a lot of my curiousity with this was to see if MMJ was still the top inforoo act, especially when put up against inforoo darling king gizz. looks like it's a close race, king gizz currently inching out MMJ by one vote.
I will be pretty devastated if this happens, so I will plan on it. Never seen MMJ but I'm dying to and for me it would be MMJ then Goose / Gizz depending on how my night is going with Sylvan Esso being my last choice. But I'd also go see SE if there was no conflict. All three of the bands are known for being great live acts which makes it that much more tough to choose

I wouldn't want to risk missing a big time MMJ LN Which show, if only because I could see them treating it as a follow up to their 08 performance. It's a very tough decision, but my bet is that the Gizz show will be no better or worse than the next show they play or the one before it. I also think this may have been more difficult directly off of ITRN. They've put out two mediocre albums since then and this most recent one seems strong (only listened once), but its a little more poppy and slow and makes me think it reduces the wild potential of a Gizz late night set.
This poll is the first time I've ever heard of Goose, would I like them?
Goose is only the second jam band I’ve ever liked. I think some of the recorded material sounds way cornier than it does live; I’d recommend just shuffling a few songs on their live Spotify playlist and you’ll figure out pretty quickly if you like it or not.
This poll is the first time I've ever heard of Goose, would I like them?
they are a hot shit "new" jamband. their first record was in 2016, but they were together before that, and their star really rose during 2020. they were able to use their small size to play a lot of drive-in or socially distanced shows or streaming shows. they are talented performers and more importantly talented songwriters. they are unapologetically a jamband, but avoid some of the sins of the genre by having a strong vocalist, good songs (not just jam vehicles), and they aren't afraid to play with the tonality or vibe of their music or use modern tools like auto-tune. they also make some really cool cover choices and have fun with their setlists.
for me personally, while i have always loved Phish and the Dead, and had moments where I flirted with other jambands, i haven't really fallen for a new jamband like I have for Goose. i only became aware of them this past January and have really gone all in. it just feels like they are doing something different. i don't know if we'll ever have a jamband that rises to the level of Phish in terms of popularity, but Goose is the number one contender right now. could be one of those "i was there when they played a tent at Bonnaroo" kind of situations.
even if you aren't a jamband fan i at least recommend giving them a shot, you might be surprised. for audio they just released a new album called "shenangians nite club". for video their goosemas video from 30 rock this past december was great:

speaking of covers, i absolutely love the choice to play, while at 30 Rock in NYC, "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher". not sure if it's something they play regularly (i don't think it is) but would be such a fabulous song to hear live with a crowd.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

triple post: forgot until i'm watching that video again, but it doesn't hurt that Goose wins the most handsome jamband award. rick in particular is a total smokeshow.

I think I'd go to MMJ to be honest. I love Sylvan Esso but I've seen them 3x (twice at Roo). I've not seen a WITH show and would love to catch that, but I've grown to like MMJ too much to not see them in this scenario. The thing with KG&LW is I absolutely love some of their albums, but like shuck said some of their stuff is not really my thing, so idk what to expect from their set. Goose is cool but I wouldn't see them above the other 3.

Man, I wrestled with this one. I am seeing MMJ two times at Forest Hills the week after Bonnaroo...but they're also one of my favorite bands in existence and I have to imagine a late-night set from them at Bonnaroo would be a pretty special thing.

I haven't actually listened to Goose yet, but I've heard a lot of good things. If they're my cup of tea at all, I'd probably pick them. I've seen MMJ and Sylvan Esso multiple times. I saw Gizz at a 100 person venue, so I just don't see bonnaroo topping that.
Assuming for argument sake of the poll that at least 2 of these would be overnight shows (3-4 hours), there would be an opportunity to see some of all the sets. If I had to pick one, which I wouldn't in that scenario, I'd go to Goose. I've seen Jacket a few times and would otherwise be at that. I liked King Gizzard when I saw them and will see them again. I don't follow them closely or care enough to listen to all 18-20(?) of their albums multiple times to get a better feel for the studio work. Absent a conflict with MMJ or Goose, I'd probably go sit in the field and get down with it. Sylvan Esso is pretty good, but it's a little on the pop side for my musical tastes. So I'd rank them 4th on the list of what I'd see. Hopefully I'll be able to pass by the tent and catch a couple songs regardlessly.

I chose MMJ, but if there's any possible way I could split MMJ and Sylvan Esso, that's what I would do. I've only seen partial sets from both once each. Preferably the first half of Sylvan Esso and the last half of MMJ. I don't really know enough about how Bonnaroo places acts in stages/tents to know if that's possible, but that would be my ideal.
Goose is good and if they don't conflict with anything else I'm interested in I'll go and probably enjoy it a lot. I don't care enough for Gizz for them to be in the running.
Edit: Actually my ideal is that MMJ and Sylvan Esso don't conflict at all...

Why would we assume something that has literally zero chance of happening
Because the poll already has zero chances of happening anyway. If you're going to vote, and I did, there are certain caveats that would conceivably need to be addressed.

You can definitely split time between each. I do think a MMJ/SE conflict is inevitable, unless they switch it up and don't make the Superjam late night. Personally I try not to split my time between acts, as I feel I can't get fully invested if I'm not seeing it from beginning to end, especially since those are often the best parts. But that's just me. MMJ might get a longer set, so hopefully if anything I can see all of Sylvan Esso then catch the last bit of MMJ.

Good point about being immersed in a set. For me it depends on how bad I want to see a certain act or if I end up getting drawn in. Otherwise, I never mind seeing a few songs here and there or stopping by to pay respects to a legend or something. At a festival, there will be several acts I'll see start to finish but not all of them. Smaller acts in 2019 like that were The Comet Is Coming, Kikagaku Moyu and Little Simz. I intended to see all 3 of those in their entirety. Many others were pass-bys for different reasons (maybe I wanted to catch a song or two, maybe I was moving across the fields and liked what I was hearing or whatever).

concur with this. this poll is an impossible nightmare scenario, but some choices will have to be made, and SE vs. MMJ seems like the most likely conflict. it's completely possible that king gizzard isn't late night, and I think it's not just possible but maybe even likely that Goose isn't late night.

I agree, I actually don't see Goose getting late night. Just because I think MMJ is almost a certainty for LN Which, with SE being in a tent, so I think they'll want a couple more varied options in the other tent rather than a long Goose set. There are some good LN candidates that day. Also because I think Disco Biscuits will get a long LN set Friday, so I see them switching it up Saturday.
