Gaga just won a grammy earlier this year for that song from a star is born.
But that wasn't even a pop song? Going back a little further, 'Joanne' wasn't really a pop-based album either was it.
GaGa was the natural heir to Madonna for a bit; her little monsters are legion and dedicated. She's a bonafied pop star and pretty much anything she does is gonna be considered pop. Also, Joane was nominated for a pop grammy and the title track won her one. Gaga is pop and near the top of list.
Once you’re a pop star anything you make is pop imo
That's bs cause it'd mean that you'd stick to only that type of music for the rest of your career, which in most cases might be true because most pop stars like rappers don't have such a long run time in the mainstream but it's a shitty view to have. Gaga litteraly started with Pokerface, Paparazzi and Bad Romance and does country like music nowadays, not to forget the jazz record/tour she did with Tony Bennett.

Grammy noms are a shitty argument and you know that.
edit: Ofcourse she's a pop star but she's not doing the same stuff anymore in comparison to ten years ago, which I'm hinting at.

Country musicians can be pop stars (Garth Brooks), rappers can be pop stars (Drake), r&b artists can be pop stars (Beyoncé). Pop isn’t a musical genre that stands on its own against all the others.

Timberlake, Swift, Miley, Shania Twain are all pop stars that did the country thing at some point in their careers. Just being a pop artist doesn't mean your style can't change, or that you are constrained to one sound. And pop itself "changes" in styles. Tony Bennet is like the original American pop artist. Motown was a pop machine. Norah Jones showed you could be a pop star with low key jazz ballads. Madonna's like a virgin and ray of light are light-years apart. Gaga's little monsters are legion and whenever she puts puts something out it will be notable in the pop scene.

Is Bjork pop still? Stuff from Debut and Post I'd say definitely fall under the umbrella, but I'd struggle to understand anyone applying that label to Vulnicura or Utopia

Also I think a star that makes pop music is a pop star, but you can be a pop star without making pop music. Pop music as a genre has a certain aesthetic to it that is linked to what's popular at the time, but a pop star is someone who's reached a certain pinnacle of mainstream popularity regardless of whether or not their music fits the pop aesthetic.

Pitchfork went back and reviewed most of Taylor Swift's old albums today. What does everyone think of Taylor Swift? Interested in both positive and negative hot takes, just general pot-stirring stuff

I still don’t like her. I Knew You Were Trouble is the only song I’ve ever cared for
I never got around to listening to reputation, I should do that. But I played 1989 quite a bit I feel like, and she has a lot of older hits that I really enjoy. Not enough where I'd pay the absurd prices to see her in concert though

Okay this Taylor album is honestly banging. I cannot stand her first two singles from this, but there's plenty of other great shit on here. Early favs are Cruel Summer (the St. Vincent produced track), Death by a Thousand Cuts, and The Archer.
