Another dead end and another excellent headliner thrown by the wayside. Would make so much sense with no Camden dates, but who the hell knows what this fest is doing anymore.
I wouldn't count them completely out. It's Indiana, not India; but the fact that they're playing Maryland in July could be the nail in the coffin. What do I know?

I just don't see them playing three nights in a row...Oh well. My excitement for the last 18 hours was cool I guess.

Don't feel bad. I had my hopes set on MCR for the last two months =(

Lol appreciate it. Again - this worries me for FF's headliners. I honestly convinced myself that after last year's lineup, they HAD TO target a different demographic. I also convinced myself that DMB was the answer. They have a cult following and beer sales would definitely return to normal. However - what options does this leave us with?
Rage (coincide with Boston Calling) - Tame - Lizzo?

Undercard better send me to another planet...
Rage would be such a let down with all of this build up. We know they're touring, we know they're playing at least 2 festivals so far, and we're (I'm) not excited for them.

Speak for yourself. Rage would turn this fest around and stop the hemorrhaging

Yeah not sure how Rage wouldn’t be exciting because they’re already playing “two shows.” This fest isn’t known for exclusive gets, last years headliners were Post, Travis and Panic at the disco. The optimism in this thread for Firefly is amazing lol
Rage is cool but a lot of people aren’t down with it. I feel like it’s similar to Tool. Odds are you love them, hate them, or haven’t heard them.
The people on this site seem to be slightly older than the college aged kids Firefly has been attracting the last few years. The biggest question is simply WHO Firefly wants to pull in.
A lineup with Rage and Lizzo would have two headliners that appeal to largely different markets. This seems ideal in that you pull in both crowds, but idk. I feel like there must be people that like either, but dislike the other and wouldn’t be as interested in taking the trip to Firefly without a little more motivation.
The other headliners and the undercard would have to be a spread of bands that get dicks hard on forums like this, while also appealing to the SoundCloud rap lil xan/post Malone crowds.
They could also try the Hail Mary of booking a lineup that would appeal to mid 20’s/30’s and on with some throwbacks and alt-rock artists from the 00’s-early 10’s when alt-indie was huge, and then throw a few bones to the high school/college kid’s and just hope they will show up anyway.
And I think the high school/college crowd will show up no matter what. Dover was picked because of it’s proximity to multiple major metro areas. Over the last few years, it seems quite apparent that for a lot of that younger crowd Firefly was less about the music and more about just getting fucked up.
I’m not saying ALL younger people are there for that reason, but it seems like a large portion were quite content to be absolutely wrecked and wandering around as long as they has 1-2 things to see.
At this point I feel like the headliners for FF have to be outside the box, which I said it would have to be a week or two ago.
With pretty much every competing fest having a lineup out already, and most of them garnering a lot of excitement, Firefly seems like it would really need to come out of left field with some shit people aren’t expecting.
I don’t feel like looking, but are Dead & Company still a thing? I’ve seen a few artists that were supposed to play Woodstock pop up places. The Black Keys at Shaky, Miley at Governor’s Ball and Roo are the two big ones that come to mind.
Who knows, Tame Impala got boosted to headliner at Coachella last year because someone dropped out. Maybe another band will get that nod this year because of a cancelation.
They might not be THE most popular band, but I think anyone that has seen a Portugal. The Man performance over the last year or two would agree, why not give them a shot? Feel It Still was huge, their live show is pretty amazing, and given a headliner spot I know they would go harder than they ever have before. Probably okay about 2 hours minimum.
Maybe even a double billing on like Friday, with PTM and Cage as the “headlining” bands, and then a stellar edm act as a late night closer.
More immediately recognizable sure, but Tool and Rage have both headlined festivals. Roo obviously thought enough people would be into Tool to book them as a headliner this year, and Boston Calling did in 2017.

Roo is a completely different festival than firefly though. I don't think tool would fly with the firefly crowd

I wasn’t even saying Firefly would/should/could book Tool. That’s my mistake for giving that impression. I just mentioned Tool alongside RATM because they seem to be a band a lot of people on these forums/subreddits praise, and they are active at the time so who knows. Do I think it will happen? No. But I’m not a soothsayer so I can never be %100.
Roo and Firefly haven’t always been quite as different as they are now, and that’s what I meant when I said the question is WHO Firefly is really trying to target. They can pump the breaks and go back to a 2012-2014 more alt-rock heavy lineup, or keep trudging forward with a large swath of varying genres that rely on booking respected artists in those genres if you want to pull it off.
I respect when lineups have varied genres and a bit of something for everyone, but imo FF whiffed, especially last year, at having a diverse AND quality lineup. They covered different genres but didn’t have the cream of the crop imo. Too many repeat acts, none of them really deserving to be booked again over artists that hadn’t been there.

Just my opinion. His voice makes me cringe. I'm sure theres someone you would also be disappointed in headlining.
