So I chatted w a woman late at the STS9 show last night who showed 50 of the acts that were already booked and I would have bought a ticket right then and there. STS9 being one of them along w Vince Staples, Griz, Parquet Courts, Japanese Breakfast. I dont remember HL caliber acts but they may not have been booked yet. I had a few drinks so my memory wasn't ideal and it happened so quick. This thing sounds like its gonna be expensive but it is backed by the city of san diego. Water front w secret shows and water taxis.
I've always wanted to visit San Diego- heard nothing but good things from folks who have visited. A multi-genre festival that appeals to a wide age range, right in downtown, sounds very attractive. An ACL-like lineup (but on a smaller scale) would get our attention. Water taxis and boardwalks between stages, though, sounds ripe for pedestrian bottlenecks. We'll see...

Anyone familiar with downtown waterfront SD?
Yeah I live down here. It looks like a pretty open space that they are planning on having it. If a majority of stages are set up around waterfront park, there shouldn’t be too many issues. They just had the Bernie rally and they have other festivals like CRSSD at the same venue.

Very relieved to hear the planned acts listed above are nothing like what Kaaboo books.
I am ALL IN on this, sounds rad as fuck, and love that they're going to encourage people to spend money at bars and restaurants downtown inbetween sets. Hopefully they can nail the logistics, which sound nightmarish, but I'm very excited to give it a shot. Sounds like we should get the lineup in a couple weeks.

Oh damn you are right, it looks like it will be through seaport village into downtown. In that case, I have no idea how this will work lol. But I completely agree, this sounds much more exciting than what they usually have at Kaaboo. San Diego deserves a proper music festival

The logistics do sound possibly nightmareish, some of those stages are pretty far apart and I'm not sure how they'll be able to keep non-festival-goers out? That said, I live here and I'm definitely interested in giving it a shot if the lineup looks any bit appealing!

Seems like all of those areas could be pretty easily quarantined and have like a wristband check or something (similar to what they do in Gaslamp on St. Patricks' Day and stuff like that)

LiB is built within the city but its a square. This looks very long. Would it be quite a hoke from one end to the other?

I'm thinking they don't actually have a completely contained festival, they have islands of festival if that makes sense. Block off each stage location but leave the space in between open to the public.
It'll be interesting to see what they come up with; in theory they could just close off that whole part of the bayfront but it would be really long, like you're saying

One of the articles I read mentioned how they wanted to give a boost to local businesses by increasing the foot traffic in the area. Having a long enclosed area sectioned off would seem counterintuitive to bringing in extra foot traffic but having it remain open and scanning in and out of stages seems like a logistical nightmare.
It all depends on how you implement (if every stage has 20 gates, could imagine it going pretty quickly) and how you schedule (if you stagger things to smooth the traffic out, I can imagine it being not terrible)
There's definitely more ways to do it wrong than there are to do it right, though

Agree with all of this. I’m not sure what they are going for. It sounds like they are trying to replace street scene, but I’m not sure how it’s going to work with water taxis etc. Plus, on the website it says to bring your skateboard or bike or whatever to get from stage to stage so that will be interesting. It’s too bad they weren’t able to do this on Fiesta Island. Always thought that would be a good spot for a festival.

Wonderfront replied to my question on their Facebook post and said the lineup will be released "next month" so I guess we have to wait until June -- unless they didn't realize today was the fist.

Artists are getting announced June 3rd between 3pm and 5pm.
Artists to be Announced! Trevor Hoffman and Tony Hawk to be in Attendance
At Side Bar June 3, 2019, 3-5PM
Check your emails at 3:30pm for the announcement!
WHAT: Event to showcase the announcement of the 80+ bands participating in the 3-day music, culinary and arts festival taking place on 7+ stages all along the downtown San Diego waterfront
80 bands, 7 stages, 3 days? That's like 4 acts per stage each day. Maybe that's how they're going to keep the traffic at any one stage from getting overwhelming - conflicting everything. I'm sure they'll be staggered at least somewhat but if they're really doing 7 stages with 80 bands, doesn't sound like you'll be able to see more than ~5 acts a day.

I think the stages will have a lot of downtime because they want people to spend money at bars/restaurants between sets. That's why the city is backing this and it's not a self-contained festival.
