We are doing two NBA themed drafts at once (both draft concepts detailed below). In both drafts, we are creating a starting 5 + 3 bench players. You do not have to follow traditional NBA positions. Draft 5 centers if you want! Your bench players do not have to have been Bench players in real life. You do not have to determine a player's position when you draft them. You can set your lineup after the draft is over.
All Time NBA Draft: All NBA players from history are available to be drafted. All players are assumed to be in their prime.
Current NBA Draft: All current NBA players other than Lebron James are available to be drafted. Current injuries are not relevant. Pretend everyone is healthy. I personally wouldn't think so currently that recent shooting slumps or off nights matter. Who would you currently trust in a 7 game series in the 18-19 season with everything on the line? EDIT: Chris Paul is Chris Paul of recent, not '06-'10 Chris Paul.
Snake draft (sorry Pablo). Just going to random number generate the list of participants below. That randomized order will be the order for both drafts. That isn't fair, but it will save us a bunch of time and confusion. When you are on the clock, you will make two selections. Please indicate which pick is for the All-Time Draft and which is for the Current NBA Draft. Ideally, this thing will last 2-4 days, if that. We are talking 8 rounds, 16 picks total here. Let's try for 4 hour time limits. Please make your pick for both drafts in one post and tag the next person up.
All Time: John Stockton, Kobe Bryant, Clyde Drexler, David Robinson, Shaquille O'neal, James Worthy, Grant Hill, Russell Westbrook
1. John Stockton, Russell Westbrook 2. Kobe Bryant / Clyde Drexler / Grant Hill 3. Clyde Drexler / Grant Hill 4. David Robinson / James Worthy 5. Shaquille O'neal / David Robinson
Current: Kyrie Irving, Devin Booker, Kawhi Leonard, Al Horford, Joel Embiid, Donovan Mitchell, Jaylen Brown, Andre Drummond
1. Kyrie Irving / Devin Booker 2. Devin Booker / Donovan Mitchell 3. Kawhi Leonard / Jaylen Brown / Donovan Mitchell 4. Al Horford / Joel Embiid / Kawhi Leonard 5. Joel embiid / Andre Drummond / Al Horford
When we are done, I will set up an 8 team bracket for each draft that we will vote on. You should vote on match-ups based on which team you believe would win a 7 game series. You can use your own criteria to determine winners.
If you explain your vote using basketball logic (even if it is bad logic), your vote will count as double. This is to encourage debate and reward people that have actually put thought into their vote. However, even if someone's argument is vague and bad, I am going to count it as double as long as it is a basketball argument. I won't know where to draw the line otherwise. I have a feeling this rule will be off-putting, but as long as everyone briefly explains their vote, all opinions will be heard equally.
for current draft is it like right now or is it current players but in their primes?
also should we just draft the best players or is the idea to make the team that would be best?
1. Right now, but not so right now to consider a recent 5 game shooting slump. Who would you trust in this seasons finals kind of thing. 2. Make the team that would be best. I want people to consider match-ups + strengths and weaknesses when voting on the head to head match-ups in the brackets.
With those being answered, you are now on the clock.
