Typically the Top two names on the daily bill are “headliners” b/c they would close that particular stage and have more of their stage setup than the other artists. So - Tyler Childers would close one stage and MMJ the one next to it. What I found super interesting is that That National has higher billing than Jacket on the full poster, but they are letting MMJ play later given the hometown dynamic.

Deserved, imo. They don't play here nearly enough.
First time going this year! What time do the headliners usually end? Is there a sound ordinance in Louisville that says they have to be done by 11 or whatever?

City fest. You see last year post above and ‘22 which was discussed a few pages back was 10:30, 11, 11, 10:30.
What's up with them closing the fest on different stages?
This is weird, especially with the more expensive VIP stands being off to the right, that can’t be a good vantage point for the left stage. It devalues that experience if you can’t see the final headliner one or two of the night from the stands

It's still a decent view - Most of those folks from my experience get it for the air conditioning and free booze. Plus they have the same front of stage access as the rest of VIP that is still easy to get even just before the final headliner.
Going. Never been to this festival. Need the deets.
Details in 2022 and this years thread. You can start around page 5 of 2022 (only goes to 7). Basics are it’s a middle-age crowd older than ACL but mostly younger than Jazzfest. Louisville is a cool city. They have other shit going on besides music related to unsurprisingly Bourbon and cocktails. Also they bring in a bunch of celebrity chefs who do demos and comedy which people can participate in if you get to an event 10-15 minutes early and ask to be part of it. They oversell what the installations are but that doesn’t mean they’re bad. For instance they have this silver dollar saloon place you can go try a bunch of rare bourbon, but it’s small. The Arcade was like 3 or 4 video game machines. The whiskey aged with Metallica blasting at it isn’t immersive. It’s just a place to try that whiskey. Food hit and miss but plenty good. You’ll want VIP for front stage access for the side by side main stages and shade early in the afternoon, and that will sell out. Otherwise it doesn’t have a visually distinct personality and could be any carnival or festival anywhere. There is some art but not that much. Lots of space to move around in GA but it starts about 100 feet back from VIP.
Oh I forgot that lots of the 30-45 year old ladies wore cowboy boots on Sunday which was a bit more country than all the other days. I assume most people ride horses and therefore have boots. Didn’t see any arrests.

At Clemson football games women wear cowboy boots to sneak in liquor.

Okay, but isn’t that standard with any school in close proximity to the SEC or within the SEC?
I got VIP and I'm not wearing fucking cowboy boots to a festival.
Good move. What this will do is get you front of the side by side stages and possibly the new one at the other end if it’s big enough. There is a shelter area all the way to the left, but it fills up and people horde spots there. There are some bars in VIP. Pay attention to what other stuff they have in store*. You see at the bottom that Food Network stars Chris Santos and Amanda Freitag will be there as well as Ed Lee. Santos and Lee are from Louisville. They will likely add a bunch more, many that you’ll know from Chopped and whatever.
* closer to the festival they will announce special things that happen around the festival. There will be occasional free cocktails for a few people at a given area to try. Also in 2022 they partnered with Zelle so if you used it like 5x that month (you can send 25 cents 5 x to your husband) they had special performances like a private 20 minutes with St. Vincent (or 4 other shows) where they gave you free food and margaritas to go with the private show. I think Douglass said he got that.
Anyway, you’ll have a good time. Stay close to the festival grounds and you won’t have any rideshare issues.

I did! The coolest festival perk ever, though that may be because Annie looked me directly in the eyes for a while.

This makes me feel better. Have heard some really rough things about the crowd for the festival.

Don't listen to them. It's easily the most chill/friendly festival I've been to. People that complain about the crowd are people that used to everyone being drugged up at fests

The worst I saw was an old man hit the ground in the beer line in VIP. Pearl Jam did stop for a couple minutes so EMT’s could get to someone in the crowd, but that was pretty much it. I didn’t see anyone get arrested though people were smoking. I didn’t see any fights in the crowd. Plenty of people were happily fucked up, me included. Night 2 I couldn’t stand up straight when I was walking out (could walk straight though) and got laughed at by a group of cops walking out. All the workers and most of the crowd were friendly. I suppose shit could get sketchier for Louder than Life because it’s hard rock and metal - so some overlap but also some different fans. But I wouldn’t know.

Welcome Exalted Moderator! If you're in it for the music, B&B Mint VIP is the best value in the industry IMO. Also I highly recommend a distillery tour- we've done Woodford Estates, Buffalo Trace and Maker's Mark- all different but really enjoyable- especially the ride through some beautiful country. Book well in advance as many sell out long before the festival.
