Yeah. I would say they have a Tom Petty/Bruce Springsteen thing going on on the recent album. I like Tom Petty but idk. I feel like there are a ton of indie rock type acts that are better.
The War on Drugs are the definition of "fine" IMO.
Wouldn't walk away from a live show at a fest but wouldn't care if i missed it either. And I rarely throw on any of their albums even though I know a few are objectively good.

I like their albums as background music - they're good but don't get me particularly excited either. Live is a different story though - saw them in the rain at that Landmark fest we went to and they were quite captivating.

The War on Drugs are sick and are pretty unique in the current indiesphere imo. Especially with their last two albums before this one, which I thought was a bit of a step down.
Feel like a lot of the albums getting an insane amount of likes are 'just fine'.
theres just so many really good albums this year that are worth recognizing imo, but not very much that’s gonna stick around in our memories years down the line

Most of the albums out this year were 'just fine'
In a year end list I didn't really expect something like Olivia Rodrigo, TWOD or King Gizz to get such a massive praise while they're all just 'okay' records. But you're right tho.

Butterfly 3000 might not be a “Great” album but it’s probably the album I’ve listened to the most front to back this year
