That would be interesting. I just kind of figured that anything KSG would demand headliner status. If they end up doing something with it I would bet there is some Kanye level stage production. A small 5 song set just seems kind of underwhelming when looking at the rollout of KSG.

I'm pretty sure he means a Cudi set with a KSG portion within it. KSG doesn't have enough material to headline as KSG so it would either be within a Kanye or Cudi set.
The worst thing about them booking Cudi would be trying to guess which weekend Kanye shows up though.

I’ll take any variation of Kanye though haha
I'd argue that something more minimal would be very much in line with the rollout of KSG
Kids See Ghosts would probably be similar as Dr Dre & Snoop. They bring KSG songs, do their own hits and bring out a ton of guests where they collabed with.
Frank was scheduled for quite a few fests. Not arguing talent here, but Gambino might just end up being the better festival grab even if only Coachella and ACL get him.
As for Gorillaz I’d say them moving their festival to LA pretty much means they aren’t doing Coachella.
Edit: I’d love Kanye tho
Gambino is also at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans and playing a number of European fests this summer, and coming off a U.S. tour this fall. The only way it's a better festival grab than a one-off (er, two-off) Frank Ocean show when the dude's played like a couple U.S. shows in the last five years is if he announces they'll be his last Gambino shows ever.

I meant more like it would be an advertised show instead of a maybe he shows up maybe he doesn’t thing. Billing KSG as a headliner would obviously mean they just go through their catalogue together, which is big enough to fill a set.
Billing Cudi and maybe getting a Kanye spot just seems underwhelming and kind of cheap if you’re Cudi.

It's possible Kanye nor Frank Ocean are touring around Coachella. If Gambino goes through with ending the project, Coachella could very well have his last shows until the inevitable reunion five years from now. I'm fine with him headlining, especially if his next album is good. Timberlake, though...whole lot of meh, but I'd still catch a bit of his set.

I suppose Gambino can just cancel some festival shows to make himself more exclusive. I’m goin to go off what Frank was booked for. What did he cancel? 2 US fests and 2/3 Euro fests?
Edit: 2 US Fests and 1 Euro Fest
also cancelled on me at FYF a few years back, which I’m still salty about. The Kanye bandaid worked for a while though

Launchpad confirmed, and I believe at least one unnamed source has confirmed.
I am not a rock fan, but I believe Coachella should somewhat stick to its rock roots and have 1 rock headliner or even a band that is a mix of genres such as Gorilaz
Ah yes, the rock roots of a festival whose first year was mostly electronic and hip-hop.

Am I the only one here excited for JT? Didn’t like his new album at all but I think he has some really great songs in his back catalogue and is a great performer. I am getting tired of headliners having absurd stage setups like LG and Bey but I at least think JT is better than LG and it at least adds some variety to my day

I’m pretty confident I’ll have a great time at JT. I’m excited because I won’t pay money to go sit in a nosebleed seat to see him.

Beck, RATM, Tool, Chem Bros, and Morrissey were main guys in 1999 right?

Not really for me, I bet I will catch a big edm/rap act during his set
It stinks for people like me - and most on this board - but there isn't really a legitimate reason why they "need" rock headliners anymore. Almost any major rock headliner would be a re-tread in some form. Take a look at the Lolla crowd shots of Post Malone or Uzi Vert vs. The National or Arctic Monkeys. The majority of people who would be amped by a major rock headliner have converted to niche/European fests. They've shown they can still book solid second line rock acts (St. V, FF, WoD, Byrne, APC) and undercard without a rock headliner.
They need to move 250,000 tickets, and so if that third headliner is going to be a Rihanna or Adele or Drake and the biggest "rock" show on the poster is like The 1975 subbing - well, I get it at least.

Rock just seems so forced to fit a headliner spot outside of legacy acts. It’s embarrassing right now. I’d rather wait for a solid booking than to force a band like Arctic Monkeys into headliner slot.

I agree with you on this. If its going to be rock, then it has to be one that is worthwhile. I dont think AM should headline Coachella, they should sub.
Bands like Metallica, Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac..
I think Gorilaz could headline but they aren't even rock, they're a mix of a bunch of genres

I completely agree with this. I’m pretty sure a lot of people would even be happy with Gorillaz in a rock slot if there weren’t any other available artists.

Seems like a lot of rock headlining
I guess you do have a point. Those Chem Bros sure can shred.
But honestly, anybody upset over the lack of rock headliners or their small crowds should be more upset about the fact that rock kinda sucks right now.
I’m cool with not having rock headliners so long as there is enough rock. I felt this year lacked a ton of rock acts and the few big ones they got didn’t quite scratch the rock itch the way I wanted it to (and David Byrne is much better seen at a theatre for his current tour). But there have been a ton of awesome and ambitious rock albums this year. I’ve really been digging the new Melody’s Echo Chamber album, especially the song Desert Horse which sounds like an Indian song remixed in the style of a lo fi Age of Adz. The Voidz also put out an incredible album and even more mainstream rock acts like MGMT and Jack White have been great. I’m hopeful that next years rock selection will be great
