I would be very surprised if they return to Douglass Park after last year’s debacle
Was it a "debacle" or just the neighborhood getting their complaints attention finally? Didn't hear of anything drastic going wrong
Finally Sending an asshole spokesperson to a meeting that was required since they moved to the park wasnt enough of a debacle to you? Lolla handles their shit better than that. Riot just greased a few people and thought they could just cruise without anyone noticing. And I mean if you do want anything when it comes to the fest itself then Friday with MCR was enough of a message that they didnt really put effort into safety. How many times did they have to stop the show from All the pushing? A lot. That didnt happen at WWWY. There were a couple times during the day that things stopped at WWWY but it wasnt cause people up front were getting obliterated.
Fake Pantera's tour dates make me think Riot Fest booked 'em.
Sup Pale Hose.
I wanted to think that but it also looks like they didn't book shows in cities that they're already booked 2024 Metallica gigs in.
Sup.
You're right, although they list the 2023 Metallica dates on the poster, but not the 4 cities that have been announced for 2024. There's historically been a decent amount of overlap between Louder Than Life and Riot Fest, I guess we'll find out in May.
That Goldenvoice Reset concert series with LCD and boygenius is happening in Chicago at Riis Park…interesting
I have a lot of faith in GV as an organization. I'm not sure I have a lot of faith in anyone operating smoothly with local aldermen and city hall. Should be interesting.
Aeg has almost as much money as LN, think theyll figure it out.
Navigating labyrinthine local ordinances and permits isn't really about money though. I hope it's a success but GV didn't exactly kill it in the NY fest market either.
Well it shows they couldnt make it feasible for somebody to just hop onto the train and get there in minimal time cause of whats established in the city itself. No Grant for obvious reasons. Union likely has all of their permits filled up from the usual suspects. Douglass not a spot due to the Riot drama. Figure Humboldt said no cause of Riot? I think people are more upset that it doesnt seem like its a solo show, but it is for all of these dates. The concept of just hanging out from the afternoon til evening watching music just blowing over peoples heads cause its not 10 bands a day
20th anniversary album sets 1) Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People 2) M83 -Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts 3) The Rapture - Echoes 4) Fall Out Boy - Take This To Your Grave 5) Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is not a cold dead place 6) Alkaline Trio - Good Mourning 7) Blink-182 - Untitled 8) Motion City Soundtrack - I Am The Movie 9) Saosin - Translating The Name 10) Thursday - War All The Time
M83 was still a duo back then, I don't think he plays any of that stuff anymore. Not that I wouldn't love it...

I was thinking about that too but Riis Park is way smaller than Douglas Park. Last year Riot Fest used around 72 acres (less than half of Douglas Park), while the entirety of Riis Park is around 57 acres.
Posted this in the Chicago thread but it’s relevant here too: heard last night that Heatwave is moving to Riis Park this year which gives more credibility that this is going to move out there too.

Chicago has a ton of surrounding land. I would love to see at least one of the major fests say fuck it and do camping fest.

does it?
Isn’t the problem that there are three festivals in Douglas Park now, so they can’t use the park for a large percentage of the summer?
If they all move to the same other park, doesn’t that just move the same problem elsewhere?

Obviously not Chicago proper but Summercamp does go that route. I do think most of the Chicago fests do pretty well with daily commuter traffic because the summer fest culture has been embedded for a long time in the city.
A camping fest could be interesting but I feel like most of the surrounding burbs would be very NIMBY about it.

Maybe that is the biggest problem, maybe the problem is that some people who live near Douglass Park want nothing there; regardless of what the problem is, if someone saw a guy in a Riot Fest hoodie surveying Riis Park in some capacity and now we know both Re:Set and Heatwave are happening there, there seems to be more credibility to the idea this festival is movint out there too.
