I'm gonna give the new Big Thief a try, but past albums have not really blown me away. Not all music's for everybody, but maybe third time's the charm. I tried to see them at Forecastle in 2017 and it was so damn hot and the songs were so slow, it was basically torture. Is that looming whenever I try to listen now? idk.
I’m a fan of theirs so I’ve been looking forward to it. If you don’t like slow chill out out music with some country vibes it might not be up your alley. It’s usually not the type of music I listen to but I love this band and seeing them live was amazing.

jesus christ this new big thief album is an hour and a half long?!
Okay, I've listened to the new Big Thief album. I enjoyed approximately 15 minutes of this album, most of which were spent when they were approximating being a country band. Using this pitchfork scale, 15/80 is about approximately a 1.8/10.0. so...final rating: 1.8. sorry, everyone.

Knowing how I feel about their previous material, I saw you post the length of their album and I'm not even going to try it lol.

Don’t sleep on the new Shamir album “Heterosexuality” it’s so gd good.
I agree. His s/t that came out in 2020 I thought had it's moments but didn't pull it all together. I was thinking this one was going to be the same way after the first few tracks but the middle and back half were quite good. He's got potential and I'm hoping for him to put out something even better.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Initial verdict on the Big Thief is that it's stellar, probably their best yet. Not sure where the backlash is coming from
“Artist on the rise, receiving near unanimous critical praise, puts out double album” is almost always a formula that’ll earn some backlash but yeah it’s fantastic.
Also wouldn’t be surprised if the stronger emphasis on folk and country isn’t what all their fans are looking for

I generally don’t care for long albums and that’ll hurt its full replayability for me, but this’ll be added to my rotation for a bit. It gets a little samey in the second half but I always find her lyrics captivating.
