My wife said it was very sudden - like someone flipping off a light switch.
Yeah, I think the chipotle was just poorly seasoned
new game show idea: you test contestants for covid-19 but keep the results secret. for the show you make them eat and they have to guess if they have covid-19 or is the food just poorly seasoned.
FDA has advised vaccine developers that they must monitor half of clinical trial participants for at least two months following their final dose of vaccine or placebo before applying for emergency authorization. FDA has also told vaccine developers that they should wait to apply until at least five severe cases of Covid-19 have been reported among trial participants receiving the placebo.
Well shit. Five participants getting the placebo have to get a severe case of COVID before they can get emergency authorization for FDA approval. I am NOT volunteering for that.
Don't the leading phase three trials include 30,000 participants? 5 cases out of 15,000 people in the control group doesn't sound like a lot. Especially since they intentionally chose people that are at risk for exposure and not those locked up in their house 24/7. You'd expect this group of people to have a higher infection rate than the population as a whole. I guess it depends on how they are defining severe.

Alice took two tests today, a regular and a rapid. She got a negative on the rapid.
I have felt like shit, head hurts, no appetite, tummy issues all day, and it was all stress. I'm still a little stressed but I feel 97% better. Once I get my negative results I'll be happy.
Edit to say thejeremy cooked and I was able to eat for the first time since I found out I might have been exposed.
@people who had covid: did your sense of taste slowly fade or was it like suddenly you didn’t taste stuff. I went freakin everywhere for work a couple days ago and just had a chipotle burrito that seemed like it had less flavor
For me, it was more of a nasty metallic taste instead of no taste and everything I ate or drank tasted terrible for a couple of days. It started with waking up one morning with that taste in my mouth already. It's hard to tell if it was sudden or not since it happened overnight but I don't recall anything tasting odd the night before.
wow, now that you say that, I believe that was literally my first symptom, possibly even before the headache.

Love In The Time Of Rona:
I was at the grocery store today. I noticed a lady and was noticed she was an attractive one. I then realized that she wasn't wearing a mask at all. In a grocery store. All the thoughts of attraction instantly disappeared.

Yeah, at this point if I know you voted for Trump or you disbelieve science and think Covid is no big deal that's a clear deal-breaker for me. I just can't imagine being with someone who thinks this shit.
Imagine being a person, that after 211,000 Americans have died, you still think it's a hoax and refused to wear a mask. Like how do you justify that honestly?
Why are we assuming that someone not wearing a mask in a grocery store thinks COVID is a hoax? There's so much pigeonholing and leaps being made like this, all the time. I say this as someone who puts on a mask to go take the trash out.

Better? Because I don't really care why you don't want to wear one, I only know why you should. And being selfish isn't an excuse. Fuck those assholes

I don't care what they believe. They need to have a mask on.

Do you think that she was hot but was like missing an ear or something?

Because I’ve had someone in a grocery store not wearing a mask tell me to my face it’s a hoax. And laugh at me, a health care worker, for wearing one.
We have masks at the front of the store. Free if you need one. We also provide, FREE of charge, click it. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask you can order your groceries online and they bring it out to you and put it in your trunk. You never have to get out of your vehicle. I’ve even gone outside and given someone a flu shot through the car window.
And yet, dip shits keep shopping with no mask on. So pardon me if I treat them like the idiots that they are.
I'm sorry you guys are so bothered at people not wearing masks. I drive down the street, walk down my apartment hallway, whatever - I see people not wearing masks. In Southern California. Yes, it can be frustrating. I'm sorry. It sucks. All I can do is wear my mask and set an example for others. That's all I can do, and that's all you can really do too.
And I understand that to some degree this is a place to vent frustrations. So I hope we can get our frustrations out here and feel better afterwards, not worse.
My girlfriend's father passed away from COVID over the weekend. He was already very sick. She's handling it surprisingly well. I never had the chance to meet him (they didn't have a very close relationship). We watched him pass away peacefully on Zoom. It's really sad. But I think we both understand that all we can do is set a good example for others. I'm sorry if this doesn't sit well with some of you but this is where I'm currently at.

Interesting tidbit on something I hadn't thought of. The big bands that incorporate themselves at least have this availability. Idk that I've seen a lot of "BLANK and BLANK collecting unemployment" but they probably could. I know Radiohead LLCs pretty much all their tours and albums.
At my work, masks aren't mandatory. Visitors are supposed to wear them, but sometimes don't. The employees meanwhile, its basically discouraged. Most of them, unsurprisingly, are Trump supporters. They're all crazy.
I tend to wear it most often out of everyone, and even then it's about 10% of time. Usually if there's a delivery or pickup, I put it on.
Masks are required at my work (and by the state) for employees and for guests in public areas of the hotel except for the pool. (We have the pool set up for only one guest room to use it at a time.) Technically, I'm supposed to wear a mask even when I'm alone in my office but that seems like overkill even for me since nobody is ever in my office but me. (I put one on if someone approaches it, though.)
I've gotten into it occasionally with guests who allege that they medically cannot wear masks but at least there is a three+ foot desk between them and our associates as well as a glass partition and our associate are masked up. (We also have them available at the desk if needed.) There is minimal reason for guests to be in public areas except entering or exiting the building and we're not cleaning any occupied guest rooms.
Going on seven months of operation and only one positive situation (a hotel guest) that did not lead to any additional cases.
Oh I forgot to mention my test came back negative today and Alice's second test came back negative.
Kelly's two daughters and husband came back positive. Her youngest, her son, is the only negative test in the house (for how long?).
I've turned down going to the spirit Halloween store because I'm tired of maskholes that don't care about others. I feel like this latest scare might have made me even more introverted.
Results came back negative! Whole Foods requires us to be off for 10 days regardless of the test result though, so it looks like we get a little staycation now.

My wife is a teacher. She had a cold and the department of health made her get tested and stay home but when she got negative results back the school reimbursed her sick time. So that's cool...

Do they pay you?
My partner gets paid, since he was in direct contact with the positive person, but I don’t since my quarantine was considered “voluntary.”

One of my best friends tested positive Saturday and was admitted to the hospital last night. They're starting her on Remdesivir. She's a bit older than me and has had some health problems in the past, so I'm nervous but trying to keep my thoughts positive. If you can spare a good thought for a wonderful stranger, please send one her way <3
Results from the clinical study will help researchers understand whether rapid results testing could be a useful tool in screening for infections at large-scale events.
A trial concert is taking place this month in Barcelona to compare the accuracy of new rapid-result Covid-19 tests against polymerase chain reaction tests.
Primavera Sound is organizing a "pilot concert" in collaboration with Barcelona's Hospital Germans Trias and the Fight AIDS And Infectious Diseases Foundation (FLSIDA) to assess the efficacy of recently developed rapid result Covid-19 tests, El Mundo reports.
The 1,000-person clinical trial is taking place in the nightclub Sala Apolo at the end of October. It will compare new antigen detection tests, which deliver results in 15 minutes, against the performance of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, which have become standard throughout the pandemic.
Once inside, participants won't have to keep a distance of two meters from one another, but wearing masks, except when consuming a beverage, and frequent hand sanitizer use will be mandatory. The lineup has not yet been revealed.
All concert-goers will take the rapid antigen test, and half will also undergo the PCR test. Only those with negative results from the rapid antigen test will be permitted to enter the venue. Eight days after the event, everyone who attended will go through another round of rapid testing, with the same half as before taking PCR tests. FLSIDA will closely monitor anyone with positive results after this second round of testing.
If proven effective, these rapid tests could come to play a significant role in preventing the number of infection clusters stemming from events and large gatherings in the time before a vaccine is widely available.
In the United States, many in the private market have already started relying on rapid testing as a safety precaution for gatherings, the New York Times reports. Experts, however, are expressing concern about how useful this is. Due to the virus' two-week incubation period, one can easily get a negative result, even after having been recently exposed. The city of New York's deputy commissioner of disease control Dr. Demetre Daskalakis described negatives from rapid tests as "not definitive," and told the newspaper they re-test all negatives gleaned from this method a second time before results are considered conclusive.
In August, Germany held three indoor pilot concerts for a total of 1,500 volunteers for a live music study called Restart-19. The study's aim was more general than Spain's rapid-testing focus, with each concert using varying safety measures.
