Billboard Q: “Who else is on the list?” (List referring to out of left field bookings like Village People, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Merle Haggard)
Riot Fest A: “I can’t say that -- it’ll take the surprise out. We talked to a bunch of them…. I know one and he books out really early. So we already have an offer in on him for next year. And we know it’s gonna pop. People will go bananas.”
My guess is Rick Astley.
Speaking of reunions, I found this article published almost a year ago, before the 2019 lineup release, and have to laugh at it now:
“This punk-dad late-summer camp is always going to be a place where you can expect to see either Bad Religion or Social Distortion every year, and that’s fine. But like Coachella before it, Riot Fest also became a little too reliant on big-time names. And, well, we’re running out of past. Who’s left that can get this audience excited? Look, it’s just not going to happen with Bikini Kill, Operation Ivy, or Fugazi. It’s too soon to expect Girls, My Chemical Romance, or Rilo Kiley to reunite. I wouldn’t rule out Hole, but otherwise, we’ve tapped this resource.”

[br [ MCR was an expensive grab so I don’t think they would get both The Strokes and Pumpkins this year.
I don't think MCR would be THAT more expensive than the likes of The Cure, NIN, or No Doubt, which have all been #1's before.
If I’m not mistaken, The Cure and No Doubt headlined while Riot Fest was still set on scaling up (they played a bigger park than they do now; they were still hosting festivals in Toronto and Denver; etc).

No Doubt was the first year in their current venue (that year also had System of a Down as a headliner).
1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/4: knock2 3/7: Inhaler* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
1. I would be so so so psyched about a Wiggles show at Riot, no joke. 2. Rage will have a HUGE crowd at Lolla to start, then as soon as people realize they don't actually like them it'll shrink a lot
Any chance for NiN again? I saw they were here in 2017 but a MCR-NiN combo would have me here in a heart beat.
NIN was booked to be at all of the Primavera Sound weekends but that fell through since Trent was having another kid and another film score. Theyve got the hall of fame performance in April and Trent had stated they wanted to do a few shows this year and mess around with some new music. Doesnt seem the best choice to have them at Riot doing a bunch of new songs. And if they did play it would make Primavera look kinda foolish for putting them aside for another year.
And they played last year. Only TBS, Andrew WK, and GWAR get that kind of treatment.
I figured last year’s set into that. I wasn’t there last year but assume it was full band. Going full band to super stripped down and playing an album that any emo kid who was in high school in the early 2000s would know word for word. Seems like a big enough change to bring someone back 2 years in a row. (And Dashboard might as well be TBS.)

Woahhh there, I'd argue TBS is much more consistently relevant than Dashboard
