So I will not be at Jazzfest this upcoming weekend. Just got a third bartending job, that is just the next three weekends for the SpongeBob Musical at the Rivertown theater. Will miss seeing y'all.
Anyone have a Facebook group for jazz fest tickets they trust?
If they are on Facebook in 2023, can you fr trust them?
Eh you'd be surprised. I’m in an Astros ticket group with 40k folks that I trust and use all the time. Wasn’t sure if anyone had something similar for Jazz Fest or even a Nola group.
Goose kicked ass at Daze Between last night. There was a pretty big crowd at the Brewery - I was thinking maybe 700-800? Tough to say because it's so spread out, but it was cool. The second set particularly kicked ass. They had some good instrumental parts along with good songs. Setlist as of now
California Magic Lead Up Turned Clouds No Rain (Blind Melon cover with David Shaw) Hot Tea (with Neil Francis on keys and the horn section of Cool Cool Cool which I think is the survivor band out of Turkuaz)
Setbreak
Hungersite Feel it Now Fish in the Sea (Fat Freddy's Drop cover with Cool Cool Cool horns) Silver Rising The Empress of Organos
looks like it could be rainy tomorrow, 50-60% chance of scattered t-storms pretty much all day. outlook could be worse, i just really really don't want a cancellation.
Friendly reminder. If it is rainy and muddy, that is not just dirt/mud, that is POOP! This is a functional, running fairground that has actual races. There is feces and pee in the dirt on the track. Do not play in the "mud." Wear shrimp/rain boots or trash shoes that are not open toed. Bring a poncho. Even rainy JazzyFests can be fun. I have been at a many, just stay out of the shit.

How the fuck did I not know Disco Biscuits played Mobile last night? Shame on me I guess. Heard there was like 100 people there and they opened with Little Lai and Story of the World and worked in Helicopters. Can’t wait for tonight.

dude it's so funny you said that, i was laying in bed at 10:15pm last night looking at twitter, saw brownie post the set I setlist and say how much fun he was having in Mobile, i was like what the hell.

I haven’t been seeing much this year because of needing to tamp down to redo my floors in Florida instead of running up credit. So I haven’t been researching much to post in the a Gulf Coast shows thread. But I was already in Florida and came back for Goose. I could just as easily have taken yesterday off and drove to Mobile, and I would have done that. Guess you can’t win them all.
Biscuits were definitely fun. I had to drive so things had to be what they were. I’m not mad but that’s the semi-soberest TDB show I’ve seen out of 5. Tomorrow afternoon looks dicey with some red on the radar models coming through. It’s whatever. I usually am never outside for thunderstorms but we got a couple flashes at Neil Young in 2016. I have some chewed up Converses and a raincoat. Idgaf because I’m going to risk it. But it well could be wise to follow your friends who know to see what alternate Dead shit we will have in the event shit gets called. Mfers been in and out of town for 2 weeks so no way we don’t get something. I heard Mayer was supposed to show tonight for JRAD but idk if that happened.
It’s freaking storming so wear shitty shoes or rain boots. Hopefully we will get a break this afternoon but we will see on that. Depending on what time the gates open and how the weather looks, I’m probably going to split George Porter Jr. and HaSizzle (bounce rapper), James Rivers Movement (cool jazz), Preservation Hall Jazz Band/Hurray for the Riff Raff and then Dead and Company. We don’t look to get sun-sapped so maybe a return to Disco Biscuits Night 2 as well if I can figure out transportation or if I get enough of a hair up My ass to decide to walk 3 miles there and back.
It looks like it is going to rain until about 1pm today y'all. Then a couple of scattered storms around 4p and 9p. Wear clothing and shoes you don't care about, and a poncho. Dance, eat and do whatever in the "mud" but don't get mad at me if you end up with e. coli. I warned y'all that it is poop.
Shit tex, we should have found you. I had my phone encased in a plastic bag most of the day. My feet are waterlogged, but I had a fun day at Jazz Fest. Top 1 was hanging out with Browell and Postjack most of the afternoon. Some people say you can tell people by the company you keep. That makes me look better and them worse. Haha. We got in at delayed opening and due to intermittent rain, some of it heavy, it was a scattery day and didn’t really follow any plans I had. Food line was first. Postjack got a cochon du lait poboy, Browell got a muffuletta, and I got a RB poboy no mayo. We caught some of GPJ and Running Pardners. They dropped some og meters among other stuff. We got some cafe au laits just as it started pouring and ducked into the Jazz Tent to catch James Rivers Movement’s set. I thought it was a legacy act honoring him, but he’s still band leader at 86. I don’t think I’ll be upright at 86 much less able to effortlessly play sax, bagpipes, harmonicas and shit. They had a Tuesday residency for like a decade at Tyler’s Oyster Bar in the 70’s and 80’s. So I was seeing those guys when they were early 40’s or whatever. Time flies. Fun set for respect purposes. We went past the Puerto Rico exhibit and it started pouring again. So me and Browell hung out in there with Pirulo y la tribu which was an Afro-Caribbean “Hot Latin Music” show. It was kind of fire and the cultural tent got packed for them. We got out to main hoping to catch some PHJB but it was ending as we walked up. So we hung out waiting for Dead and Co. Their show was solid if not a bit slowed down. It wasn’t perfect as some of the improvs went oddly and off tune, but the good parts were pretty damn good. It was weird to me that they opened with Truckin and Shakedown Street, but it wasn’t clear yet if the rain and storms would return. So I was thinking maybe that was presented first and second just in case. Maybe not. They sounded great, but it was way more chill and slower tempo than the show at Smoothie King Center on the tour before Covid. I’m glad I saw it and would give it a solid B, but I was anticipating it being a top 3 or 4 show of the year which remains to be seen but seems unlikely to end up that high. Walking home I stopped by my cousins house who I ran into on the way in. He busted out the Pappy Van Winkle 15 year, so I chose that life over going back to Disco Biscuits for night 2. I really wanted to go but I behaved enough already and don’t want to drive today
everything that Esteban said, of course. always a good time getting to hang with him and was nice finally meeting Postjack!
hadn’t been to Jazzfest and really explored around as my first 2 visits were spent camped out at Congo Square. just such a cool fest that I’d love to be able to catch a day or 2 of each year.
super glad to have caught a Dead and Co. show before it’s all wrapped up and such!
