I also wonder if it’s not as casual as you’d think? I mean I’m going specifically for Neil, and everything else is a bonus. Go how little this guy tours, I would be surprised if most VIP Thursday tickets were bought specifically for Neil and are ready and willing to embrace solo acoustic set, if that’s what it ends up being
Farm Aid last year was solo acoustic. Since this will probably be the same weekend that’s why I’m expecting that here unless we get word otherwise. And I agree if you’re VIP or right up front you’ll probably be okay.
I saw Neil do a solo show at the Fox in Detroit, and the crowd wasn’t library quiet but it was in the range of normal for a seated show. Neil got all mad about it though and it became “a thing.” No way this audience isn’t worse (as you’d expect at a fest). Maybe he just keeps it to 45 minutes like a Farm Aid set but then even the “real fans” will be unhappy
He's 78 years old. I'll be happy if he's standing up and can sing at all.

I mean getting lectured by Neil kind of a plus imo
We’ve probably collectively thought more about what Neil will do than Neil. I’m going in with no expectations other than that it won’t be a festival set loaded with hits- it’s not his thing. I read somewhere that he wants to focus on deeper tracks in upcoming shows FWIW.
We saw him in 2016 at Beale Street Music Festival and he started the show with a 36 (!) minute version of Down By the River! Memorable, at least. Late in the show it appeared someone came out to tell him they’re running out of time, and they wrapped it up.
Whatever the set is, we’ll be seeing a rock legend in an ever-rarer live performance and it’ll be worth the whole day.

The comment about deeper tracks was specific to that tour and I don’t think he’ll continue that, but I’m happy to be wrong. But, a 36 minute down by the river sounds ideal lol.
I could be wrong, but if it’s solo acoustic and it’s a festival closing set, I’d be shocked if we didn’t get atleast 8-9 of the songs we’d expect to get

I was at bsmf for this as well and have the (audio) recording if you are interested in having a copy. Just let me know.
I’m wondering about walking logistics since we booked a hotel downtown. I’ve read about Uber/Lyft being a challenge, which is no surprise I’ve been to Boston Calling. We’ve thought about just walking a mile or so out and then calling. Is that a reasonable expectation or would snagging a shuttle pass to the downtown area really be worth it for the ~$45/person/day? There’s two of us so I can’t imagine an Uber being $90+/day.
2024 Lineup: 4/10 - HFTRR @ Larimer Lounge 6/1 - JRAD @ Red Rocks 7/18 - Dr. Dog @ Red Rocks 7/26-7/28 - Newport Folk Festival 9/19-9/22 - Bourbon & Beyond Festival

We stayed about a mile out on the perimeter. The neighboring hotel ran shuttles for free to the gates, so I know LLL did that a few times. We got stuck downtown that Friday before we went in. We couldn't find a lift or Uber for over an hour. Meanwhile the street we were on probably had 10-15 busses pass while we were waiting. I don't know where they were going because we didn't research that ahead of time, but there were plenty heading toward the general direction of the festival grounds. There were scooters available here and there on the sidewalks, but we didn't download that app. Keep in mind it was the same day as the Louisville v FSU game, so it wasn't just the 35k or so who came down for the festival, you also had a bunch of Noles fans in town as well as probably locals heading to that game. So I don't know if the rideshare system was just overworked that day or whatever. I also don't know how late the busses run, so to be able to catch one after the festival ends is a questionmark.

You'll be able to Uber - They purposefully picked non-conflicting dates this year and there isn't any major artist that's going to cause traffic issues (Pearl Jam, Bruno they both struggled with)
But it's what the money is worth to you. They're 100% on-time with the shuttles and you get to leave ASAP afterwards. Uber you may be waiting a good while at the end of the night. Getting there will be 0 issue each day.
Most recent email I got from Neil had this fest listed in the NYCH tour dates where previously it hasn’t been fwiw
If this happens might make up for 3 hour drive to farm aid last year to see Neil (his first return to event since 2019), only to get a 15 minute 4 song set. I left frustrated immediately afterwards rather than tough it out in cold for Willie Nelson only to learn the next day there was an unannounced surprise Bob Dylan set with the Heartbreakers backing, which you may know from my screen name really twisted the knife.
And with this I'm out. Plenty of other stuff to enjoy on the Thursday lineup but I'll have to teach the next morning and I can't fathom a replacement I'd pay $150 for. Thankfully didn't have a ticket yet.

Any other ideas on a replacement? Would Dead & Company doing a one off after the Sphere residency be a realistic expectation? They would fit the demographic hole Neil will be leaving. B & B is saying refund options will be discussed when the new headliner is announced so I suppose it could be a pop act like Bruno last year they get instead.
