Since it doesn’t make sense to do a full lineup pool this year, I thought this could be fun
Contest: Guess the total number of returning artists in 2022
Prize: $30 record store gift card
Deadline: Midnight July 31
To enter, please DM me the following:
1. The exact number of artists from the 2020 lineup you think will be on the 2022 lineup.
2. One new headliner for 2022 (worth 5 bonus points)
3. Three artists that will be subs for 2022 (worth 3 bonus points each)
When the the new lineup comes out, I will tally the number of artists that are repeats from 2020. The closest guess (regardless of whether you go over) will win.
If you guess the headliner correctly, your score will be adjusted by 5 points (if you’re 10 over, you will only be 5 over for guessing the headliner). For each sub you correctly guess you will get 3 points adjusted. If you end up with the exact answer adjustments will stop.
First tiebreaker is total number of bonus points from 2 and 3. Second tiebreaker is first person to DM me.

I get that 2022 won't be a full new lineup but I think it would be more fun and a better challenge to still list 10-15 new acts as guesses. You could even have 25 guesses total still and even if there isn't that many new acts (though I think there will be) that still gives people more opportunities to get some right, plus there are plenty of new artists that could show up on the lineup. The way this is laid out, it's basically just guessing how many acts are returning with the 1 new headliner and 3 sub guesses as bonus points which may be too simple. The subs might stay the same too so there's not be much fun in guessing that.
I think a better challenge would be to guess 20 new acts (3 pts for 1 one headliner, 1 pt for everything else) with the first tiebreaker guessing how many acts return from 2020 (either total count or percentage) then second tiebreaker earliest submission. Just my two cents.

Ya I hear you, but people already all pick a lot of the same artists in the lineup pools, and I figure it will be even worse this year with fewer new bookings to work with. So it’s not that interesting to me, plus it’s a lot of work I don’t feel like doing.
I think this is better. Guessing 3 subheadliners is just replacing guessing 3 headliners and it can be just as difficult. We dont know if its as easy as shuffling who is still returning or if they got 3 new names.

Have Black Pumas really blows up enough to be subs? I figured they’d be bump up quite a bit from how low they were in 2020 but it doesn’t seem like they got to 2nd line level.

I feel like Black Pumas will be a 3rd line act at Coachella. Doja going from last name on the 5th line (which was odd placement to begin with) to probably top 3-4 on her day, potentially sub is nuts. This just makes me more sad that 2020 didn't happen on schedule, that undercard is a monster.

They're also from Austin so they're probably getting a higher bump at ACL. For Coachella I'm guessing third line.
Pretty confident Coachella 22 will have international acts. Maybe not in an abundance like the 2019 and 2020 line ups had, unfortunately, but they'll get some standouts still.
