In 2014 I left Outkast after 3 songs to watch Damon Albarn's opposing set. I love Outkast, but that was such a great decision.
I was working the silent disco during that slot so I got to see both of them. I was like 33 and the other volunteers were like 20 and totally bounced from their responsibilities.
I don't know what my point is. But I dug being able to see both.
1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/4: knock2 3/7: Inhaler* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
I am very much trying to prepare myself for the inevitable blow that will be HAIM, Kendrick, Sylvan Esso, Rina, and Snail Mail being evenly distributed across the three days of the festival so that I have to either make a tough single-day choice or bite the bullet on a 3-day pass when I'm only interested (albeit very interested) in a smattering of the lineup.

Yeeeah. I still want to see Kendrick Lamar, because the only time I've seen him live was in a truncated set at Global Citizen, but there is literally one other act on Sunday I have any interest in at all.
I could mayyyybe justify Friday for HAIM and Lizzo, but that's it.
What the hell are Snail Mail, black midi, and Flipturn doing on this lineup?
Ultimately, as much as I want to see Kendrick, I don't think I'm going to spend money on this.

If you want to come scalp some tickets last minute on Sunday night to just see Kendrick Ill be there!
There will definitely be some kiddos who used their mommy and daddys credit cards to buy these tickets that they won't care how much they get back
Yeah, I think this is the strongest lineup they've put out post-pandemic. It's not for my tastes, but I can recognize that it's a good look for them in general.

watch your goddamn mouth about Flipturn!
I dig Flipturn! I'm not slamming any of those three artists I mentioned. But they are vastly in the minority as guitar bands at a heavily hip-hop/pop-focused festival. It'll be really interesting to see what turnout for them is like given all that, and GovBall's target audience. The story I always fall back on is that, in 2019, I saw Mitski at a crowded field at Boston Calling, then a week later, could've walked right up to the rail halfway through her GovBall set. Maybe I'm wrong, and these folks have a younger following...but they do stick out from the rest of the lineup.

I could actually make a pretty fun weekend out of all this. I could justify seeing Lizzo & Kendrick alone could pay for itself considering how expensive stadium tickets are for either. One of the reasons I miss concerts often is because I know I’ll likely be scheduled to work, broke, or often both!
I’m wrestling with GA vs GA+. Why would there be a non VIP space that would be halfway decent? Feels like a trap to wind up spending an extra $100. But any opportunity to escape the sun on a hot June day could be welcome.

festival map is a complete unknown so it’s a bit of a roll of the dice
