Not surprising. I read it was more than JUST that. He's older and has been doing it for so long and it's really hard now, at least according to the article I read.
Cubes are out today. Since I’m only for sure doing second Saturday for Dead & Co., that day looks like GPJ & Runnin’ Pardners > HaSizzle > Anders Osborne/James Rivers Movement > PHJB > Hurray for the Riff Raff > Dead & Co. Disco Biscuits that night.
Also yasiin bey and Talib Kweli are Black Star announced a night show first Friday. If I’m in town that weekend, I’ll go to that.
Slight derail but probably of interest to some who frequent this thread…
Anyone heading to FQF this week and have some tips on some can’t miss bands for Fri-Sun? Definitely going to see Rebirth Brass Band on Sat. Our plan is just to wander other than that unless we find some others we should focus on.
Also going to do a rain dance and hope for the best. Weather not looking great for late Fri-Sun at this point.

Let me go look at the list. It's been so packed lately on weekends, that I mostly just go to eat Thursday or Friday.
Friday - Steve Masakowski & Johnny Vidacovich, Soul Rebels with Big Freedia, Water Seed is a pretty cool jam band and Erica Falls is a singer who used to sing with Galactic for a while.
Saturday - Joe Krown, Helen Gillet & Wazozo (Helen is a great cellist - this is a string project with violin, harp, etc.), Shamarr Allen, Astral Project (one of the best jazz bands in the city), Khris Royal (former sax player for Gravity A, Greenhouse Lounge and has his own band Dark Matter) but it looks like that conflicts with Rebirth, of course Rebirth.
Sunday - Maggie Koerner (also used to sing with Galactic for a while), Storyville Stompers, Johnny Sansone, Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers (if you like Zydeco, they're a newer more rock version of that), Corey Henry & the Treme Funktet (used to be the leader of Rebirth), James Rivers Movement, Iceman Special (hippie/pyschadelic rock), Tank & The Bangas, Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen
Anyway, that's what appeals to me looking at it. Best overall of these would be Helen Gillet & Wazozo, Astral Project (modern jazz, superior talent), Corey & Treme Funktet if you like the funk, Water Seed and Iceman Special.
Anyone doing the festival or aftershows this weekend? I'll be out of town until next Wednesday, but I just saw that both Goose shows at Daze Between are 2 sets/3 hours from 6:30-9:30pm. I plan to go to Wednesday's show assuming I can make it back in town. Otherwise, I got my Disco Biscuits for a week from Friday and Saturday and will be getting my Jazz Fest ticket for Dead & Company next Saturday.

I might be going Friday, we will see. I am working Thursday, Saturday and Sunday this week. I am assuming the same next week as well.

Just got offered a pass tomorrow. Will be festing. Anyone else going out there, hit me up!
Can’t wait. Got a dose of FOMO last couple nights. All my kids were at Key Glock on Wednesday and then 2 were working Ministry last night and sending me videos. Meanwhile Jabco was at Molly Tuttle and Billy and the Kids and was sending updates. He said Molly was really good. Billy and the Kids setlist looked great.

So I missed that and my daughter hits me up - hey dad. trombone shorty is here and just invited us to his show on Monday. I was like damn I haven’t run into Shorty in the streets since VIP pit for future at Buku - I think 16 (?). So I told her that his big show is today at Saenger and the Monday one is at Tip’s. She was like yeah, he invited us to that one too but I gotta work. I don’t hate being out of town but I hate being out of town for Jazz Fest.
So (quick brag), my ticket isn't just a ticket. It is a guest stage all access pass. I can bounce from stage to stage and have stage guest viewing! I will be hitting up Lizzo (who has been EVERYWHERE for her birthday yesterday), sneaking over to Wu-Tang and then heading back to Lizzo.
She is going to go fucking off. She was at Cat's Meow in the middle of the day with nobody there but her crew doing Karaoke, then went on a NOLA party boat and did the whole swamp tour while drinking champagne and then finished it all off with dinner at Tujague's with a birthday cake of her face.
Officially locked in for Sunday this week and Saturday next week. I refuse to pay more than $60 for a ticket so it was just a matter of waiting for prices to drop

Hey Kev, where did you get them at that price? I still need to get a ticket for next Saturday. Thanks.

I got them from someone in the "Jazzfest fans" facebook group. I typically find tickets there, on Reddit, or in the comment section of an official jazz fest facebook post. Knowing that you can always buy them at face value at the gate makes it easier to wait out prices. Last year, I got 4 free tickets (even after I offered to pay) for the last Sunday from a kind stranger who didn't want to deal with the mud.
anybody want a free ticket to see Ween tomorrow night? i don't feel like driving over.
If I wasn't already working.
The paper gave Lizzo’s show a pretty glowing review. You had fun?
Also hearing Robert Plant is at Preservation Hall tonight so apparently midnight preserves. Wish I was in town because I actually know someone who works there. Bah

So good. Freedia was amazing as well.
So Robert Plant played a secret show at Chickiwahwah on Thursday. He is trying to be everywhere here.
