they started to suck but that never happened so I stayed
Same. It’s just a sing along party of mostly non annoying rock. Most people know at least a good bit of the lyrics. I admittedly panned it going in but maybe 4th or 5th time seeing them was still pretty fun. Kind of a party show I guess. Smoke some j’s and drink and sing.
Thursday and Sunday were great, but when you miss bad on half, especially for Friday and Saturday, it makes the festival feel off.
just messin around. I actually had a blast a Posty again. RHCP was the dud of the weekend though. Think I came in right during the run of unknown songs then left.
