They do look like total dads, and I came in skeptical, but they also seem like total performers. Just passionate, completely immersed in what they're doing. I'm sold. I admit that I wasn't a fan of them eleven years ago when they headlined, or some of the bands that claimed inspiration from them in the years afterward, but I finally get it now.

they started out as a punk band, most of Licensed to Ill were dumb party songs they didn’t like. For Check Your Head and Ill Communication, they rented a cabin and learned how to play. You should watch the doc.

If you’re interested in getting into Beasties, do Check Your Head and Ill Comm. order doesn’t matter since they were recorded basically in the same sessions. Paul’s Boutique is good. Licensed to Ill has a lot more good songs than it’s credited for (Shes Crafty, The New Style).
