I'm so pumped to see Maggie on the stream in a bit.
Pretty good show I think. I switched on ML for a minute but couldn’t take that much of it. I heard a Freedia sample, and I’m sure Diplo has his usual King Crimson second or two later. Youngest crowd I’ve seen at ACL besides kids tent and Billie in 2018. Looking forward to seeing Little Simz in a bit.

Solid Foos set /probably should have attempted coherency at Bonnaroo. Freese also mic’d up particularly well. Edit spectacular job there with the drum mics.
Further edit - whatever portion of the show they showed on Hulu is very good got the Motörhead Sabbath NIN Zeppelin Metallica Beastie Boys and Devo teases. Good job putting on a headline show.
Edit again Shania. Haha. Damn. This is a really fucking good FF show
Damn. That was good all the way to the end. Wish I was there.
death grips were a fucking trip. the only lighting being the red screen behind them made the three of them look like silhouettes and i think it's perfect for their set. not a giant crowd but easily one of the rowdiest of the weekend. i told myself i think five different times that i was going to leave after the song they were playing and go to labrinth but i just could not pull myself away and ended up staying the whole time.
i think zach and childers are safe bets given they headlined two step inn this year. i think a wild card like brooks & dunn would be fucking sick and in the same lane as shania.
Here at the Honda hospitality which is pretty fucking chill. Jessie Ware smashed it. Glad the crowd got more active as the set went on. I’m waiting for Rina to come on now.
Anyone know if this is the first time Honda does a lounge ?

they've definitely had them in the past but they change a little every year. i know in 2021 they had a claw game like tito's has but it was for side stage access on those raised platforms. i think last year they had temporary tattoos and sno cones.
Probably favorite single ACL day I’ve ever had. Rina was incredible. The crowd was eating her up too. Thirty Seconds to Mars was fine I suppose. Wish Jared sang more on The Kill but it was cool to finally see that song live for the nostalgia.
Tove Lo was really good. I wish I had seen her during the QOTC era but seeing her finally was a need. How Long was my favorite moment as that song is one of her best in her discography.
On the plane back from Austin. What a great weekend.
We got to explore the city on Saturday and see Nessa Barrett at Emo’s that night. Loved the venue and Nessa was fantastic. She reminds me of a poppier Billie. I could definitely see her blowing up in the future.
ACL produced one of my favorite runs of music I’ve experienced: M83 > Little Simz > YYYs > Labrinth > Mumford
We caught a little bit of Del water gap before grabbing food. M83 has been an act I have been trying to catch for years. I was pretty disappointed with their 4:15 set time and considered seeing Yves Tumor so my first M83 experience could be at night. So happy I stuck with M83 as this ripped. Epic vibes all the way through and they were jammier than I expected.
Went to check out the merch situation and ended up giving up on the line. My one regret yesterday was only catching the end of Little Simz. Way more ~vibeier~ than I was expecting. The backdrop on the screen reminded me of a comforting warm glow.
I went to YYYs whilst the rest of the group went to Hozier. Overall, I was happy with the set. Not blown away like I was hoping to be but Karen is a badass and the band sounded great.
I met up with the others at Labrinth. We didn’t have the greatest spot right behind the sound booth, but it was not easy reconnecting with everyone. That aside this set was church. Production was electric and he played all the songs I was hoping to hear. He was one of the biggest reasons we did this trip given the rarity of his live shows and he did not disappoint.
We ended the night at Mumford. Let me start by saying that I unapologetically love Mumford & Sons. I saw a ton of great music yesterday but this may have been my favorite set of all. Beautiful lights and loved that the laser array only came out for Delta. House of the Rising Sun with Trombone Shorty was a ripper of a cover. I was basking in the glow of a beautiful weekend at this point so that definitely contributed to this set, but it should not be understated how good they were in my eyes. That all being said, Marcus said this was his last show for awhile so you are probably safe from any personal disappointment seeing them on festival posters next year.
Zilker was a truly great venue, and we didn’t even have much opportunity to explore. We loved our first Austin experience and we really only scratched the surface. Will definitely be back in the future.
While I sadly missed my first ACL in forever, I do have some general themes from the thousands of Reddit posts I had to review these weekends + about a dozen reviews from close friends who are festival veterans...
- Lumineers were the surprise of the fest, with just about everyone saying they far exceeded expectations (maybe it was a low bar in the first place, but still) - Amex production continues to get worse with each passing year, and is really becoming an embarrassment for the festival - Honda HLers > Amex each day, a trend I feel likes has held for a few years now - About all the subheadliners were received very well, namely the Sunday trio of Hozier/YYY/Labrinth. I think ACL has proven its super strong in the 7-12 range, esp compared to other LN/C3 fests. - "IHG Hotels & Resorts" is the dumbest stage name of all time - Undercard winners were Jessie Ware, Death Grips, FKJ, Chromeo, Ethal Cain & Tove Lo...but none of that should surprise anyone here lol - Operationally, didn't hear much issue with the entrance lines & security - Food seemed like it took a step back--loss of some OG vendors, increase prices/forced tipping, etc sounded pretty shitty, especially considering ACL Eats has always been a strength vs other festivals - Best weather for an ACL maybe ever??
Overall seemed like a really solid year for the fest; resell (and subsequently scammers) were the highest I've seen in a long while too which hopefully bodes well for the future.
Blink-182 has to be a lock for 2024 with no Austin date
Didn’t they play Austin this year? They are hitting San Antonio but that’s probably just to cover a city they haven’t hit on the reunion circuit. Not sure the dates move the dial much.
