Hard agree, if you like that album cool, but I think it blows. Solange and Janelle Monae have both already made that album in the last 10 or 15 years and I'm sure others have done it too. Its clearly a weak group of songs that they're trying to mask with a concept that's been done. Sorry if that's harsh.
I don’t think it blows at all, and a few tracks slap for sure. But as a cohesive album start to finish…. Idk, I’m just surprised to see it has received the most votes so far when January has been such a strong month
really surprised by these takes, but to each their own. I'm surprised anyone voted for Bonobo tbh was very disappointed after how good the pre-release run up sounded. Not his best.
Also found Earl to be really good, but not memorable kinda how he's been for years now.

After Hours was better than Dawn FM. Surprised at all the votes it’s getting. Taking the week to decide between Twigs, Earl, Gunna, Hikaru Utada, and Comeback Kid.
I'm going to catch up on all these albums today by just listening to whatever y'all have in your individual lists. So far I've listened to The Weeknd and I'm a third of the way into Twigs.
Weeknd was cool, but not my favorite from him. This is the first Twigs album I've actually liked on the first listen.
This is absolutely my favorite album of the month and an early shout for my AOTY. Rich and Tall Poppies are amazing tracks and the rest of the tracks are good to great

Stacked first week. I imagine everyone already has Mitski, BCNR, AnCo, Saba and Cate le Bon on their radar already, but be sure to check out Los Bitchos as well. Strong Khruangbin vibes if you like that sort of thing
Overall, I'm very pleased with the new Animal Collective album, Time Skiffs. It's perfect for playing in headphones, getting in the zone, and working from home. All the tracks are chill and not abrasive or difficult to handle on first listen. I don't think we'll ever get another AnCo album again that will be as impactful or game-changing as they used to create, but this is new, more mature Anco gives me hope for more great music in the future.
Also, I'm pretty sure that the beautiful final track "Royal and Desire" is about the Bywater Wonderland that's basically at the corner of Royal and Desire in the Bywater area of New Orleans. Since the song was written during their time performing at the Music Box Village, I wonder if they stayed at the Bywater Wonderland while they were here? It kinda makes that track a little more special for me since I'm in that general area a lot.
When I look back on all of AnCo's discography from 20+ years, there is something remarkably special about the albums that feature all four of them, and this one is no exception. Strong Deakin vibes here and Royal And Desire is sooo good.

new Beach House and Spoon next week too, glory days once again for a specific kind of late twentysomething who loves XMU and late 00s-era Pitchfork music (i.e. me)
