I mean that’s fine and all, all these songs are great. I still stand by my argument that most of this is just country or classic rock adjacent. But are we okay with narrowly defining folk music strictly as (white) contemporary folk and ignoring all the other folk music traditions most of us don’t listen to or even know much about?
I mean, Odetta's not white, but you do make a fair point - we should definitely include non-contemporary folk, which, honestly, only really increases the genre's quality and importance, for me. I didn't want to go into that in my post because, in what I'm sure is contrary to how it appears, I'm not trying to be all Mr. Music Scholar Man all the time. But there is a TON of great non-Western folk out there everybody should check out if you ever have the time and inclination.
In addition, there is plenty of contemporary folk by POC. Some has already been mentioned in previous threads this Survivor - Our Native Daughters, Joy Oladokun, Valerie June, Rhiannon Giddens, Allison Russell, etc.

All this techno and country talk when we need to be talking about alternative going
i want to vote off "alternative" because it is qualitatively ill-defined, but the types of music described as early alternative is generally my favorite type of music to listen to. the type of music i can throw on at almost anytime and be happy with what comes up.

So indie is alternative music on an independent label, and alternative is indie music on a major label. Are those the definitions?
"alternative" is music about hair cuts, detachable penises, and lesser known united states presidents. "indie" is music about contemporary life in brooklyn.

once again i would like to take issue with the false advertisement of your username, as you try to push out the fun genres yet again
I happen to think guitars are more fun than computers. I don’t have to pay my bills on a guitar. Therefore, the music it produces is clearly more fun than the music produced by computers.
this is such a bizarre take.
but i do appreciate the name change. you're becoming a more honest man.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
