Serious question yall. My brother had to miss Bonnaroo at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, and it really sucked because we’d been looking forward to it all year and he’s had a rough couple of months and Bonnaroo was gonna be a week where he’d be able to let it all go and relax and have fun and not think about all the stress he’s been under. I would really love to be able to go with him to another fest without having to wait an entire year, based on yall’s experience is there any other festival (preferably a camping fest but doesn’t have to be) that comes close to Bonnaroo vibe wise?

Maybe a bit more electronic but Okee is the only one I can think of if they bring it back. There are some small ones in Colorado and California maybe more jam side.

I've heard Shakori Hills is very similar vibes but only 3-5k attendance, looking like my partner is likely in for it so I'll let you know firsthand come October!

I don't like the lineup this year but Hula has amazing vibes. The year I went had MMJ and Khruangbin headlining so it probably wasn't quite as wooky as it can be. This year you'd have to be really into jam and electronic, but as far as vibes go that's the best alternative imo

This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

This was so easily my best Roo Sunday ever.
Armand Hammer - fire start. Played The Gods Must Be Crazy which isnt a sure thing. Good to see all of the highlights from a top 5 2023 album to kick things off.
Chappell Roan - The biggest moment set Roo has had since maybe Cardi B in 19? These songs were ringing off throughout the campgrounds all weekend leading up to the show. Felt like we were not at a crusty festival.
Yves - What a huge fucking win that last minute sched change was. Yves fucking destroyed. Heaven Surrounds was a huge highlight of the weekend. The band goes so hard that Yves only can ruin so much with sloppiness, but they were fine on the mic and the weirdo shit they did didnt hurt my enjoyment of the show thankfully.
Carly Rae Jepsen - Fantastic. Almost cried during Run Away with me which I thought was special but then I almost cried during Call Me Maybe and I realized it was probably the drugs lmao. I see people citing the weather delay as a set ruiner but I think it kinda added character.
Fred - So fucking fun. The way he built up Strong and let that fucker rip over the What Stage speakers. Leavemealone, stayinit… this is the type of shit Ive always wondered how great it would sound at that stage and it didnt dissapoint. Going ape shit with Jaz during the Moderat Frank mashup. Big group hugs all around for the last roo show ever.
Then we had our neighbors join us at the RV for a full chicken / beef / pork taco bar and just drank and jammed to parcels, chappell, roisin until 2:15am.
2016 sunday was actually pretty good with Cymande > Charles Bradley > Father John Misty > Death Cab > Ween > Dead and Co. but that day was very chill and pleasant where this one was very relevant and far more diverse.
2013 probably would have been better if I wasn’t a complete fucking idiot back then. Nothing else compares.
Writing this out makes me wonder if Jaz feels justified in the decision to come just for a day. I would guess yes?

Yeah I think so. I would have enjoyed Pretty Lights very, very much (and Parcels woulda been dope), but that wouldn't have been worth the extra financial and physical costs of an extra 3-4 days of festing. I will say that it was odd being there for one day, especially with it being Sunday - it didn't feel like Fred was closing out a weekend to me so the associated emotions of carrying the previous days of the festival weren't there. In some senses I felt like a visitor in my own home, and that was new. I'm glad I went though; I'm glad I got to see Chappell and Fred. But in retrospect I'd also have been okay not going. Don't know if I'll be back - I'm starting to feel as if I'm transitioning away from this part of my life, but I also don't know what's coming next. 2025 will be totally dependent on lineup and community. We'll see.
