Assuming things continue to progress the way they have been, it wouldn't surprise me if Coachella is officially cancelled/moved before the end of this week (so the 14th). I hope I'm wrong, but what this has done to Italy in only a week is insane.
I was out at this benefit block party thing for the owner of a bar and pizza restaurant near where I live. I ran into Ivan Neville and told him what’s up. I went to shake his hand and he went to fist bump me whereas he’d usually shake hands and say what’s up. So I told him the Corona Fist. And he was like this is the new shit check it out. He toe bumped me tennis shoe to tennis shoe and threw an elbow my way. I ran into him a bit later and gave it back. Lmfao. My Sharona sucked bad enough. I don’t need my corona.
Well, CRSSD was packed today. Coronavirus didn't discourage anyone from showing up and the vibes seemed the same as always. The only difference was that there were a bunch more soap dispensers than usual and they were all over the place.

I have some friends I always do the "elbow bump" with. I like it as a greeting, you still make human contact but you have to bend in an unusual way to do it, so it makes you both feel a bit silly.

:david attenborough voice: You see ladies and gentlemen, years of navigating crusty lot wooks with haphazard, inadequate personal hygiene have made some phans the most resilient to infectious agents that may otherwise wreak havoc on the general population. They weren't slowed by the plague and many experts believe that some of their self-protection strategies adopt the whimsical nature of the band itself.
Okeechobee going on as planned this week has to be a good sign right?
CRSSD as well. Not to be annoying here but what I don’t understand is how is this anymore dangerous than the common flu? Would events be more safe in the the fall when flu season begins? It’s spreading and will inevitably land in most areas. Should we avoid those places as well? How does one avoid everywhere?

15-20% of cases require hospitalization. The virus also is considerably more contagious than the flu, and can be spread even when you are asymptomatic and don't know you have it yet (this period can be as long as two weeks for some people). Some people are hoping that a change in seasons will slow the virus's spread, but so far there doesn't seem to be any evidence of that. While healthy people shouldn't be afraid to leave the house, those infected should certainly self-quarantine for a couple weeks.

Went to M3F in Phoenix this weekend to catch Bon Iver and noticed they had extra hand sanitization stations spread out across the festival, but everything else was business as normal. Coachella is still probably screwed just based on media scrutiny alone. The average person/politician has no idea that these smaller fest exists, but most people know about Coachella. I know it’s selfish of me to say, but I hope Goldenvoice says either close the mouse or we go about our business as planned.

If the city of Indio says no then they don’t have any say at all.

This is the question I’m asking myself as an NYC resident after our Governor recommended avoiding large crowds. The city, itself, is a large crowd
Austin officials on Friday: SXSW is cancelled and we are declaring a local disaster Austin officials on Saturday: Now is the time that we should be going out and supporting local restaurants, clubs and bars
I know cancelling SXSW was mostly about preventing visitors from elsewhere but this still makes them seem a little silly.

I get that but from a political standpoint that’s the argument I would make. I realize they aren’t in the same county, but I’m tired of a bunch of people making one off decisions and not standardizing the approach because it accomplishes nothing but inflict financial burden on certain industries.

This whole situation in Austin has been upside down and backwards...Feel really bad for all the local businesses there.

You could assume GV is getting all the ammo they can to keep itself alive from being stopped. The LA Marathon was today, hows that lower risk than the festival? And add in a Lakers game at Staples that just ended and thats all in the proximity of downtown LA given the circumstances. But its allowed to carry on. Yes, the NBA is compiling contingency plans from every franchise to have games with no audience if need be, but we arent there yet.
Okeechobee, M3F and CRSSD have to get into the headlines as much as possible after this weekend and show that there were zero incidents and that attendees were fine and had a good time. The industry is likely paying attention but big media has to get onboard as well. You can argue the numbers game all you want but if 25,000 people gathered in one area isnt a good enough example of being able to operate an event without issues, than I dont know what other kind of Litmus test you need.
Indio isnt going to have that ability if Coachella and Stagecoach are stopped. Who will go there except a tennis or golf tournament. Austin and Miami just pretty much went to business as usual.
I'm an idiot in a lot of ways but I think booking something with free cancellation before prices skyrocket is a pretty easy way to save hundreds of dollars with no risk.

It has an incubation period of up to 14 days so people that attended wouldn't even know if they got it for 2 weeks, there are tens of thousands of people that attended, and no reasonably accurate way to track whether anyone came in infected or left infected.
So you want these festivals to put out press releases out making a triumphant pronouncement for something that they have absolutely no way of knowing whether it's accurate, and which they may have to completely backtrack from 2 weeks later? Are you insane?
The primary reason the U.S. numbers are so low is because there's a massive shortage of test kits and very few people are being tested. For all the organizers know, one infected person could have infected hundreds or thousands of other people at any of those festivals, and the source could come back come back to them any time and then they've destroyed their entire festival/brand.
I mean come on this is Trump-level thinking. Pull your head out.
Some viruses are slowed by heat and humidity. That’s why they are seasonal. Covid-19 has shown no such indication, so far.
I receive the Tennessee health alert network updates since I’m a Pharmacist. There are several companies in various stages of testing a vaccine. Some are closer than others, but even at the earliest we are looking at 6 months to a year. Inovio seems to be the closest with their DNA based vaccine Ino-4800. They plan on starting human trials in April and have already started mass producing it.
Edit-their stock has soared but I don’t advise investing yet. Those trials could go haywire.
Have you heard anything about the supercomputer's (It's called Summit) results from Knoxville/Oak Ridge? They think they might be on to the start of maybe one day being something with this. Also, thanks for your knowledge on this topic.
