Bummer... I was hoping for a mars volta aftershow. Having the sold out death grips tour shows that were announced months ago count as aftershows is corny too
I'm kinda tempted by some of the night shows. This will be my first ACL (Sat W1 only) but I went to Austin a couple times in the 00's. Should I buy right away or wait until the last minute? Here are the ones I'm eyeing...
Fri 10/6
Bob Moses @ Emo's (seen em a ton but always wanted to go here)
Sat 10/7 Chris Shiflett @ Antone's (tempting...sounds like a cool venue)
Death Grips @ Emo's (sold out already, resale is around $50 right now...probably wouldn't be my wife's first pick)
Poolside DJ set @ Superstition
Charlotte Adigery & Bolis Pupul @ 3TEN ($20-25 + fees per AXS) Yves Tumor @ Scoot Inn
Sun 10/8 (probably not a good idea since we have an early flight the next morning)
Becky Hill DJ set @ Superstition

Just my thoughts, currently live here in good ol Austin. I would suggest getting tix sooner rather than closer to ACL. Not all of the shows sell out but some do and I try to avoid dealing with resale as much as possible.
If you visited Austin early 00's, the Emo's you are thinking of is no longer there. That location closed in 2011 and moved away from Red River to another location. Don't know how it compares as I never got the chance to go to the original.
Antone's is a pretty nice venue, indoors so you won't suffer. The floor space is narrow walking in then opens near the stage. Not my favorite venue in town but it's nice in its own way. Very dark and atmospheric with all the jazz and blues posters scattered around.
Superstition is a relatively new club. Seems like a very nice place to try out, I know DJ sets usually run $70 as they've gotten some pretty big names on some weekends.
3Ten is ACL Live's smaller version. It's on the cleaner side and pretty spacious. I've never had any issues there and if anything it's always been positive but there's not much that makes the venue memorable in my opinion.
Scoot Inn is an outdoor venue (good luck) but comes off super yeehaw rustic looking so it's kind of cool. Even on sold out nights its one of the more spacious venues and I've enjoyed my time there.
New Emo’s is nothing like the old Emo’s. Emo’s downtown was a dive bar with small inside stage and sweaty outdoor stage patio. I can still smell the stench of urine that surrounded that place. Saw so many great shows there though. The new spot is just an upscale typical music venue. Nothing special about it.
Well that sucks to hear cause I don't like current Emo's at all. Makes me miss Barracuda as well...
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show at barracuda that sounded good. Never went to the old emos but all the stories of the overwhelming piss smell makes me wonder why people look back so fondly on it but hey. Scoot is great
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Thank you! I ended up buying tickets to Chris Shiflett. Curious though....what do you mean by "so you won't suffer" and "good luck"? lol...humidity? cold?

With the exception of 1 ACL a few years ago, I've always found the weather to be a bit tough. Not an issue if you take precautions obviously but my group likes baking in the sun all weekend and the constant drinking surely doesn't help haha. It does get manageable towards late afternoon but not so much if you show when gates open then fight through to go to an aftershow

Ehh I can understand that. I don't think I've had a notoriously bad experience but there are scattered sets that came off like that.
If anything I just associate Barracuda with this specific set once Levitation got stormed out.
