Fun fact: Jalen Hurts's cap figure is so low because of magic. You might think it's because he'll be counting against the Eagles' cap for years after his contract is up, but you'd be mistaken. It is magic.
Formerly on track to be the greatest receiver of all time, Michael Thomas, will be a 6-1 cut. He was a tough motherfucker, but that might have been what did him in the last 3-4 years. He made the bank he earned but then couldn’t really ever come back. Hopefully he’ll find a quality role somewhere and cement a decent legacy.

13.5M is still an overpay for a fullback.
lol baker and cousins got 30 mil
Yes and Jalen got 250/5. Just because yall spread it out over seasons he's not even playing doesn't mean you're ultimately paying him less than those guys or contradict anything I said.
Baker beat yall in the playoffs two months ago lol.
Very interesting graph. The disparity between the teams on the wrong end (Giants, Browns, Raiders, Bears), and those who have had sustained success (Chiefs, Steelers, Patriots, Packers, etc.), is clear here. This illustrates what I've heard more and more lately: you have to draft well and find your stars that way, and then use free agency to fill holes (often short term).
It's hard to build a winner through free agency, even though making splashy moves to acquire proven players always feels good in the off season and excites fans. The lesser stars and second tier free agents may not fit their new teams or may eat a lot of salary while not continuing to produce, I guess. MLB teams can win by buying lots of expensive free agents, due to the lack of a real salary cap and big market teams having resources the smaller markets do not, but the Mets and even the Yankees can tell you that buying talent doesn't always work out.
Around here, we're optimistic that the Browns have the right coaches and front office staff in place to continue being relevant. The Watson trade is still an unknown elephant in the room but it looks like they may have turned the corner otherwise. The current GM has drafted better than his predecessors (WR is still a mystery to them), and the free agents he's signed have mostly been mid-tier or cheaper guys who have provided some good value. We've had a few smart additions and re-signings already. Our fortunes will be decided by whether we get vintage DeShaun Watson or a guy whose injuries and extended lack of game reps have completely derailed his career.

Honestly, I think the salary cap may be becoming more of a suggestion than a hard rule. Restructure this guy's contract and kick the can down the road, restructure anther guy next year, convert cap salary to signing bonus when you do so, rinse and repeat. That has it's limits, but when a team really wants to sign a guy, they figure out a way even if they don't seem to have a lot of cap space. Maybe the dollar figure is less of a question than getting adequate production throughout the entire life of a contract?
Maybe. But he’ll probably end up on the Raiders or Cowboys anyway if he plays. Maybe the Ravens. He was once the best. I saw we signed Cedrick Wilson. He’s kind of an enigma to me as I thought he’d do better after that good year in Dallas. But he didn’t do much in Miami. Maybe him Olave, Shaheed and AT Perry will be our top 4 receivers?

lol youre acting like hurts is some bottom tier qb. he accomplished more in his career than most active QBs already
draft nerds say we win this trade by math, but feel like we could be missing out on a really good defensive player by doing this. don't know how to feel!

IMO big win for the Texans. You still have 8 picks in this draft (2,2,3,4,4,6,7,7) and that Vikings 2nd rounder next year’s probably gonna be a 33-40 pick. You’ve added a lot in FA to your roster but you will still be able to get some impact rookies.

a timeline of the steelers offense decisions since Ben retired:
1. Canada was retained as OC after serving during ben's last year. he had never coached in the nfl before that. 2. sign mitch trubisky in free agency in 2022 3. draft kenny like six weeks later as a first rounder 4. start mitch 5. replace mitch in the 4th game with kenny 6. keep canada after 2022 7. fire canada midway through 2023 8. go from mitch to mason 9. ditch mason in the offseason, not even offering a contract 10. tell kenny he'll be in the qb competition 11. tell russ he'll be the starter so he signs with them 12. trades a first rounder for a late third round pick swap

they have no idea what they are doing
parts 9-12 all seem like good moves though. Pickett was awful and apparently kind of a baby about not being the starter even though he was awful
