Shaky knees top lines has a lot of artists who have played in the past few years/are out cause they have 2024 Boston shows
BC2024 - No women cause Win Butler is here Greta Van Fleet - Arcade Fire Tyler Childers - Hozier Fall Out Boy - The Offspring
If that ends up being the top 6, my wallet will thank me and I will look forward to In Between Days.
However, of the Shaky Knees undercard, give me any of:
Yves Tumor Metric Pigsx7 Waxahatchee Kevin Morby Interpol - although, I've seen them twice and unless they're doing a Turn on The Bright Lights album play, I'm good. Billy Idol Sunny Day Real Estate - saw them at In Between Days this year and they were incredible
that shaky lineup is embarrassing and this lineup is going to be even more embarrassing
Do you think it's indicative of the 2024 US festival circuit, either due to who is touring next year or bands preferring to skip festivals, or a product of C3/LN?

A bit of everything. Almost everyone toured between 2022-2023, so the general pool of new exciting names in 2024 isn't that big. Bands are also more expensive to book now, and the LN influence is gonna continue growing because it's the most reasonable way to fill out the lineup
I actually really like the Shaky lineup. They're dumb for booking Foo when they just headlined in 2021, but they still put on a really good show. Weird that Weezer/Queens co-headline on Saturday instead of a legit headliner-level band, but again both those bands are fun live, albeit in different ways. Arcade Fire being #2 on Friday instead of headlining Saturday is a little surprising to me, but maybe they really have fallen off that much.
A bunchhhh of good undercard stuff that i hope overlaps with BC... Without having pulled up tour schedules to rule any of these out, i'd LOVE to get some combo of Arcade Fire, Young The Giant, Metric, Miike Snow, Royal Blood, Microwave, Pool Kids, Matt and Kim

I have a feeling that Metric will be at BC. They were "originally" on the In Between Days lineup and were quickly removed and replaced by Phantogram. I wonder if they were either already booked for BC or in talks. Arcade Fire close blue? Not sure what the optics would be for a festival that received praise for its gender diversity in recent years to have them on, but I also don't know what the heat level is with Win.

After Shaky Knees lineup release
Wishlist: Sunny Day/All Them Witches/Microwave/Pigs x7/Interpol/Dinosaur Jr/Yves Tumor
Could See: Girl In Red(Makeup for 2020), The Offspring (Never played doing Rockville+Shaky Knees), Nova Twins (Shaky Knees+Rockville), Dead Poets Society (doing Shaky Knees+Rockville also from Boston), Royal Blood (Shaky knees+Rockville), Could See Metric too based on previous post
Also don't see Arcade Fire-would create too much controversy in Boston

This brings up an interesting question. Crash Line/MSG was very concerned about diversity along various lines; will LiveNation/C3 be less concerned with that? There's only one female-fronted act in the SK top 10.
Also, there's no way that Hozier's *not* headlining in 2024.

I don't think that Holly Humberstone is out. Her tour is one of those "small clubs even though the artist can draw bigger crowds" tours which often precede larger venue tours. Hozier did a club tour last spring, including a sold-out Paradise show, before he played larger venues.

She's in Boston on the 9th of May, 2 weeks before BC, and then out west - Los Angeles on the 23rd, then Portland on the 27th. There's little to no chance she's flying back to the east coast to play on Saturday (25th) and then fly up to Oregon either later that day or on Sunday for her Monday show. She will be at BottleRock either Friday or Saturday on her way up to Oregon.
1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/4: knock2 3/7: Inhaler* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
I'm more excited for news of who's out at this point
There definitely seems to be more of that than any clues to who may be at BC in 2024.
There are still some wildcards out there - PJ Harvey hasn't toured the US for her latest album (outside of a one off show in NY earlier this month) and she's showing up on international festival lineups. She has no shows from January - June 1st, when she'll be at Primavera.
The Smile didn't hit Boston during their US Summer leg and have a few Euro shows in March of 2024, as well as a few festivals.
While I think they most likely will be doing their own thing, Pearl Jam has a new album ready to go (early 2024?) and rumors of a Spring US leg followed by Europe and then Fall US have been around for awhile. Would they be in play? I'd think they would do Fenway before BC, but you never know. Nevermind - solid rumors of Fenway show(s) in either summer of fall.
And given that most on this board lean indie/alternative, there are bound to be some pop acts that we're completely ignoring that will be there given BC's recent pop inclusion (Charlotte Sands, Chelsea Cutler, Niall Horan, Peach Tree Rascals, etc). Plus, there has to be at least one to two all female indie rock/pop act if the last few years are any indication - The Beaches, Razor Braids, The Aces, The Linda Lindas, Hinds, HAIM, Horsegirl.
IDLES at Roadrunner isn't until September 24, 2024
it is insane to announce a show for a mid level band 10 months in advance
but it does probably rule them out
It's also interesting that there is a gap in their tour schedule during MDW. While they are in Dallas on the 23rd, they could still be in play for either Saturday or Sunday.
It's not unheard of for acts to return to Boston within 6 months of BC. The Walkmen played Boston in October and Noah Kahan was at the Xfinity Center in September.
I don't think they will be at BottleRock, the other similar MDW festival, as they are in San Francisco and Oakland a couple of weeks before that festival. They were at Adjacent last year and that festival looks to be one and done.
All that said, they are probably at Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival in Vegas, which is that same weekend.

IDLES isn't playing PRB lol, they've never been remotely interested in doing shows with the punk scene

Fair enough - wasn't sure how punk adjacent they tended to be.

Ah, that makes sense. I wasn't paying attention to the specific dates; I was mainly thinking about how the club "pre-tour tour" may not be a disqualifier in and of itself.

Since 2024 will be the first year that LiveNation/C3 is handling contracts, this may mean that radius clauses may be changing. How they might change is anyone's guess, absent info on any standard clause they use for all of their owned festivals. I wonder, though, if they may waive radius clauses if the artist's next show in a market is a LiveNation show, enabling them to profit from interest created by a local festival appearance a few months earlier (while requiring that artists wait X number of months before working with Bowery/AEG, Get To The Gig, etc.)
Fleet Foxes, Gregory Alan Isakov, S.G. Goodman out - playing Green River Festival in Greenfield, MA in June (along with Cake, Joy Oladokun, and Mdou Moctar, among others). May have to check that out.
Sleep Token doing Radio City Music hall a few days before BC, also with RHCP touring around the time think they could be one of the headliners?
You may be on to something with RHCP as a headliner. Looks like they are doing large amphitheaters next summer and XFinity Center is not listed on their east coast leg (Florida up to Toronto).
I don't think Sleep Token is a BC type of act, but I could be completely mistaken with new ownership.
