yeah, yeah, i know the dates aren't locked in yet (i'll add them along with other info as it's announced), figured i'd make this thread now since i already know i'm going back again.
I was going to say "Would this happen the year after a major headlining Lollapalooza set?" but then remembered that's literally what LCD Soundsystem did last year.

Haha that's the precedent I used to rationalize the idea. They're in the same "headliner but not HEADLINER" tier as LCD and other artists, and given P4K's love for them, I could see them playing if they aren't tied up in Europe.

I would like Thom Yorke or Bjork to headline as well. Maybe SZA or Tyler? I feel like sometimes they go fairly big like with LCD and Wilco and other times not so much like with Beach House, Sufjan, and FKA Twigs, but it's hard for me to gauge popularity and who Lollapalooza will get. Vampire Weekend with another headliner I want to see and a Pitchfork New Music undercard would get me back.
Undercard acts that I'd love to see there: The Internet Kamasi Washington SOPHIE Father John Misty Pusha T Iceage Soccer Mommy Car Seat Headrest CupcakKe Fever Ray King Krule Ibeyi Ariel Pink Slowdive (would they headline?) Perfume Genius Run The Jewels
Anyone from 2017 too, like Nico Jaar, Vince Staples, Priests.
Oh Jenny Hval would probably get me there too, regardless of the headliners.
In this year's survey they asked if you would be interested in attending a version of Pitchfork in one of five different settings, one of them being an "indoor winter event in Chicago", so I bet it's that. Screenshot spoilered below because apparently it's huge. Perhaps more interestingly, they also asked if you would be interested in a Pitchfork cruise, which I'll just straight up say I absolutely would be.

I'm probably missing something here, but I actually thought the Chicago date made her a bit less likely for this. Like I'm not saying it's impossible, but walk me through the logic of this making her look more likely

The Riviera is a pretty small venue (smaller too than the venue she played on the tour with Royksopp) and the presale went very fast today even though it was just announced, she got BNM'd this year by Pitchfork, she's played this festival before, and Pitchfork does book acts that played in Chicago earlier that year (Courtney Barnett being a notable example from this year). Given that her US & Euro tour ends in April, I wouldn't be surprised if she plays quite a few festivals over the summer. I think she'd make a great Pitchfork headliner, hell, she could reasonably play Lolla too in its monstrous 4 day format and still do tons of Euro fests over the summer.

Good explainer. I hope you're right! I'd be very into it
The schedule is already out by the way, and there are a lot of overlaps. Also You need to purchase a $50 base ticket and add-on more to get into some of the other events. Interesting.
