Saw someone suggest Bridgewater could get 30 a year, which is also a clear case of just desserts.
I think Rivers should be the biggest signing, with Brady/Brees staying put, and then honestly everyone else doesn't really excite me. Someone's gonna end up with an Osweiler here.
(to jmm) Would you have said the same thing about Lamar Jackson, or can he ever be paid enough money? Hill is a beast, he just hasn't done it full time since college.
Here's what I think happens:
1) Brees signs a straight 1 year deal or gets a 2 year deal with some dead cap money (assuming he's only coming back for one year), it doesn't solve the problem long term.
2) Bridgewater is going to walk and hopefully get paid handsomely. He's a better person than he is a quarterback, but he's probably in the 20-25 range if you had to rank starting NFL QB's. I'm a big fan of his and plan to cheer for him from a distance unless he goes to one of my most hated teams and then I just won't grudge him.
3) As a restricted free agent, Hill gets a first round tender and seeks offers from other teams. Depending on how bad someone wants him and how bad they front-load the contract depends on whether or not we will be able to match. Saints are fucked and will have to drop some starting players this offseason just to be able to compete again. If there is a way to retain Hill, Coach Payton will do so and appoint him the heir for the remainder of his coaching term. If we can't afford it because someone makes him an outrageous offer or front-loads the contract in order to fuck us, we let him walk and pick up that extra first round pick. This means we don't have shit for backup and could be in a precarious position should Brees get injured again.
dude's thrown 13 passes in his entire career and is about to turn 30. he ain't a starting caliber QB
Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. Nobody knows yet. But if you don't think there will be interest, or if you don't think he could start for us and be in the upper echelon statistically, I think you'll be proven wrong.
If Brees and Bridgewater walk go ahead and pull those 'Aints paper bags out of the closet
Brees said today he was coming back which was probably why Dave brought it up. I don't think any Saints' fan has any trepidation about Taysom Hill starting as our quarterback. It would usher in an entirely different offense, and we'd need to sign a new gunner and punt block specialist. But that's a trade-off we are willing to make.
Good to see the Arguably [tm] second best receiver in football [tm] is trotting out the one stat he leads in for the last 3 years. He's an elite receiver in the class of Julio Jones, Keenan Allen and if he can do it for another couple of years, Chris Godwin. Those are the receivers likely to be battling for second best (c) over the next several years.
