Where is Douglass Park?
Douglass Park is located on Chicago's west side. The festival takes place in the south half of the park, south of Ogden Avenue.
How do I get to Douglass Park?
I wrote a very long post about this which you can read here. I'm going to give the tldr here:
-If you're coming by train, take the pink line to Kedzie or California. The trains going to the festival tend to be fine but it gets very crowded after the festival ends. Consider leaving early if you don't care much about the headliner or walking to an alternate stop when getting on after leaving. Do not expect the CTA to run extra service on the pink line during Riot Fest. Be extra careful when waiting on train platforms. -If you're coming by bus, you are probably heading north/south. There are buses heading northbound on California and Kedzie (and Western if you want to chance the walk). They get very crowded after Riot Fest. Be prepared to wait. -If you're coming by car, there is some street parking available north of Ogden. You may also have luck with SpotHero. Arrive early. -If you're coming by Uber, be prepared to spend extra and wait a while.
How close are the aftershow venues to the festival?
(For the Google Map I created for this image, click here.)
As you can see, no venue is particularly close to Douglass Park. As such, you will likely have to Uber from Douglass Park to any of these venues to make an aftershow. Aragon is the furthest north; if you're going to that Danzig show you will have to leave early. The openers for the aftershows will start at 10PM and Chicago venues run late so don't worry as much about that. Including waiting for an Uber, allow yourself at least 30-45 minutes for Empty Bottle/Cobra Lounge/Bottom Lounge/Reggies, 45 minutes minimum for Concord/Chop Shop/House of Blues, and and at least an hour for Metro.
What are your Chicago recommendations?
I'm going to include space for others' recommendations.
shuck: As far as touristy attractions go, you can always have a nice time by checking out the Art Institute and Millennium Park. . For food/drinks, if you're taking the pink line to the festival you will pass through the West Loop at some point (Morgan/Clinton stops), a neighborhood now famous for its restaurants. Of course, it would be remiss of me to not mention Kuma's, the metal-themed burger restaurant and bar with a good beer selection. Gaijin, a Japanese spot that serves pretty much exclusively okonomiyaki, is my personal favorite West Loop restaurant. If you're in town earlier, Nights & Weekends is a fun bar in the West Loop that opens at 5 daily.
Where should I stay?
If you're just getting a hotel now you probably want to save yourself the hassle of finding a not-too expensive Airbnb that won't cost you a fortune in Uber rides to get to/from the festival and just get a hotel close to the train.
I resisted the urge to buy a ticket for The Postal Service-DCFC in Minneapolis so they both better be on this lineup.
I know the debate was raging on in the 2022 thread, but I think the simplest logic for both bands playing is financial: both bands want to get paid and they’re presumably both using the same stage production and it would be far more expensive to have the bands play different days or have one band headline and the other do an aftershow elsewhere.

I feel like headliners here are never the same size. Some years will be like last with MCR and NIN, or there will be other massive headliners like No Doubt, SOAD, The Cure, etc, and then other years will have headliners like Weezer, RTJ, Modest Mouse, Flaming Lips. Not to mention the random reunions that headline like Jawbreaker and Bikini Kill.

I was going to say something similar, that Riot has incredibly uneven headliners, moreso than any other festival I can think of. I think having 3 legit arena size headliners this year was a fluke due to the MCR/NIN postponements.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Which is why I was confused by everyone thinking Postal Service is an automatic headliner. I can’t tell if Riot is going for arena headliners like MCR or theater headliners like Elvis Costello.

Postal Service makes sense as a headliner to me because when they last reunited they top 6'd Lolla. But who the hell knows.
Based on the size of the venues on the TPS-Death Cab tour I'd be really surprised that Ben would pass on the paycheck of a show at the United Center or Northerly Island to subheadline at Riotfest.
I also want closure on flashii half implying this festival is moving to a random west side park and then not following up on that
flashii you been pulling permit applications or something? Spill it.
Sorry folks, no scoops here. I just saw on another forum that there was a sighting of someone in a Riot Fest hoodie surveying/measuring a large area of that park in October. This is a grain of salt situation, but I was just interested in what locals knew, if anything, about that park/neighborhood.

That is genuinely interesting at least, sounds like at bare minimum they’re pretty serious about scoping out other locations.
