If they keep putting out lineups like this they're gonna run BSMF out of town. Bummer that GonerFest has such an incredible lineup and is the same weekend. Looks like I'll be hopping between the two somehow. Just glad I don't have to make an Osees vs. Mempho artist decision.

BSMF just isn't booking interesting stuff. Mempho is still relatively niche (jam-adjacent rock, americana folk, soul/funk) and since moving to the Garden has stopped booking rap, pop, and heavier stuff. There's definitely lanes for both to coexist but BSMF needs a better talent buyer who can curate a solid lineup from top to bottom.

Mempho is also straight up my lane. The artists are really my scene so I'm into it.
But BSMF has also crushed it in the past. Whoever they got doing booking the last handful of years has been awful at their job. But I'm also wondering how much of it is Nashville dominating the region. There's rumors that many venues in Nashville have expanded their radius clause so Memphis is getting shutout.
On the other hand, people don't show up in Memphis anymore. We saw Lizzo the other night and the venue was nowhere near sold out. I mean she's one of the biggest names in pop right now and they were dropping club level seats to $45/pop and it still wasn't full

Saddened by the demise of B.S.M.F. solely because it was my first fest experience ever way back when, and a shame because of its long storied history. But track record of Mempho's lineups look promising for this.

It was mine too (2007).
But in fairness, BSMF did it to themselves. The lineups have been mediocre for the last decade plus outside of a handful. They rested on their laurels and refused to make a daring booking or two. Plus, outside of being next to the river, the festival experience was one step above a county fair.
Mempho has been good, they've just never had the sold out draw I keep hoping for it to really make it memorable. Every performance I've seen has been "Okay." Very few of the performers I'm seeing for the first time at Mempho and every performance outside of Mempho has been a better show. That's just my anecdotal and very subjective perspective.
And it's truly not a knock at Mempho. They put together good lineups. I'd just like to see the festival really start taking off to become a destination fest that people WANT to travel for like some of the bigger ones (Shaky Knees or Hangout used to be).
