if you were there what did you see? if you weren't there what would you see?
Rebelution > Bomba Estereo > Big Sam's Funky Nation > Nortec Collective > Isis (!!!) > The Melvins > The Dead Weather > Weezer > Stevie Wonder > Jay-Z > Deadmau5 > Bisco
i know many music festivals look better in hindsight yadda yadda but still what a sick day of music.
btw ISIS in this case is an awesome post-metal band, not the terrorist organization or the spy organization from Archer.
I remember being slightly bummed when this lineup dropped. But this was a good year. I started at Bomba Estereo, don’t remember exactly what I did right after but I saw Jimmy Cliff at 3:30 then some of The Melvins into Mumford & Sons into The Dead Weather into Weezer into Stevie Wonder into Jay z. Late night was Dan Deacon into GWAR.

Top tier day. No way I'm going to Weezer if Jeff Beck is playing though. Also that's kind of a tough split late. I like Dan Deacon enough but I probably would have partialed Jay-Z and then gone to Thievery Corporation with a short duck-out to see Clutch before heading to the Biscuits.

yeah circa survive -> isis -> the melvins -> jeff beck in a tent is so unbelievably rad. i would’ve made the dead weather a priority because that was one of the only times they toured, and not seeing stevie would’ve been a big miss, but being posted up at that tent would’ve been legendary
look at that: music started 2.5 hours earlier and lasted 2.5 hours longer in centeroo than it does now. set times longer across the board.
sick night. i skipped Jay Z to eat food and go to Thievery corporation and got weird at deadmau5>Bisco
I don't know about 2.5 hours earlier. Most music in centeroo starts around 1ish
from memory of this year's schedule i thought stuff started at 2 on Friday/Saturday. Took a quick look and some stuff starts at 1:15 and 1:30. but we have to remember the principle of peractorum per rosa colore specula. Everything looks better in hindsight. Also pretty sure that days were longer back then because of Obama.

Actually the days were shorter back then and longer now. Earth’s rotation is gradually slowing down due to the moon’s tidal forces, causing the days to increase by about 2 milliseconds per century. It’s a process you’d only notice over the course of millions of years, much like the evolution of crab-like body plans in non-crab crustaceans.

Ah, this was my first Roo and very first festival. Supa fun and an incredible lineup. I went with my then girlfriend and we had a neat trip en route, hanging in Tulsa with a psychic vampire wizard I met via YouTube. He had like four teeth and was morbidly obese with a massive cyst on his forehead. His partner had a fake pregnancy going on and we watched him time her "contractions" for the quadruplets allegedly growing inside her. It was bizarre but hilarious to talk about after.
This was also the last Roo my ex experienced outside of a terrarium (she devolved into a spider later that year) so the memories are a bit bittersweet. Lots of good times though. I still think about our tent full of flies in that Tennessee heat. How she made me call her daddy, long legs wrapped around me as we made love before Blues Traveler.
Anyway:
Brandi Carlile: I think we went to this. I was a mean boyfriend and talked crap about it until we left.
The Dead Weather: Wish the damn sun was dead that day!
Conan? We saw his show so it was either this day or the one before. I watched his show religiously growing up so this was very special for me. Conan was of course hilarious.
Weezer: Rivers, please can it! I saw them a few years later and it was one of the most fun things I've ever been to so kinda sucks that this was mediocre/bad.
Camp nap: Someone stole my girlfriend's camera from our site as we slept lolz. Didn't have it as bad as our neighbor who passed out during a poker game and had another neighbor rob him of $600. They got into a huge screaming match and started smashing up the thief's ride before the cops came.
Dan Deacon: Prob my all-time fav performer and I've seen him like a dozen times but this show was the worst one and a bit of a mess. Fun, but a mess. Shoulda gone to Jay-Z which we could hear as we waited for Dan to begin.
Gwar: The guy beside us sucked his squeeze's honkers throughout the show. Neither person was pleasant to look at. Someone dumped a beer on my ex's head. She was very not happy about that and decamped to camp without letting me suck on her hair for a buzz. I kept looking over at Deadmau5 during the show and it looked incredible. As fun as all the gore and baby killing at Gwar was I really wish we'd done that instead. I did hit it up after but the tent was so overfull I had a crap view.
Back at camp my lady and I mated in a Walmart tent but she tried to eat me after insemination. Not sure what that was about. I asked her about it at DMB the next day but she just spun a web of lies.

What a roller-coaster day this was!!!
I remember my best friend and I (it was our 4th Bonnaroo) started the day w/ Nora then moved on to some Jimmy.
He went to Avetts, as I went to check out the "then unknown"(first album literally dropped after Roo that year)Mumford n Sons for a half hour.
My plan then was to go back to camp and make the PERFECT all - night "baggie" for him and I for the Dead Weather / Stevie / Jay Z / DeadMaus run.
Well, I did that, BUT.....as I scurried back to the What Stage from camp w "baggie" in pocket, I get there, get a PERFECT spot left -side pit 15 minutes before D Weather starts, reach in my pocket..........NO BAGGIE!! Dropped it along the walk /scurry from camp ( If someone found a bag that year on that day around the entrance to the What stage, you are welcome). I was SUPER BUMMED!!!
But, instead of sulking, I left the pit, scurried back to camp , filled another bag w more drugs, and made it back to the same spot in the pit as Weather was kicking into their 2nd song.
Dead Weather into Stevie into Jay Z into LN Thievery into LN Deadmaus in a tent...........
if you were there what did you see? if you weren't there what would you see?

This was the first Bonnaroo lineup drop I paid attention to, and I think they did themselves a huge disservice by releasing one name at a time throughout the course of the day, culminating in DMB as the top billed headliner.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

I think I would dedicate the day to having amazing positioning for Stevie and Jay. Probably just outside pit for both.
I have to say I’m not getting any fomo outside of those two acts since Jay overlaps with Dan Deacon. But those 2 alone hold more value for me than this entire year.

That lineup drop was soooo brutal. I remember being glued to my laptop super frustrated. It wasn’t fun.
I miss when festivals did lineup drop events. Bonnaroo had a couple years of the BLAM, the daniel tosh commercial, sportscenter host commercial. Electric Forest did the mailing of artists to random fans and they posted them on social media. Stuff like that was fun to me. Now its just cum filled lineups leaking early.

I saw all of Jay-Z and still the last 25-30 minutes of Dan Deacon. I loved what I got to experience, even if it was haphazard.

I mean, watch this insanity
Oh man that gave me shivers. He does a version of that at almost every show but usually it's in a little venue so the effect is quite different. I can't remember if he did it at Roo but this was around the time when he'd have his crowds run in a giant swirl that'd start slow then devolve into total chaos.
The messiness mostly had to do with all their technical difficulties and him not normally having a band. I remember it being a lot of stops and starts and stuff not going right which he'd comment on. Still lotsa cool moments, I just think my expectations were sky high. He's still my all-time fav performer for a reason. Pretty sure he said he'd never do Roo again because it was a bad experience for him. That sucks but what a great clip.
I always thought that BLAM was a cool idea. Even when it wasn’t always exciting. It was nice that Bonnaroo put so much effort into doing weird and creative shit. But I honestly think the animated video drop was the best way to get people stoked.
Exclusively announced (some of) the lineup that had already leaked on the app (in near-entirety).
this + low ticket 2016 kept bonnaroo from ever having BLAM announcements ever again. fun while it lasted. the show they did in 2014 with hannibal buress was awesome too

insider dropping that elton john and k*nye were going to be there months ahead of the lineup drop was really clutch too

I remember watching this at work and immediately recruiting an entire new crew after just attending with my ex the two years prior. The kind of lineup and BLAM that made people want to go and commit instantly
