The more I think about it, this writing sounds like an epitaph for the festival. There’s no mention of returning and thanking everyone for a few great years.
any insight into why? seemed like they had a good niche with people ready to spend a decent amount of money. wild austin economy vs. company structure?

I have zero idea why but this feels internal. That Oxblood cancelation left a bad taste in people’s mouth plus putting tickets for sale during Levitation sales didn’t help.
Then there’s Prepare The Ground which takes place like two weeks before, had cheaper tickets, and and insane line up. It sold out instantly even though the logistics are way fucked up.
I was given some inside info on this fest a while back; seems like it barely held together at the seams internally each year, the two dudes allegedly not paying people/fest workers, hard to work with, apparently don’t even care for a lot of the stuff they booked musically. Some more serious allegations too but that’s not my story to tell.
Bummer Austin lost another fest, the lineups were good. Hope somebody else can fill that niche again.

It really felt they were trying too hard to be another Chaos in Tejas with the variation of music they started to throw out there plus the multiple venue format.
And tbh, Texas has way too many heavier festivals as of late. Some metal during SXSW, Hell’s Heroes just passed, the new Austin death metal fest in April along with Austin Psych Fest , then OA right after. Something had to break.

Texas is a big state, hard to argue there’s too many for us imho. Idk if I’d call Austin Psych Fest or SXSW a heavier fest either lol. Austin though has the death metal fest and that new Big Texas Metal fest, that frankly is shaping up to be fire. Hatebreed, All Shall Perish, Atreyu mmmmmm.

wanted to look into that last one real quick and found one of the coolest band logos I've seen in a minute
