video for "creep" was also the first time i heard radiohead. loved the song but a friend got "pablo honey" and it wasn't that good. assumed radiohead would be a one hit wonder.
completely ignored "the bends" when it came out. remembering seeing a clip of an interview with a young thom yorke talking about it and thought he sounded like a crazy person.
"ok computer" comes out and starts getting tons of positive critical attention. i was really into blur at the time so was open to the british pop thing, and OKC's album cover looked cool, i think i bought it without hearing any songs, i know i didn't see any videos. airbag > paranoid android hooked me and that started my often rocky but ultimately positive relationship with radiohead.

Would be very into an Inforoo thread where we create primer guides/playlists for people who somehow have never really listened to [insert famous band/artist].

Has that been done before?
not to my knowledge, is a cool idea though. OP would have to keep the first post updated, also might be hard to arrive at a consensus for certain acts.

I remember sitting in the music store and listening to Pablo Honey. It was meh. I was part of Columbia House and got The Bends CD (along with 11 others) for a penny.
Creep had to be the first song I heard and I believe I had Pablo Honey. I didn't really become a fan until hearing Kid A. Then I went back to OKC and The Bends.
Having someone listen to Idioteque on I Might Be Wrong Is a great Radiohead gateway.
I only know this song because an ol’ favorite band of mine did a live acoustic cover of that song. It should surprise none of Inforoo that I prefer the cover to the actual tune.
does anyone have, or have ideas of where i can get, copies of the Bonnaroo 2003 and 2004 schedules? Those were my first bonnaroos and i'd love to see a schedule to try and remember how my days went.

Wish I knew where my 04 one went. I had it with me for a long time but I think my wife purged it during one of our later moves.
I'm always amazed when I can't find something that 80K people had on the internet.

me too.
wikipedia has the artists by day/stage listed from earliest set times to latest set times, so that is something.
in 2003 i think i showed up late friday and left sunday afternoon, i think i had school or something. i know i saw Neil Young & Crazy Horse headline that night, and Sound Tribe Sector 9 late night That Tent (Mike Gordon sat in). Saturday I know I saw the Allman Brothers > Z-Trip > Widespread Panic on Saturday What, but I also have memories of seeing The Roots on the Which, can't imagine I skipped Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon at This, or MMW late night This. And I have a memory of walking into Centeroo early Sunday morning and Particle was still playing, fairly certain I saw North Mississippi Allstars before I left.
In 2004, Friday I know I saw Wilco and Dave & Trey on What. Can't imagine I skipped Yonder and String Cheese on Which but I'm not sure. Same with Vida Blue late night That. Saturday I imagine I saw Gov't Mule on What, definitely saw MMJ Which afternoon (Phil Lesh walked by me in the crowd). Definitely saw Kings of Leon open That Tent, clear memory of that. Definitely skipped The Dead to hang out at camp before Ween late night, did not see Primus. Sunday saw moe and David Byrne, left before Trey.
I think I look at the artists that played and want to remember that I saw more than I did, but the truth is I probably just spent a lot of time at camp drinking and smoking and sitting in chairs being on mushrooms.
Didn't go in 03. Was supposed to go to the North East version but it obviously got cancelled.
From what I can remember in 04...
Friday: Los Lonely Boys > Ani DiFranco > Bob Dylan > Dave Matthews and Friends
Saturday: Hackensaw Boys > Mindy Smith > Beth Orton > worst blackout drunk of my life > Primus
Sunday: Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra > Marc Broussard > moe. > Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven > Guster > Superjam > Trey Anastasio
There is more that I saw but I'm not sure what the schedule was for Yet Another Tent since it's not in the Wiki. I know that I saw Jem, Antigone Rising and Rachel Yamagata there. It's weird that they pretend that that tent doesn't exist.

My 2004 was something like this: friday: los lonely boys > wander around > yonder mountain string band > wilco > north mississipppi allstar > bob dylan > dave and friends > umphrey's mcgee
saturday: kings of leon > Gov't Mule > MMJ > steve winwood > galactic. i'm pretty sure it was pouring down rain at this point and the schedule got really wonky. the Dead didn't go on until late. I wandered around between ween/primus/robert randolph late night. Primus was so quacking loud and Les Claypool told everyone he ate a bunch of mushrooms and was feeling weird and I was right there with him.
Sunday: we spent a good period of sunday morning getting our car unstuck from mud. it was miserable. got unstuck, packed up and drove to Tullahoma TN, right outside of Manchester to my friend's grandparents house. Showered, ate food, and drove back and just parked in a random patch of dry grass behind the What stage wall. Got there in time for cracker/camper van beethoven > moe. > guster > david byrne > maroon 5 (cancelled) > david byrne > superjam > listened to Trey from the roof of the car as it started pouring down rain again.
overall it was pretty great weekend but we were woefully unprepared and survived because we were camped next to a couple of retired old heads who had a few tours under their belt and helped us out.
You've got What openers playing an hour and a half and yet posters regularly argue that Bonnaroo schedules acts for 45 minutes because that's all they can play. Bands these days...
